Chapter 35: Blind date and marriage?
The first round of the Champions League group stage ended with Shakhtar Donetsk losing 0-1 to AC Milan, and Leah also followed the game online.
In September, the Champions League overlapped with the new Serie A season. She had just been assigned to public order management. According to her jurisdiction, she only had to work during AC Milan and Inter Milan's home games, which was a special paid leave granted by her superiors. Others weren't so lucky. Besides public order management, they also had to do routine street patrols and crime prevention. So, on days without matches or strikes, Leah stayed out of the office, fearing she'd stand out and get scolded.
During the days when Kaka was not at home, in order to avoid Bosco and Enzo, Leah used the excuse that Rita was heartbroken and hid in Rita's newly opened dance hall day and night and refused to show up.
The same is true today.
Knowing that Kaka was flying back to Milan with the team today, Leah originally wanted to go home early to order dinner for him. However, as soon as she stepped out of the ballroom door, Bosco called her.
As soon as Leah saw the call notification, she knew something was wrong, so she quickly hung up the phone and slipped back, even though he called four or five times without answering.
Bosco called to ask Leah to go to Milanello with him to pick up Kaka. At that time, there must be many reporters gathered at the gate of the base waiting for interviews, which would be a good opportunity for them to take pictures of the happy and harmonious scenes in their home. However, Leah didn't answer the phone at all.
He glared at Enzo who was sitting on the sofa with his legs crossed watching TV, and drove to Milanello to wait for his son, leaving Enzo confused and wondering if his skills had improved to this extent. He could make people angry even without saying a word.
The club chartered a flight for this match, so they only knew the arrival time roughly. Kaka sent the landing time to his father and Leah, and explained that he would go home with his teammates in the evening.
Leah also set the alarm early to remind herself not to forget to get back before Kaka.
In the end I still forgot.
When the alarm rang for the first time, Leah was being dragged by Rita to the bar to learn how to make cocktails.
The dance hall was not open to the public tonight, and most of the people inside were their friends. A pile of mobile phones were thrown on the booths, but no one looked at them. Leah's silver phone was among them, vibrating wildly, but was drowned out by the deafening music and gradually calmed down.
She drank five or six failed drinks in a row, her eyes following the bartender's gorgeous moves in the air, her head already dizzy and confused.
By the time she remembered Kaka was going home tonight, it was already late. Leah quickly ran over to check her phone. Her heart finally died when she saw Kaka had called four or five times in a row, the last one an hour ago, followed by a message:
[Kaka: Did you go out to play? I got home safely.]
Without questioning why his girlfriend, who had agreed to wait for him at home, disappeared, Kaka considerately reported that she was safe and did not send any more messages.
Leah felt something was amiss, but she'd drunk so quickly and so hard that she wasn't fully conscious. She said something to the equally drunk Rita, grabbed her coat, and called the driver who'd been waiting for her to take her home. Luckily, the traffic was light at night, so the driver whizzed around and hit the accelerator and arrived home. Leah gave him a tip and asked him to park in a spot on the roadside. Then she hurriedly pushed the door open and entered.
When she entered the living room, the house was pitch black and she couldn't see anything. Leah turned on the light on the wall and found that Kaka was not there. There was only a glass of water and pills on the table. There was also a note under the glass with Kaka's handwriting on it - hangover medicine, remember to take it.
Liya felt a little guilty and gulped down the pills along with some water. Luna woke up at some point and started rubbing against Liya, she squatted down and rubbed her twice, whispering:
"Is Papa back? Is he angry?"
She couldn't tell if she truly understood, or if it was just a guilty guess, but Luna wagged her tail, slapped her calf a few times, and turned to walk away. When she reached the stairs, she even glanced back at her, as if signaling her to follow. Leah followed her all the way to the bedroom. Just as she was hesitating about how to explain, Luna suddenly leaped up, using her own weight to push the doorknob open. The door swung open with a bang, completely different from the cautious, whispering, and tiptoeing scene Leah had imagined.
As Leia looked stunned, Luna glanced at her with her tail raised and walked away, leaving her in a disheveled state at the door.
It seems like it was my illusion. Why did I feel like Luna just showed an expression of contempt?
Leah stuck her head out of the door and looked inside quietly.
The bedroom was as dark as the living room. Even the bedside lamp that was usually turned off before going to bed was off. Through the gap in the curtains, Leah noticed that the side of the bed where Kaka slept was bulging, and guessed that he must be asleep.
