Shen Wan asked, "Brother, did you drink too much yesterday and haven't sobered up yet?"
Chen Du said, "My elder brother has never been this clear-headed before."
He thought Shen Wan knew nothing yet. He looked at Xie Jingyan and said excitedly, "The person I married is her, and the person she married is me."
"She is Princess Huai'an, Princess Huai'an is her!"
Xie Jingyan frowned deeply. "Didn't you climb over the wall with her to see Princess Huai'an?"
Shen Du didn't know how to tell Xie Jingyan about this, so he could only start from the beginning.
The story begins with Shen Li's death from a fall from his horse. Since Shen Li was riding Shen Du's horse when the accident happened, both the old lady and the second wife blamed Shen Du. Shen Du couldn't stay in the Pingyang Marquis's mansion, and he knew that in Shen Wan's dream, he fell in love at first sight with the Princess of Huai'an of the Prince of An's mansion and would marry no one but her. Shen Du didn't believe that he was that kind of person.
Isn't love at first sight just lust at first sight?
Is Princess Huai'an so beautiful that he couldn't take his eyes off her?
Just then, Xie Jingyan needed to investigate the granaries in Meizhou. Huaizhou was right next to Meizhou, so he took on the task, handling both official and personal matters at the same time.
He first went to Meizhou to check the granaries and confirmed that there was no grain stored there. After sending a message to Xie Jingyan by carrier pigeon, he left Meizhou and headed to Huaizhou.
On the day he arrived in Huaizhou, he planned to sneak into the Prince An's mansion to see what the Princess of Huai'an looked like. However, on his way to the mansion, he encountered two local thugs chasing a boy. The boy was panting heavily and about to be caught. On a gamble, he asked him for help. Although Chen Du was not one to meddle in other people's business, he couldn't bear to watch the thugs bully people in broad daylight.
With one kick, the two thugs were sent flying, crashing heavily to the ground and unable to get up for a long time.
The boy was too exhausted to run any further. Seeing that he was highly skilled in martial arts, he insisted on thanking him and invited him to dinner. Shen Du knew that the boy was afraid that someone else was chasing him and didn't dare to be alone.
It was lunchtime, and Shen Du thought that since they had already arrived in Huaizhou, they could go see Princess Huai'an whenever they wanted, so it wouldn't make a difference if they waited a little longer.
The two headed towards the largest restaurant in Huaizhou. As they entered, they happened to run into the Prince of An's heir, who, upon seeing the young man, spoke in an unfriendly tone, "You still dare to come to a restaurant?"
The boy hid behind him, and when the Prince of An came over to grab him, Shen Du grabbed his hand.
Then the two started fighting outside the restaurant.
The Prince of An was no match for him, and the young man, fearing that he would seriously injure the Prince of An, dragged him away.
The two ate noodles at a roadside stall.
He claimed his surname was Yun, but the boy said his surname was An.
After they finished eating, they parted ways. As he left, he asked one more question, "Do you know where the Prince An's residence is?"
The boy's eyes widened. "You're going to Prince An's residence?"
"Um."
The boy asked, "What are you going to the Prince An's residence for?"
Chen Du said, "Something came up."
The boy looked troubled and said, "You'd better not go."
Shen Du asked, puzzled, "Why?"
The boy said, "You just hit the heir of the Prince An's mansion. Going to the Prince An's mansion is like walking into a trap."
Shen Du never expected that upon arriving in Huaizhou, before even meeting Princess Huai'an, he would beat up her brother. It seemed that his connection with Princess Huai'an was indeed very shallow.
Shen Du said nonchalantly, "I didn't intend to enter the Prince An's mansion through the main gate."
The boy looked at him strangely, pointed him in the right direction, and followed him. "Are you trying to sneak into the Prince An's mansion without going through the main gate? If you get caught, you'll be beaten to death."
Shen Du said, "Knowing I'm going to do something dangerous, why are you still following me?"
The boy said, "You saved me, I can't just watch you go to your death. Take me with you, who knows, I might be able to help you later."
With skills that couldn't even beat two thugs, what help could he possibly offer?
Upon reaching the walls of Prince An's mansion, he leaped inside, and the young man followed, crawling through a dog hole.
Seeing his persistence, and fearing that he would be captured and beaten to death by the people of Prince An's mansion, they had no choice but to take him along.
Once inside the courtyard, the young man asked him what he had come to the Prince An's residence for, and he didn't hide it from him: "I was just curious about what Princess Huai'an looks like, so I came to take a look."
The boy looked at him in disbelief. "Why are you curious about what Princess Huai'an looks like?"
Shen Du said, "I've come to see what kind of stunning beauty Princess Huai'an possesses that made me fall in love with her at first sight and decide to marry no one else."
The boy's cheeks were flushed, and even the roots of his ears were almost transparently red.
When they arrived at the backyard, they saw Princess Huai'an sitting in the pavilion, wearing a light veil and playing the zither. Her playing was... well, let's just say it was not very good.
A pebble was shot out, and the veil of Princess Huai'an fell off, revealing her true face.
The face was decent-looking, but not enough to impress him.
Chen Du was both disappointed and relieved, feeling relieved, and led the boy out of the Prince An's mansion.
Not long after leaving the Prince An's mansion, the boy encountered a servant from the mansion. He grabbed the servant and ran away. After shaking off the servant, the boy accompanied him to tour Huaizhou, where they had a great time. As evening approached, the boy prepared to leave, but just then, assassins from Meizhou arrived in Huaizhou, intending to kill him to silence him.
During the fight, the jade crown on the boy's head was shattered by the assassin's sword, and Shen Du realized that she was a girl with a beautiful and refined appearance that was unforgettable.
