Candy House in the Forest 2

Candy House in the Forest 2

The gentle and peaceful light waited for the moths to be attracted. Ji Yunding walked around the light carefully, making sure not to fall into darkness, but not to be completely in the light.

Ji Yunding's eyesight could at least make out shadows moving in the darkness, but he couldn't see the details clearly. Strangely, Ji Yunding didn't hear any sound coming from that direction.

In the dead silence, Ji Yunding heard the sudden and sharp sound of a window opening. Thinking something was wrong, he rushed to the darkness on the side.

Sure enough, the light bulb began to sway in the wind, and the light swayed and shone on the place where Ji Yunding had just stepped.

As he ran closer into the darkness, Ji Yunding discovered a floor-length mirror. In the mirror, an old man with a hooked nose was holding a knife and cutting the meat of an unknown creature. If he was optimistic enough, he might think that the meat came from a slender livestock.

Ji Yunding thought about it, picked up the mirror, turned around, and moved sideways along the wall, allowing the back of the mirror to completely block him.

Along the way, he passed by many mirrors, most of which showed similar bloody scenes, but the age and appearance of the old man and the part of the meat he was cutting were different. Ji Yunding turned all the mirrors over so that their backs were facing outwards.

There was no light at the end, but fortunately Ji Yunding had already adapted to the darkness and could still see some things clearly.

The old woman reflected in the mirror was gentle and kind. She was sitting in a rocking chair by the fireplace with her eyes closed, as if she was asleep.

Ji Yunding put the mirror in his hand in the corner, reached out and touched the mirror at the end of the corridor. His fingertips felt a slight curvature of the mirror, but the touch did not feel like touching glass, but more like putting his hand into water.

"Team leader, I can't swim. If there is water, remember to rescue me in time." Ji Yunding muttered, then took a deep breath and held it, then stepped forward without hesitation and stepped into the mirror.

The experience of traveling through the mirror is more like walking in a rainstorm so heavy that one cannot open one's eyes than swimming. Ji Yunding protected his nose with his palm, trying to buy himself a chance to breathe.

There seemed to be more water in the air than oxygen, and breathing it in could choke people. Ji Yunding couldn't open her eyes, so she could only keep walking forward until she passed through the water curtain and entered a warm and dry place. When she turned around, she found that the place she came from had become the chocolate door of the candy house.

"Hey, little girl, what's wrong with you?" An old voice came from behind. Ji Yunding turned around and saw the old woman in the mirror standing up and looking at her worriedly, "Why are you shivering? Are you very cold? Come over and warm yourself by the fire."

"Sorry to bother you, I should have knocked on the door." Ji Yunding looked around while apologizing and did not find anything unusual.

A cozy fire, soft sofas and sweet smells.

Ji Yunding felt a little sleepy.

"It's okay, come over here and take a rest."

"Mother-in-law, can I stay here for one night?" Ji Yunding scratched his head, a little embarrassed, "Well... I... I don't have any money."

"Is that so? Then come over here and listen to me tell you some stories. Just keep me company and that will count as your accommodation fee, okay?"

The old woman smiled kindly, as if she was really just taking care of Ji Yunding's self-esteem and making a harmless request.

I can’t make my mother-in-law sad…if I continue to refuse, something bad will probably happen.

Ji Yunding nodded and sat on the sofa.

The closer Ji Yunding got to the stove, the heavier his eyelids felt, as if he was about to fall asleep at any moment.

"Do you like sweets?"

"I don't know. The doctor told me not to eat." Ji Yunding sat up straighter, trying to cheer himself up with a proper sitting posture. "The doctor said that my stomach is not in good condition and I can only eat vegetarian food. If I don't take care of myself, I will have to have surgery."

She had learned that if she encountered something she didn't want to do in a social setting, she could just make up a serious enough consequence so that the other party would not be able to continue asking for it.

Sure enough, the old woman sighed after hearing this: "Alas, this cup of hot cocoa will be wasted..."

It was only then that Ji Yunding realized that a cup of hot cocoa had been placed in front of him. It was dark, sticky, and steaming.

So sleepy...

Ji Yunding suddenly had the urge to drink the cup of hot cocoa and have a good sleep, but because she was just thinking about how to slap herself to stay awake, this incompatible idea did not impress her at all.

However, pain can come from many sources.

Ji Yunding picked up the hot cocoa and held it in his hand, letting the heat seep through the cup and pass into his palms until his hands were slightly red from the heat.

"Little girl, why are you here?"

"I don't know. My boss asked me to come, so I came." Ji Yunding was scalded and became a little more sober. "Maybe I was distracted and didn't listen. He sent me here to reflect on myself."

After being caught in the rain, Ji Yunding did reflect on himself a little, but he didn't figure it out and was ready to go back and ask Zheng Nuo.

"Just because of this?" The old woman's eyes widened, as if she was a little surprised. "It's very dangerous for a little girl to come here alone. There are only trees nearby. Your boss is too narrow-minded."

Ji Yunding shook his head and said seriously: "No, he is a very good person. It should be my problem."