She finally breathed a sigh of relief, kicked off her slippers at the door in the dim moonlight, and tiptoed to the bathroom to wash up.
Just as her whole body was immersed in the darkness, a voice suddenly came from not far away, which scared her so much that she stopped suddenly, and the slippers in her hand fell to the ground with a snap.
"I'm back."
It's Kaka.
He turned over and sat on the bedside, turning on the bedside lamp. Only then could he see Leah clearly. She was wearing a black sequined miniskirt that he had never seen before, and her lips were painted with shiny lip gloss. As she approached, Kaka could smell the pungent smell of alcohol and cigarettes.
Seeing him frown, Leah followed his gaze and sniffed her own scent, then said guiltily, "It's not me, it's Lita."
She stretched out three fingers and gestured: "I only drank four cups." "Yeah, four cups." Kaka pressed her fingers and nodded perfunctorily, coaxing her to change clothes, go to the bathroom to wash up, and then come out to sleep.
While Leah was showering, Kaka picked up the skirt from the floor and tossed it into the laundry basket, waiting to wash them together tomorrow. A moment later, he heard the running of water in the bathroom stop and the door click open. He was about to turn around to talk to Leah when a warm body suddenly pressed against him. A white arm slowly extended along the waistline, folding over his abdomen. Then, Leah's warm, soft cheek rubbed against his.
"I missed you so much." Leah rubbed him, her hands rubbing restlessly, "Let me feel if you had a good meal in Ukraine."
Kaka suppressed his laughter, took her troublesome hand away, put it to his lips and kissed it: "Did you find it out?"
Leia came around from behind, and although her hands were restrained, she was still able to glance down.
She pretended to think for three seconds, then said decisively, "I've lost weight. I even have a waist."
Her serious expression didn't last more than two seconds, as Kaka's hand on her waist instantly broke it. With her weakness being grasped, Leah could only raise her hands in surrender: "I give up, I've lost weight."
Kaka carried her to the bed, opened the quilt and wrapped them around them. He didn't relax until they were close together with his arms around Leah's waist. After listening to Leah's words, he touched her belly, stretched out his hands to measure it, and nodded in agreement:
"You've indeed lost a lot of weight. It seems you missed me too much."
Leah was amazed by his brazen boasting. After a nice hot bath, her head cleared and her consciousness returned. She listened attentively to Kaka's talk, which ranged from the weather to the competition, from Ukrainian cuisine to souvenirs. When he mentioned these things, Kaka even wanted to get up and open her suitcase.
"I bought a set of fridge magnets from Ukraine. They're so cute."
Leah quickly stopped the man and pressed her whole body on him, preventing him from moving: "It's already late, let's see tomorrow."
"Is it late?" Kaka pretended to be stupid, blinking his big caramel eyes, and said, "I thought it was just after nine o'clock."
Ten o'clock is the curfew agreed upon by Kaka and Leah. Although they have been going in and out together since they started living together, and they mostly stay at home at night watching TV or reading, occasionally when one of them goes to a party, they will rush home before ten o'clock.
Well, it was indeed my fault.
Leah leaned against his bare chest, playing with his slender fingers, and muttered, "I'm sorry, I was out playing and forgot you were back."
Her elbows were also supported on Kaka's body. While speaking, she did not forget to secretly exert force and let her elbows lightly press his chest muscles.
At first, he was so serious that he hoped to be forgiven, but then he started to act weird again. Kaka couldn't help but curl his lips, pretending to push his glasses up, and said seriously, "Please pay attention to the impact."
After hearing this, Leah immediately quit.
She turned over and sat on Kaka's waist, looking down at him condescendingly: "What are you thinking about? Is anyone watching? Do I need permission to touch my boyfriend?"
Kaka obediently let his glasses be taken away. He closed his eyes, adjusting to the blurriness of his vision, and even agreed, "You have to get your boyfriend's permission."
They were both sitting by the bed. While talking, he did not forget to hold Leah's waist to keep her sitting firmly, for fear that she would fall off the bed without checking and even get angry.
"Oh?" Leah leaned over and got close to him so that her short-sighted boyfriend could see her clearly. "So, boyfriend, do you agree?"
The hair that fell from Leah's throat scratched it, causing a tingling sensation. Kaka couldn't help but let his Adam's apple roll up and down.
"I agree."
