Spicy strips and candied hawthorn?
Is it edible?
"Sorry, no."
The shop assistant maintained a polite smile and continued to ask, "Which one would you like, sir?"
"Then you can't do it. You don't even have spicy strips or candied hawthorns. These are the most popular flavors."
The chubby boy's mother quickly covered his mouth to stop him from saying anything more.
He then smiled apologetically at the shop assistant.
"Just send a whole bunch of each kind."
The chubby boy's mother was afraid he would say something shocking again, so she just wanted to finish shopping and leave quickly.
After paying, they dragged the chubby boy away.
The shop assistant was left looking puzzled.

Back in the car, the mother and son looked at the candied hawthorns with great anticipation.
They then each picked up a string of candied hawthorns that interested them and started eating.
Mom ate a bunch of strawberries; the bright red strawberries looked very tempting.
But after taking one bite, a strange expression appeared on Mom's face.
How come the same candied hawthorns taste so different?
The chubby boy also spat out the hawthorn in his mouth with a contorted expression.
"It's so sour!"
The pure hawthorn fruit skewers didn't have a soft, powdery texture at all; instead, they were quite hard. And to make matters worse, they were incredibly sour—so sour they made your teeth ache.
"This doesn't taste good either."
The difference between good and bad fruit is quite obvious.
For example, this strawberry doesn't taste fresh. It's a bit soft and mushy, like it's been squeezed. The fruity aroma isn't strong, and there's no natural sweetness from the strawberry itself. It all comes down to the sugar coating on the outside.
The taste is just so-so.
It's nowhere near as good as what you buy at the school gate.