"Poor child... Come on, go inside and get some sleep, everything will be fine." The old woman sighed, stood up and took Ji Yunding to the room, "There have been rumors of ghosts around here, just ignore them. I have lived here for decades, and nothing has ever happened."

Ji Yunding originally wanted to take the hot cocoa into the room to study it, but after thinking about it carefully, he didn't know whether this behavior would conflict with "subtlely refusing sweets", so he gave up.

There was a mirror in the room, facing the door, and perhaps because the light in the room was bright, Ji Yunding could not see anything else through the mirror and could only see his own reflection.

But this time she heard the sound of knife sharpening in the mirror, very light, but very close, as if there was really only a thin mirror between them. If she dimmed the light here, she would probably see the person on the other side of the mirror looking straight at her.

In reality, a two-way mirror is one where the darker side can see the bright side, but the bright side cannot see the dark side. Ji Yunding guessed that the principle here is probably similar.

This also means that Ji Yunding has been seen.

"Don't worry, little girl. They can't get through without my permission." Unexpectedly, the old woman said this first, and smiled gently, "Think about it, when you come here by yourself, don't you also have to go through the door?"

Ji Yunding nodded obediently, sat down on the bed, and clenched the bed sheet with his right hand: "I understand, thank you."

Seeing Ji Yunding's expression, the old woman nodded with satisfaction and went out. The moment she closed the door, Ji Yunding immediately rushed over with the bed sheet and covered the mirror.

This is definitely not a safe house, and that old woman is probably not a good person.

Ji Yunding couldn't quite understand the key points of what others said, but she was very good at observing what others did.

Just like now, she found that the old woman had repeatedly guided her to sit in front of the stove, and even after she explained that she only ate vegetarian food, she still casually mentioned the hot cocoa in front of her, and just now she wanted her to relax her guard in front of the mirror.

Perhaps these alone are normal, but the most important thing is, judging from the sentence just now, this old woman knows what is in the mirror and is definitely not ignorant of the rules.

Before she said this, it was difficult to determine whether her behavior had any ulterior motive, but now, this series of actions was enough to be called suspicious.

Ji Yunding guessed that she should be the old woman's prey now, so the others in the mirror did not dare to act rashly. Then, what would happen if the old woman felt that she would never get this prey?

Ji Yunding tapped his head, which was invaded by the sweet smell and sleepiness, and tried to think more clearly.

"Don't make your mother-in-law sad, so this is what you mean..."

Last time I had two roommates with me, but this time there was really no one around and I felt like I was in a bad mood.

"It's so difficult. Under this premise, I have to escape, but I don't know how to walk in the forest after I get out... Do I have to walk back to the classroom by myself to get full marks?"

Ji Yunding sat cross-legged, mumbling to himself quietly and quickly, without making any actual sound.

Anyway, let's prepare some food first. According to the rules, you can ask the old lady for some vegetarian food and fruits, and we can think of other things on the way. If it weren't for the fact that these desserts can't be eaten...

Ji Yunding looked at the dessert displays everywhere, then turned to look at the wall made of chocolate bars and sighed deeply.

On the other side, Ji Liuxing was reading Ji Yunding's lip language and found it somewhat amusing.

Walking all the way back from the other dimension? Then he should just give her the position of team leader.

There are seven places in this batch, five of which are special admissions. Only Ji Yunding and Zheng Nuo were specially selected by him from the pile of freshmen.

The specially recruited students include the successors of each group and those who have been inexplicably involved in sudden strange events and survived. This group of people are not the same as the academic school, and most of them have some prejudice against the academic school.

For example, this guy who had just been sent back from another dimension—the person assigned by the superpower-related research group—was looking at Ji Liuxing with resentment.

"I told you that you don't need to come next time." Ji Liuxing closed his eyes and concentrated on observing the students' situations while casually dealing with this guy, "Also, I think you should have some newcomers who are stronger than you. I'll have to go to your group and ask them later."

Just ask who wasted the precious spot he provided.

“No matter how bad I am, I shouldn’t be worse than those two amateurs! This is unreasonable!” The man got furious when he heard this. He stood up and approached Ji Liuxing. “I heard that these two people are women. You must have arranged some simple things for them…”

Before he could finish his words, the man felt an irresistible force coming from the back of his head, followed by a pain in his forehead, and his entire face was pressed on the table.

Ji Liuxing held the man down with just one hand, without him even opening his eyes.

"Quiet."

As he spoke, Ji Liuxing grabbed him again and slammed him against the table. Originally, Ji Liuxing didn't intend to make things too difficult for him - after all, he was just a newcomer with connections and might not understand the pros and cons of this matter.

But since he had this idea, if he didn't handle it properly, it would cause trouble for the two team members he had just recruited. Anyway, those who could really say a few words about this matter were too lazy to embarrass Ji Liuxing, who could die at any time.

Ji Liuxing didn't stop until the man's head was bleeding. He took out a tissue and wiped his hands slowly: "Call and ask the leader of your group to come see me now."
