Chapter 136 Sitting on a Bench

This time, Shen Wan wanted to die together with Xie Jingyan. She pushed Xie Jingyan away, got off the desk, and ran away with a red face.

The Eighth Prince ran even faster, fearing he would be beaten to death by some lord.

Xie Jingyan was pushed into a chair by Shen Wan, feeling utterly bewildered. He just wanted to spend some time with his princess, but his eighth brother kept interrupting him. He didn't even knock before entering the study. For the next six months, he wouldn't be allowed to set foot in his Lingwang Mansion again.

Shen Wan ran back to her room with a flushed face, cursing Xie Jingyan to death in her heart. Was she going to get her earring back? She clearly gave it to someone to bully!

Losing face in front of the Eighth Prince once wasn't enough for Shen Wan; she had to lose it a second time. She felt like disappearing into the ground.

Shen Wan was in a bad mood all afternoon. When Xie Jingyan returned to the room for dinner in the evening, he was met with a glare from Shen Wan as soon as he entered. However, the glare did not hurt him at all; in fact, it made him feel particularly happy. His handsome face was adorned with a smile, and he looked so pleased that Shen Wan was furious. She had lost all face, yet he could still laugh.

During the meal, Shen Wan glared at Xie Jingyan countless times. Xie Jingyan was in a good mood and had an even better appetite. He ate with relish and ate half a bowl more rice than usual.

After finishing her meal, Shen Wan put down her chopsticks and took her maid to stroll in the garden. She didn't return until it was almost dark, took a bath, and then went to bed.

When Xie Jingyan returned after his bath, he saw Shen Wan wrapped up like a silkworm cocoon. Xie Jingyan wasn't angry; he simply lay down and closed his eyes.

His breathing was even, and Shen Wan thought he was asleep. The weather was getting warmer and the nights weren't so cool anymore. The blankets were a bit thick, so Shen Wan kicked the blankets off a bit, then stretched out an arm and gently pulled him into her arms.

Shen Wan exclaimed in surprise, "Weren't you asleep?"

"If only I could fall asleep this easily," Xie Jingyan said with a mournful look in his eyes.

Ever since he married her, he has never fallen asleep before her.

Being held too tightly made Shen Wan uncomfortable. She shifted a couple of times, and Xie Jingyan said with annoyance, "Do you have to torture me like this?"

Who was tormenting him? Feeling something hard against his knee, Shen Wan silently moved her knee away a little. Xie Jingyan said helplessly, "We have to go back to the Pingyang Marquis's residence tomorrow, so go to bed early tonight."

She really wanted to sleep, but holding her like this, she couldn't fall asleep without calming herself down.

Poor Shen Wan was finally about to fall asleep when Xie Jingyan got up again. After this happened twice, Shen Wan couldn't hold it in any longer and said, "Don't drink too much water before bed."

Xie Jingyan gritted his teeth and said, "I'm going to take a cold shower!"

Shen Wan, "..."

Having walked right into his line of fire, Shen Wan pretended she hadn't said anything, moved to the side to sow discord, and played dead.

Xie Jingyan didn't do anything else and closed his eyes to sleep.

The next morning, Shen Wan woke up to find herself alone in bed. Yin Shuang and Hai Tang came in to help her get up, and Shen Wan asked, "When did he get up?"

Yinshuang said, "The prince got up more than half an hour ago and practiced martial arts in the side courtyard. Doctor Tao came to take the prince's pulse and said that the poison in the prince's body has been completely cleared. However, Doctor Tao said that the prince's leg injury has just been cured and that the prince should not practice too intensely and should proceed gradually."

With Doctor Tao taking care of Xie Jingyan's health, Shen Wan was quite relieved.

After she finished washing up, the maid brought the food into the room, and Xie Jingyan returned. After the two finished breakfast, they left the mansion together.

