By 3 a.m., the "roll kings" had begun to arrive at the morning market.
This kind of lively atmosphere in the middle of the night, even when the market is empty, is something the people of Baihe have never experienced before.
If it weren't for the eerie timing, many people would probably have come to watch.
As the queues for tourists grew increasingly outrageous, vendors began working increasingly irregular hours to prevent early arrivals from being met with an empty market.
The morning market used to only get lively around 5 or 6 a.m.
It's already bustling with noise at 3 o'clock.
The first group of tourists who arrived at the morning market were stunned by the heating tents that had appeared overnight.
Holy crap!
"Baihe is so considerate! It snowed just yesterday, and the greenhouse is already set up today?"
"Oh my god, what is this again?"
Before long, the greenhouse was no longer a novelty, and everyone noticed the new food number machine that had been moved to Mr. Lin's stall.
It's possible that the people at Baihe Cultural Tourism also knew that these tourists were all eager to eat the food cooked by Boss Lin.
It started at 5 o'clock, then 4 o'clock, and then 3 o'clock.
To ensure a pleasant visitor experience, staff were assigned to be on duty after the heated tents were installed.
When the first visitor arrived, the staff on duty dutifully explained the purpose of going to the greenhouse and how to use the ticket machine.
"It's been snowing a lot in Baihe lately, and the temperature is cold. With the number-dispensing machine, people don't have to stay outside queuing all the time. They can wait in the warm shed until Mr. Lin sets up his stall and wait for their number to be called."
Upon hearing that there was such a wonderful thing, the tourists all looked at the staff member on duty like well-behaved children, waiting to hear his explanation.
The entire staff on duty gave the impression of giving a lecture.
"The ticket machine works by scanning your face. Each person gets one number. After Mr. Lin sets up his stall, you can line up according to your number. This way, you don't have to wait outside. After you get your number, go to the heated shed to wait. There's heavy snow today, so please keep warm. There's a water dispenser in the corner of the shed; you can get hot water yourself!"
This thoughtfulness truly touched these tourists from other places.
Even the longtime diners from Jiangdong felt ashamed when they saw the people of Baihe reveal Boss Lin's location without reservation.
When they discovered Boss Lin, they were all thinking about how to keep it a secret from everyone, afraid that if too many people found out, they wouldn't be able to eat anymore.
I never expected that by promoting it to Baihe, we could attract tourists and improve the facilities at Mr. Lin's stall location.
Look at the folding tables and chairs added by the roadside, the heated tents set up right after the snow, and even the number-taking machine—they've thought of everything! You have to admire them!
After taking their numbers, a group of diners happily stayed in the heated tent.
Waiting like this is definitely much better than queuing in the cold wind the other day.
Then Xiaoyu looked at the group of foreigners walking towards them from a distance and asked curiously, "But if we line up like this, what about the foreigners?"
She and Xu Xiaoshuai arrived early, got their numbers, and spent half a day in the greenhouse.
The greenhouse was large, and diners gathered in small groups to chat and pass the time by playing on their phones.
"It's just facial recognition, not ID card. You should be able to get a number the same way."
Xiao Shuai understood what Xiao Yu meant, glanced at the number plate in his hand, and replied.
"That makes sense."
Following Xiaoyu's words, Xiaoshuai looked outside and saw Shangguan Xi and his group.
Compared to the previous few, this time they came in a large group of ten.
"See? You're right to listen to me. If you come early, you won't have to queue at all. Even if you come at dawn, you might not be able to get a table."
Shangguan Xi and his group were studying abroad. Even though they paid attention to Boss Lin's news, it would still take them a day to arrive in Baihe after arranging their work and seeing that Boss Lin was still setting up a stall at the Baihe morning market.
Without even taking a break after getting off the plane, I put my luggage in the hotel and rushed to the morning market.
"Boss Lin sets up his stall at five o'clock. We've arrived so early, and look, there's not even a queue in front of this stall. We might be able to get some vermicelli soup today!"
Shangguan Xi was overjoyed to see the empty street in front of him.
It's better for him to come up with a solution than to rely on his teammates. He can't just stand on the other side of the river and watch, like last time, and almost be mistaken for a spy.
The others, seeing that there was no need to queue, also gave him a thumbs up.
Then the group walked to where Lin Zhou had set up his stall and saw a staff member on duty next to a machine.
Um?
What kind of machine is this? It wasn't here last week.
"Hello, are you waiting in line for Mr. Lin to set up his stall?"
The staff on duty looked at the group, half of whom looked foreign, and first tentatively asked them a question in Mandarin.
Upon hearing this, Shangguan Xi nodded.
"Please take a number here and wait in line. There's a heated shed across the street. After you get your number, just wait in line and wait for Mr. Lin to call your number when he sets up his stall."
Upon hearing this, Shangguan Xi let out a confused "Huh?"
Aren't they number one?
Shangguan Xi looked back, bewildered, following the gesture of the staff member on duty.
Then I saw a huge heated shed, where a lot of people had gathered.
The other men and women who didn't understand also looked back in confusion, following his movements.
"So everyone there has already taken a number and is queuing up, right?"
As Shangguan Xi spoke, he felt a dryness in his throat.
This is a huge slap in the face!
He was just gloating that he arrived early and there was no queue, but in the blink of an eye he realized that he couldn't keep up with the pace of technological advancement in China.
There wasn't this ticket dispenser or heated shed before.
In just a few days, the whole street felt completely different.