Leah then contentedly pinched and kneaded him, trying to make up for the unhappiness of not seeing her boyfriend these past few days. She lay quietly on Kaka's body, his heart next to her ear, and she could feel the rapid beats turning into steady, powerful thumps. Leah quietly felt it, and she was about to fall asleep in a daze.
Kaka wanted to talk to her some more. He had fallen asleep on the plane and again that night while waiting for her, so he was now fully conscious. He deliberately pinched Leah's waist, lifted her up, and made small movements that disturbed her sleep. She was so angry that she slapped his arms twice, and Kaka finally held her in his arms and didn't move.
"Don't sleep, let's talk."
He did it on purpose, being petty and not letting Leah sleep.
It's impossible for her to have fun outside and go to bed as soon as she gets home.
"Okay, babe?"
Kaka called her in a low voice, and continued to call when there was no response. He didn't laugh until he woke her up completely.
Leia stared at the ceiling with her eyes wide open, looking hopeless, ignoring the beautiful scenery below her.
I really want to sleep!
"Dad came to pick me up today. He said he called you but no one answered."
Telephone?
Leah's chaotic mind tried to recall for a moment: "Oh, I remember now."
She sat up suddenly, almost shaking Kaka's waist, and complained, "I was going to buy pizza and go home to wait for you, but the phone rang just as I walked out of Rita's ballroom. You have no idea how annoying he and Enzo have been lately. In just three days, they called me dozens of times. From what time I go to bed to what time I get up, from my unhealthy diet to my old-fashioned lifestyle. And Luna, yesterday they insisted on taking Luna out to play, and when I went to pick her up, I found them on both sides, one holding a can of food and the other holding cat litter, calling her over in unison. I almost made the child dizzy!"
Kaka's heart softened when he saw her angry look, and his eyes subconsciously fell on her lips, which were still red even without makeup. He didn't hear his answer for a long time after Leah finished speaking. He thought he was going to protect both of them, and was about to raise his hand to hit him, then he came to his senses.
He quickly lowered his raised hand and placed it against his chest, then he felt himself being pinched twice.
I feel like my girlfriend is harassing me...
Kaka: "Really? I saw Enzo at my dad's house today. It seems like they have a pretty good relationship."
Leah frowned: "They have a good relationship? You didn't recognize the wrong person."
Kaka: "I've seen Enzo in the photo album at home. Although... although he's a little darker, his facial features haven't changed."
Leah mercilessly complained about her brother: "He's not just a little darker, he can almost blend into an African tribe. When he gets there, people will think he's a local."
Kaka was amused by her words, and the two of them laughed together for a long time at Enzo's rough appearance. He then stroked Leah's wrist and asked tentatively, "Did Dad come to you and say anything strange recently?"
"Strange words? Oh, you mean the blind date?" Leah recalled, her tone completely nonchalant. "I know. He was hiding in the garden this morning and making a phone call. I happened to be sending Luna off to Mrs. Smith's and overheard it."
That morning, Leah packed her things to send Luna out for a playdate and make her own escape. To avoid being caught in traffic, she left at dawn. On her return, she spotted Bosco exercising in the garden. Perhaps due to limited visibility, Bosco hadn't seen her, and she didn't bother to greet him. As she was about to slip away, she heard Bosco, clutching his phone, whisper something like "blind date," "São Paulo," and "Kaka." It didn't take her long to figure out what he was about to do.
Leah didn't care and was thinking of waiting for Kaka to come back in the evening to complain to him. However, she was so drunk that she not only forgot to tell him, but also let Bosco take the lead.
Kaka opened his mouth to explain, but was suddenly covered by Leah. He blinked in confusion, but Leah covered his eyes with her hands again.
"Don't say anything. Just listen to me. If you agree, just blink."
Feeling the slight trembling itch in her palm, Leah withdrew her hand and instead supported it on both sides of Kaka's head. She leaned over and stared at him seriously and said, "Do you want to go on a blind date? If you do, close your eyes. If not, open your eyes."
As soon as he finished speaking, Kaka opened his eyes wide instantly, regardless of the fact that he couldn't see clearly without glasses. He just wanted to open his eyes wide to prevent Leah from deliberately ignoring him.
Leah kept looking at him until his eyes turned slightly red, covered with a layer of mist, and tears were about to fall before she let go: "I know."
Without waiting for Kaka to rest his eyes, she continued, "If Dad says that if you don't go on a blind date, he won't want you anymore, will you go?"
As she spoke, her hands gently stroked Kaka's ears, cheeks, and shoulders, and finally locked her hands around his neck, pretending to strangle him if she didn't get a satisfactory answer.
