I'll definitely earn enough tomorrow!
—5 a.m. the next morning, a female dormitory at Beijing Normal University.
Six alarm clocks rang simultaneously at 5 o'clock sharp.
"It's 5 o'clock, time to get up, or we won't get to eat scallion pancakes." Dormitory head Teng Manni, who had just woken up, mumbled this sentence, turned her head, and closed her eyes again.
The alarm clock kept ringing, but no one got up to turn it off.
Are you still going or not?
"I don't think anyone will go that early, maybe I should sleep a little longer."
“I think so too. The back street isn’t far. We should be able to make it over there after we get up. Boss Shi is going to be open until 10 o’clock, and we don’t have any classes in the morning anyway.”
"I agree." My roommate Xiaoxin weakly raised her hand, then let it fall limply down again. She was too sleepy and could only hold it for a second.
"Okay, let me sleep for another half hour."
The group turned off their alarms and prepared to go to sleep.
Suddenly, a figure ran past the window at lightning speed, followed by one, two, three, one after another, running down the corridor.
It was accompanied by a faint sound.
You could tell they were trying their best to keep quiet, but Teng Manni, whose bed was by the window, still heard it.
"I heard there are already quite a few people in line!"
"What's going on? Is it someone from outside the school?"
"Yeah, those working-class people are crazy. They came early this morning to line up. They're not planning to give us students a chance to eat!"
"Someone just took a picture. Look at the queue. If you go later, you might not be able to get any food."
Upon hearing these words, Teng Manni instantly sobered up.
She sat up abruptly, and after a few seconds, her consciousness finally returned. As she got out of bed, she said, "Get up, get up! If we don't go now, we really won't be able to eat it."
"Didn't you say you wanted to sleep for another half hour?" My roommate in the next bed turned over, his voice trembling with sleepiness.
"There's still half an hour left. I just heard them say that there are already quite a few people lining up in the back street. They're all from outside the school, trying to steal our scallion pancakes!"
"You guys should eat quickly, or you might not be able to get any if you wait any longer."
She quickly changed her clothes, put on her shoes, and then rushed to brush her teeth and wash her face.
"What? People from outside the school are here too? No way?"
"What should I do? I want to eat, but I'm so sleepy. I feel like I can't get up. I can't even open my eyes."
While brushing her teeth, Teng Manni mumbled, "If I don't eat it today, I probably won't have another chance. We have class tomorrow morning, and I don't know when Boss Shi will stop selling hand-pulled pancakes. Anyway, I'm going to eat it. You guys decide for yourselves."
Upon hearing this, the roommates sat up.
The group looked at each other, unsure whether to go or not.
Turning her head, she saw that Teng Manni had already packed everything and was ready to leave.
"Director, you're moving way too fast!"
"No, I'm going. Wait for me, I'll just change my clothes."
"If you go there, I'll go too."
"Go ahead, or you won't get any. Just make sure there aren't too many people."
The group hurriedly got up and dressed, their sleepiness quickly vanished.
After going downstairs, I scanned a shared QR code.
Until the doorway.
"My God, is this really not 6 PM but 6 AM?" Even at 6 PM, there shouldn't be this many people.
This line is really long.
Now, I don't even know how long the queue will take to get a table.
"What are you all standing there for? Hurry up and line up!" Dorm leader Teng Manni called out to the people who had stopped behind her.
He then quickly went to join the queue.
Thank goodness I got up just now, otherwise I really wouldn't have been able to eat. (This chapter has been read. Please click to continue reading the next chapter!)
