Young Master Cheng asked the steward, "Why would Princess Ling come to our Right Prime Minister's residence?"
The steward said, "It's fortunate that Princess Ling came to the manor today, otherwise a major disaster would have occurred."
Young Master Cheng was puzzled. The steward whispered a few words in his ear, and Young Master Cheng's expression changed. He turned around and went into the mansion to see his younger sister.
Inside the carriage, Shen Wan leaned against it, and Yin Shuang said, "It was really close today. Luckily, the Princess reacted quickly. If it had been any later, we wouldn't have been able to save Miss Cheng."
Shen Wan still feels terrified when she thinks about it.
After feeling relieved, Yinshuang asked, puzzled, "Why would Miss Cheng rather die than tell the truth?"
Shen Wan sighed, “Because she knew that even if she spoke, she couldn’t save the life of the Prince of Yanping. It would only make people know that the son of the Princess of Huyang died because of his own fault. The Princess of Huyang and the Empress Dowager would lose face and would definitely take their anger out on the entire Right Prime Minister’s Mansion. She didn’t say it to protect the Right Prime Minister’s Mansion. She wanted to die because she didn’t want to betray the feelings that the Prince of Yanping had for her.”
These past two days must have been agonizing for Miss Cheng. She knew she had to tell the truth, even if it couldn't save the life of the Prince of Yanping, she had to let people know he was innocent. But telling the truth would mean plunging the entire Prime Minister's residence into deep trouble. On one side was the Prince of Yanping, and on the other was the Prime Minister's residence; she couldn't bear to lose either of them.
After the Crown Prince of Yanping handed down his verdict, Miss Cheng felt she had let him down. All she could do was go to the Yellow Springs ahead of time to wait for him.
It was one thing to try to kill herself in her past life, but in this life, knowing that the Yun family has a death-exemption token that can save the Prince of Yanping, couldn't she at least wait a few more days even if she wanted to die?
She felt she had no face to see Prince Yanping again, so she had to find a way to tell him about Cheng Da Niang's feelings for her and write him a letter so that he wouldn't feel guilty. Once someone is determined to die, no one can stop them.
The servant drove the carriage back to the Ling Prince's residence. As Shen Wan stepped down from the carriage, she recalled how her cousin had rushed to the Ling Prince's residence earlier when she left. At the time, she was busy rescuing Cheng Yao and hadn't asked him a single question. Now, thinking about it, she couldn't help but feel worried. Could something have happened to the Yun family? It shouldn't be like that, though.
Back at the Ink Jade Pavilion, Shen Wan asked her maid, "Where is the Prince?"
The maid replied, "The prince and young master Yun left the manor together and haven't returned yet."
Xie Jingyan wasn't there, so Shen Wan went back to her room. When Haitang saw her come in, she quickly came up to her and whispered a few words in Shen Wan's ear. Shen Wan's expression changed drastically. "What?!"
