Dr. Tao has always done his best in treating and saving lives.
He gave the eldest prince an antidote to suppress the poison, and then treated the wound.
Miss Tao brought over writing brush, ink, paper, and inkstone. Doctor Tao wrote down a prescription and told Chen Feng to quickly go to the capital to get the medicine. He also instructed, "Have the pharmacy prepare the medicine for you. After the Crown Prince returns to the capital, he should take the medicine before going to the palace."
So many people, including Prince Yanping and Tang Ze, were looking for the eldest prince. The eldest prince was brought to Doctor Tao for treatment, but no one came looking for him. It's highly likely that all of the eldest prince's guards are dead.
After discussing it, Xie Jingyan and the others decided that Xie Jingyan, Cheng Yi, and Du Cheng'an would escort the eldest prince back to the palace, while the others would go about their business.
After such a big incident, Shen Wan and the others had no appetite for the whole fish feast. However, if they went back together and were attacked on the way, it would be more dangerous to take them with them. It would be better to stay here. If Xie Jingyan could make it in time, he would come to pick up Shen Wan. If he couldn't make it in time, Chen Feng would bring his guards to meet her.
Prince Yanping and his entourage felt that Xie Jingyan's arrangement was quite appropriate, so they decided on it.
The guards bought two cotton quilts from a nearby village, placed them on the carriage, and then helped the eldest prince lie down on them. Doctor Tao took care of him, and Chen Feng drove the carriage back to the capital.
The Imperial Study.
The emperor is reviewing memorials.
Eunuch Yuan stood by and served them.
Xiao Xizi stepped forward and said, "Your Majesty, Prince Jin has arrived."
"Let him in."
Xiao Xizi left, and a short while later, Xie Jingyin went in.
Seeing that he was alone, the Emperor frowned. "After sending the Crown Prince of Xiliang and the Second Prince of Donglie away from the capital, why are you the only one returning to the palace to report back, and why are you so late?"
Xie Jingyin hurriedly replied, "I saw the envoy off long ago. But no sooner had the envoy left than my eldest brother received a letter saying that he was going to see an old friend and asked me to return to the palace first. I thought that my eldest brother and his old friend wouldn't be able to talk for long, so I waited for him while enjoying the scenery along the way. But my eldest brother didn't come for a long time, and I was afraid that Father would be anxious, so I returned to the palace first."
The Emperor's brows furrowed deeply. "Is there some old friend you wish to meet by sending a message with an arrow?"
Xie Jingyin replied, "Your subject asked, but the eldest prince left without saying anything."
Xie Jingyin was unaware of this, so the Emperor did not ask any further questions.
Xie Jingyin didn't linger. "Without disturbing Father Emperor's review of the memorials, I shall take my leave."
Xie Jingyin took two steps back, turned around and left.
After leaving the Imperial Study, Xie Jingyin walked towards the Phoenix Palace. He didn't notice that as he turned around, a young eunuch was walking quickly towards the Imperial Study with small, quick steps.
Inside the imperial study, after reading one memorial, the emperor turned and picked up another.
As soon as the door opened, Xiao Xizi rushed in and said, "Your Majesty, something terrible has happened! The First Prince is in trouble!"
The Emperor's expression changed, and he asked, "What happened to the First Prince?!"
No one knows exactly what happened to the eldest prince.
Xiao Xizi reported what he knew to the Emperor: "Today, Prince Ling and the heir of Prince Yanping went fishing and picnicking on the riverbank. They found a piece of silk floating downstream, which looked like something the First Prince would wear. Worried that something might have happened to the First Prince, the heir of Prince Yanping and Young Master Tang went upstream to search for him. When they found the First Prince, none of his guards were there. He was seriously injured, with a sword wound to a vital spot, and he was also poisoned..."
The Emperor's face turned ashen when he heard that even Doctor Tao was not confident he could save the Crown Prince's life.
Phoenix Palace.
Empress Song sat on the phoenix chair, holding a teacup in her hand, looking rather absent-minded.
A palace maid stepped forward and said, "Your Majesty, Prince Jin has arrived."
Empress Song snapped out of her daze and quickly put down her teacup. By then, Xie Jingyin had already stepped forward.
Granny Du waved her hand, dismissing all the palace servants in the bedchamber.
Empress Song asked, "How is it?"
Xie Jingyin said, "We should have succeeded."
"What do you mean by 'should have succeeded'?" This displeased Empress Song.
If you succeed, you succeed; if you don't, you don't. What's this talk of "should"?
Xie Jingyin said, "The stab hit the Crown Prince's vital point, but he escaped under the cover of the guards. When the secret guards went to chase after him, they encountered the Prince of Yanping and his men nearby, and had to retreat for fear of being discovered."
Empress Song's heart trembled at these words, and she couldn't help but get angry, saying, "How did you choose this location? This matter must be absolutely foolproof. What kind of work are your subordinates doing?"
He wasn't defending his subordinates; they really couldn't be blamed for this.
Prince Yanping and his companions were clearly fishing and picnicking downstream; heaven knows how they ended up nearby, catching them completely off guard.
Xie Jingyin said, "Don't worry, Mother. I did it myself. The First Prince has no chance of survival..."
Before he could finish speaking, there was a loud banging on the door.
The sound was so loud that Empress Song's heart skipped a beat.
The palace maid knocked a few times and then hurried in. Granny Du scolded, "Why don't you knock more quietly? What's the rush to report this at this hour?"
The palace maid said urgently, "The eldest prince was seriously injured, but was rescued by Prince Ling and the heir of Prince Yanping."
Swish.
The color drained from Empress Song's face in an instant.
Xie Jingyin's expression wasn't much better.
Shou Kang Palace.
The Empress Dowager sat on a small couch, her arms resting on a small table, her eyes closed as she rested. A palace maid stood beside her, fanning her with a peacock fan.
Inside the palace, palace maids knelt on the ground, wiping the bluestone floor.
A little eunuch ran in. The ground was wet and hadn't dried yet. The little eunuch was running too fast and fell down.
The fall was quite loud and woke the Empress Dowager.
The Empress Dowager asked, "What's wrong?"
The young eunuch didn't dare to get up and knelt down to report, "On the way back to the city with the envoy, the Crown Prince was seriously injured and lost too much blood, falling into a coma. Even Doctor Tao isn't confident he can save the Crown Prince's life..."
