What we talk about when we talk about writing

I often feel that I am lucky.

As early as junior high school, the teacher assigned us to write an essay titled "My Ideal". What I wrote at that time was that I wanted to become an online writer.

At that time, every Friday after school, I would take out the five dollars saved from my breakfast money and go to the newsstand to buy a copy of Zhiyin Manke.

Zhiyin Manke launched a magazine called "Xiaoshuohui", which was sold in the first and second half of each month at a price of ten yuan. The Dragon Tribe, which later became famous, was serialized in it.

At that time, online literature was just emerging, and physical publishing was popular. Best-selling online literature could always be found in the "Online Literature" section of Xinhua Bookstore. It was in Xinhua Bookstore that I read many masterpieces that are still popular today, and the one that impressed me the most was "The Law of the Devil".

Well... this western fantasy work has a bad ending, and the spiritual sequel also has a bad ending...

Later, Dragon Clan became popular all over the country. Every time the third part of Dragon Clan was released, I would rush to the newsstand as soon as possible. I still remember the shock that the ending of Dragon Clan brought to me. The direct emotional impact made me feel lost.

Otherwise, should I try it too?

In addition to online literature, I also read a lot of classic translations of Yilin in Xinhua Bookstore at that time, such as Madame Bovary, Wuthering Heights, Greek mythology, biblical mythology... I began to fantasize about what I would write when I became an online writer.

My original idea was to write a story about traveling to the world of Western mythology.

I carved the names of the twelve main gods in Greek mythology on my desk. The names of Hephaestus, the god of fire, Aphrodite, the goddess of love, and Dionysus, the god of wine, were the longest and most difficult to remember. After I finally memorized them, nothing happened. After all, these things are useless in either life or study.

So what is useful?

There is a saying in "Zhuangzi" about the uselessness of use. If a big tree grows into a shape suitable for being used as wood, then it will inevitably be cut down. But if it grows into a useless elm lump, then it can survive safely... Oh yes, this story is also read from Yilin.

What I want to say is, don’t worry about whether this tree is useful or not, just say whether it is a tree.

It's a tree, OK, then this is its value, its meaning.

The same goes for writing.

A young man in his twenties who is unemployed often imagines himself as a writer.

This is because at this time everyone is thinking about what the meaning of life is. Once you ask questions, you will get answers. Whether they are right or wrong, when you put them into writing, you will start writing.

Editors often say that the most important thing in writing is expression.

As long as you figure out the theme you want to express, a book will rush toward that theme.

I started uploading my works on Qidian. I wanted to express my love for Pokémon and the emotions between people and Pokémon. I did it. The Pokémon fan fiction I wrote is still occasionally mentioned by people, which is a great thing for a work that has been completed for many years.

Later, I started to transform myself, and I felt a lot of pain while exploring the path of transformation, because I couldn’t find what I wanted to express, what I was willing to burn with passion for, and even in my dreams I was thinking about how to make it more exciting.

I am very frugal with money because I never leave my house all year round. Sitting at home with black eyes staring at the glowing screen is probably the norm for me and many of my colleagues.

In the past few years since graduation, I have been working full-time, never entered society, never tasted the ups and downs of love, never had a heart-to-heart talk with my parents... I have been searching for what I want to express.

My inspiration, my passion, my muse.

I think I found it.

The phrase is, go to the pier and get some fries.

Even if the sky falls, it's not as important as going to the dock to get some fries.

As long as things are not over, there will always be a turning point... Even if you fall to the bottom, you can see different scenery. The longing when the salted fish looks up at the sky must be more exciting than standing on the top of a high and cold mountain and looking down.

To be honest with you, before I started writing this book, my idea was to write a story similar to Berserk, where one has to chop and chop with the dragon slayer even when faced with despair, just like Sisyphus who keeps pushing the stone forward in torture.

This involves elements of combat, mythology, and religion.

It runs counter to the food, farming and lord elements at the beginning.

The reason was that a few days before the book was to be published, I began to feel fear.

I was afraid of failure and that I lacked the ability to express myself, so I temporarily changed the themes of my previous book to food and beast taming, and stitched "Maze Rice" into the shell of a lord's farming.

The start was ideal, with results improving steadily, reaching an average of 5,000 and still rising.

It was probably at the end of the first volume when the apostles appeared that my accumulated knowledge and creative ideas for the opening chapter were exhausted, and I took out the story I had prepared at the beginning. Then everyone will see that the tone of the book has changed a lot, and the decline in follow-up reading also occurred at that time.

This is my fault as an author, a mistake made due to an imperfect framework and a momentary trick, I regret it. (ω) (The bigger reason is that I am too new... if I am new, I should practice more.) In fact, if I continue to write according to the routine of taming beasts, food, and daily life, I will definitely be better at it, and the results will be better than now...

Please...collect 6...9...books...!

But now that things have come to this, I can only learn from my experience and bring you more exciting stories in the next few volumes. ε-(`;) My editor suggested that you can't completely abandon the elements of the opening. If you can't give up your own expression, then adjust the framework in the next volume and try to combine them.

Although it is difficult, if you give it a try, you will always gain something.

Me: "Thank you, I just happened to start a new paper, so I'll take this opportunity to summarize the remarks at the end of the paper, and then take a day off!"

Edit: "@#¥@¥&%!"

The main content of the next volume is the Knight Conference of the Roland Kingdom, as well as the advancement of the Demon God and Hell Line.

The Kingdom of Roland is based on France, and I will try to combine dueling and culinary culture.

The title of the volume is "The Ring of the Nibelung", which corresponds to the main clue of the next volume.

Back to the topic at the beginning, when we talk about writing, we are actually talking about what a person wants to express.

The world view, character setting, plot... everything serves the theme. I want exciting battles, I want sweet love, I want to live my life again and take everything back, these are all expressions.

But what is the meaning of expression?

Writing is like a marathon. You can’t see the finish line at all. Leading the race and receiving applause are the minority, while having no cheers or audience is the norm.

But as the old saying goes, as long as you keep running, you will always see different scenery.

I hope all my readers can make rapid progress in their lives, soar all the way, and reap happiness!

I'll take a day off to sort out the outline and I'll start serializing tomorrow! (No charge for single chapter comments, just take a quick look, thank you!) (End of this chapter)