As she reached the gate, Shen Wan remembered the time she bumped into Xie Jingyan in a carriage and caused him to have a nosebleed. This time, she learned her lesson and didn't sit near the door again; she sat wherever she was supposed to.

Although she wasn't sitting right next to Xie Jingyan, it was practically the same. Even so, Xie Jingyan was still not satisfied and pulled Shen Wan to sit in his lap.

Shen Wan placed her hand against his chest and said, "Aren't you afraid I'll bump into you again and make your nose bleed?"

Xie Jingyan said, "I won't feel at ease if I don't hold him."

Shen Wan looked at him, puzzled. "What are you worried about?"

Xie Jingyan simply held her without explaining. Shen Wan assumed it was just an excuse, but she didn't say anything and let him hold her.

With many pedestrians on the street, the carriage couldn't move fast. Half an hour later, the carriage finally stopped at the gate of the Marquis of Pingyang's residence.

As Shen Wan climbed out of the carriage, she saw her elder brother coming out to greet her. Shen Wan helped Yin Shuang down from the carriage, and Shen Du said, "Did you come back alone, little sister?"

Shen Wan said, "Your Highness...my husband is in the carriage."

Chen Du raised an eyebrow and tapped the carriage road. "You're not a new son-in-law anymore, so hurry up and get down. Do you expect me to have someone set off firecrackers to welcome you?"

Shen Wan, "..."

The older brother is pretty deserving of a beating.

But one guy's reply was even more infuriating: "My legs are numb from sitting, I need to rest for a while."

Shen Wan, "..."

Chen Du, “…???”

Shen Du frowned. He could understand if his buttocks went numb from sitting, but how could his legs go numb?

Shen Du wanted to ask his younger sister how her brother-in-law sat, but when he saw his sister's face turn completely red, he suddenly understood—his "stool" had gone numb.

Chen Du stroked his chin and said, "Little sister, the quality of your stool isn't very good."

Shen Wan, "..."

Xie Jingyan, "..."

These two bastards are already going back and forth, but why use her as a scapegoat? Shen Wan pretended not to understand, turned around and went up the steps, ignoring Xie Jingyan.

Xie Jingyan only needs to accompany her back to the Pingyang Marquis's residence. He doesn't need to accompany her to visit the old lady and the second wife, and he probably won't.

Yinshuang and Haitang followed behind, carrying gifts for the visit, all the way to Qinghui Courtyard, still wondering why the carriage seats were of poor quality.

Upon entering Qinghui Courtyard, Shen Wan headed towards the inner room where the old lady resided, but was stopped by a maid. The old lady was in a bad mood, and the maid had to inform her first to see if the old lady would see her.

The maid turned and went into the room. A short while later, Wang Mama came out and said, "The old lady is in a bad mood and won't see anyone. Please go back, eldest young lady."

Shen Wan sighed and said, "Tell Grandmother to take care of herself. I'll come back to see her in a few days."

Yinshuang and Haitang handed the tonics they brought to the maid, and Shenwan curtsied to the inner room before turning and leaving.

The old lady wouldn't see her, and she didn't want to see the old lady either. Shen Wan left without looking back. However, when she left the courtyard, Shen Ying came over with her maid. Her steps were heavy and light, her face was full of anger, and her eyes were red, as if she had been crying.

Shen Wan saw Shen Ying, and Shen Ying saw her too. Almost instantly, a terrifying cold light flashed in her eyes. She walked over and said angrily, "You didn't come back yesterday for Second Brother's funeral, so what are you doing back today?!"

The accusations came crashing down on her, and Shen Wan's face turned cold. "Whether I return to the Pingyang Marquis's residence or not is none of your business. You may feel guilty towards your second brother, but I don't."

With the words "I feel ashamed," Shen Ying's tears, which she had been trying so hard to hold back, welled up. Her hands, hidden beneath her sleeves, clenched tightly, digging into her flesh. The pain in her palms was nothing compared to the pain in her heart.