Bright moonlight streamed in through the unclosed curtains, illuminating Leah's face. Her lips curled slightly as she sat on Kaka's body, lowering her head. Her eyes swept across his face inch by inch, as if she were inspecting her territory.
Kaka didn't know whether he was confused or thinking seriously. He didn't answer for a long time after Leia finished speaking.
Leah narrowed her eyes dangerously. She applied a little pressure with both hands, her thumbs deliberately rubbing against his Adam's apple. "What if I tell you tomorrow that I'll marry you if you tell your father to go back to Brazil?"
Seeing Kaka was about to speak, she immediately covered her mouth and said, "Think about it carefully before answering. I don't want to get married and live with my parents and see them every day."
Kaka blinked and motioned her to let go.
As Leah just pulled away a little, Kaka took advantage of the situation and grabbed her wrist, pressing her down. His big caramel-colored eyes were unusually bright and sharp. He stared at Leah closely and asked softly, "Are you serious?"
"Hmm..." Leah pretended to hesitate, "I regret it?"
Kaka lowered his head and blocked her mouth, their lips and teeth intertwined for a long time before letting go.
He leaned his forehead against hers, his words full of an irresistible tone: "I'm serious. I'll tell Dad tomorrow."
Seeing that he didn't mention marriage, Leah wondered, "What if I regret it?"
Kaka's eyes instantly became wet, his lips slightly pursed, and he looked very lost: "It's okay, it's my dad who did the wrong thing first, it's normal for you to regret it."
His behavior made Leah feel guilty. Kaka had a good relationship with his family, and he was also soft-hearted, so she couldn't keep forcing him.
She raised her hand and put her arm around Kaka's neck, saying earnestly, "No matter what happens, I won't regret it. Even if your father still doesn't want to return to Brazil after I've said this, I won't regret it."
Kaka blinked and asked uncertainly: "Really?"
Leah promised, "Never!"
Her decisive words made Kaka stunned. He looked at her deeply, said nothing more, hugged Leia and turned over to sleep.
The next morning, Bosco and Enzo arrived home one after another. Leah and Kaka were having breakfast. Seeing them, Kaka went to the kitchen to fry two more bacon for them. No one knew what had happened since their meeting yesterday, but Enzo followed Kaka into the kitchen.
Leah swallowed the fried egg and saw Bosco approaching cautiously. She was about to glare at him, but suddenly remembered what she said to Kaka last night. Her expression changed again and she asked in a gentle voice, "What?"
Seeing that his son and the dead child were gone, Bosco took another look at Leah's face before leaning over and whispering, "Ricky told you everything last night, didn't he?"
Leah nodded.
Bosco seemed to breathe a sigh of relief and returned to his usual self. He leaned back in his chair and said, "That's fine. I saw you after I called you yesterday, but you ran away before I could call you. It's good that Ricky told you. I've already told the people over there that he already has a stable girlfriend and is about to get engaged and married. He's not considering blind dates." As he spoke, he glanced at Leah and said, "I'm not saying I'm forcing you two to get married quickly. Ricky is playing for AC Milan now. Having a local girlfriend will increase his favorability and loyalty among the fans and the club. Anyway..."
Before he finished speaking, he paused, looking at Leah's face which was gradually getting darker, puzzled: "What's wrong with you? Are you not feeling well?"
Leah clenched her fists and asked through gritted teeth, "Did you tell Kaka that you rejected the blind date in Sao Paulo?"
Bosco touched the empty top of his head: "Ah, yes, didn't he tell you?"
"Say it!"
Every word she spoke seemed to come out of her mouth, leaving Bosco bewildered. But he didn't think much of it. He patted her shoulder and said, "Ricky told me yesterday that you were planning to get engaged in December. I think Milan would be great. I'll bring your mother and brother over so we can all meet and have a meal together to liven things up."
"OK!"
Bosco was a little scared by Leah's behavior. He quickly put his hands behind his back and walked towards the kitchen as if nothing had happened, muttering to himself, "I'll go see if the meal is ready."
“Kaka!”
Just as he reached the kitchen door, he heard a sudden roar behind him, which frightened him so much that he shuddered violently. His years of marriage experience told him that he should not stay for long this time. He didn't even eat and slipped away before anyone could react.
"ah?"
Kaka poked his head out of the kitchen, spatula in hand, and blinked.
"What's the matter, dear?"
