The way to stay

The fortune teller did some calculations with his fingers and finally sighed.

“There is a solution, but it’s very difficult to implement. Twenty years ago, someone asked me about it, but he didn’t use it. Because this method truly goes against the will of Heaven…”

"What method?" Huo Beian was immediately excited when he heard that there was a way to keep his wife.

"The solution is this: on the night of the full moon when her soul is about to vanish, her beloved must offer their heart as a sacrifice to the moon goddess. One life for another, and then that person will remain."

"What? This..."

Huo Beian was stunned when he heard this. So, to keep his wife, he had to sacrifice himself?

He was a soldier who protected his country and was not afraid to sacrifice his life for it. Death meant nothing to him.

What he feared was that if he died, his wife would have a very difficult time raising the child alone in this era...

Seeing this, the fortune teller sighed, "This method is extremely unlucky. As the saying goes, fortune favors the bold. Who knows what the final outcome will be... Perhaps there's a sliver of hope that will move Heaven, and both of them will stay."

"What are the chances of them all staying?" Huo Beian asked nervously.

"One percent, it's hard to say, since no one has actually tested it."

Huo Beian clenched his fist and made a silent resolution. He would not give up as long as there was a glimmer of hope.

After leaving the fortune teller's place, Huo Beian bought a dagger, some fruit, and pastries.

In three days, it will be the night of the full moon.

He planned to sacrifice himself that night...

He planned to spend these three days with his wife.

Therefore, he specifically asked his workplace for three days off. He wanted to take his wife on a trip.

After returning home, he asked Li Yun to help look after the children for a few days.

Then, holding his wife's hand, he said, "Honey, we haven't had a honeymoon yet since we got married. I've heard that foreigners always have a honeymoon after marriage. We have three more days, shall we go on our honeymoon?"

"But the child?"

"My mom will look after the child, so you don't need to worry about it. We'll leave this afternoon."

Song Ning nodded.

So, Song Ning and Huo Beian boarded a green train bound for Hangzhou, their destination West Lake and Leifeng Pagoda. Hand in hand, they slowly boarded the train with the crowded flow of people.

The carriage was filled with an odor that was a mixture of sweat, smoke, and the smell of worn leather.

The train slowly started moving, and the scenery outside the window began to move backward. Huo Beian sat beside her, looking at her tenderly, his heart filled with love.

He took a boiled egg wrapped in newspaper from his canvas bag and handed it to Song Ning, saying, "Honey, are you hungry? Have an egg first."

Song Ning took the egg, gently peeled off the shell, and held half of the egg to Huo Beian's mouth, saying, "Honey, you eat some too."

The two of them took turns eating, drawing envious glances from those around them. Song Ning's face turned bright red to her ears.

The old man sitting next to Huo Beian struck up a conversation with him warmly: "Young man, where are you taking your wife? You two are so loving."

Huo Beian replied with a smile, "Grandpa, let's go to West Lake in Hangzhou for a few days."

Upon hearing this, the old man gave a thumbs up and said, "Great! West Lake is a wonderful place. As the saying goes, 'Above is heaven, below are Suzhou and Hangzhou.'"

In the afternoon, the sunlight streamed through the car window and warmed me.

Song Ning was a little sleepy. She leaned on Huo Beian's shoulder and gradually drifted off to sleep. Huo Beian didn't dare to move, afraid of waking her. He quietly looked at her sleeping face, his heart filled with pity and reluctance.

The thought of leaving his wife and children made him feel sad.

After an unknown amount of time, the train finally arrived at Hangzhou Station.

Huo Beian gently woke Song Ning, and the two packed their luggage and walked off the train hand in hand.

They took a crowded bus and bumped along the way to West Lake.

From afar, West Lake resembles a giant mirror, nestled among the mountains, its waters shimmering and sparkling with golden light under the sun.

"How beautiful!" Song Ning exclaimed as she looked at West Lake.

"The people are beautiful, the scenery is beautiful, it's a perfect ending," Huo Beian murmured.

Before they knew it, they had arrived at the Broken Bridge. The bridge was bustling with people.

After crossing the broken bridge, they rented a small boat and rowed towards the center of the lake. Huo Beian skillfully rowed the boat, while Song Ning sat at the bow, feeling a sense of peace and tranquility.

Looking at Leifeng Pagoda in the distance, for some reason, Song Ning thought of Bai Suzhen and Xu Xian.

This Leifeng Pagoda, just like the transmigration system, separated her from Huo Beian.

Thinking about this made her feel particularly sad.

...

They ate some local snacks together at West Lake, strolled around the streets in the evening, and kissed under the moonlight.

For this honeymoon, Huo Beian specially booked the best hotel in the area.

"Wife, I love you."

"Honey, me too."

The two kissed softly, and Huo Beian gently pressed her down beneath him. What followed was a natural progression...

They would travel during the day and then spend their evenings in the hotel, indulging in all the things they loved, trying to imbue their longing for each other into their very being.

Song Ning knew that if she didn't leave after dawn, she would disappear.

But she wanted to stay with her beloved until the very last moment...

She suppressed her grief and poured out her longing and love for him through her body language, expressing it all to him.

That night, the moon was very round.

Huo Beian sat on the bed in the guesthouse, looking at Song Ning on the bed.

At this moment, Song Ning was already asleep.
