Chapter 2 of Ming Niang Yang

Chapter 2 of Ming Niang Yang

A child ran past Yan Ran, flying a kite. Wang Jinhua released her grip on Yan Ran and kicked the child in the butt.

Wang Jinhua said, "I've told you so many times, don't fly kites in crowded places!"

The child rubbed his butt, curled his lips at Wang Jinhua, turned around and ran away.

Wang Jinhua pulled Yan Ran and said, "Children here love to fly kites. Be careful when you walk. It will hurt if you get cut by the kite string."

Yan Ran looked at the startled Wang Jinhua and wanted to give her some psychological counseling. In this small village devoid of any recreational facilities, the children could only play with kites.

The two of them came to a gentle slope where quite a few people were gathered. A young Taoist priest in a blue robe was pacing in front of an incense table in the open space, waving his sword and circling back and forth.

Yan Ran rubbed her eyes. The Taoist priest looked familiar to her: tall, thin, with an unshaved beard and slightly curly hair...

The two words rolled in Yan Ran's throat twice before he uttered them softly: "Walnut?"

The Taoist priest glanced at Yan Ran vaguely, without any change in his expression.

Yan Ran looked at the sword flowers waving in the Taoist's hand, and kept muttering four words in his heart: "playing tricks."

"Playing tricks!"

A drunken voice exploded, and then a burly man appeared from nowhere.

The Taoist priest remained unmoved, stepping on the ground with his feet and muttering to himself.

The big man was carrying a large bag of braised pork heads and burping as he pushed away the crowd blocking his way.

"A good dog doesn't block the road! Are you all just blocking here waiting to be reincarnated?"

Everyone was angry but dared not say anything when they saw the drunk.

Yan Ran looked at the drunk, then at Wang Jinhua, and then at the crowd. She found that everyone here was surprisingly burly, as if they were cut from the same mold.

The drunk rushed all the way to the Taoist priest, pointed at his nose and said one word: "Get out!"

The Taoist priest glanced at the burly man, then crossed his sword to his left hand. With a flick of his right sword finger, he suddenly produced two yellow talismans out of thin air. He pinched the talismans and quickly tapped them on the drunk's shoulders and head, shouting, "Chi!"

The talisman paper spontaneously combusted without fire. The drunk man saw the fire before him and subconsciously took a half step back.

The Taoist priest threw the unburned talisman paper in his hand into the air and glanced at the drunkard lightly.

"You are carrying a dark aura, which I have just exorcised for you. However, you must not travel at night these days, remember this."

The Taoist priest's trick of causing the talisman paper to spontaneously combust without fire truly stunned everyone. The drunkard was no exception, merely pretending to be quick-witted.

"Humph, what does a mere Yin Qi count for?"

The drunk curled his lips, walked around the Taoist priest and walked away.

Yan Ran stared at the Taoist priest's wide cuffs and finally held back some words.

Wang Jinhua muttered quietly, "This master is really capable. He even intimidated Zhu Shun. I wonder if he can treat hysteria."

Seeing that the sponsor was very active, Yan Ran quickly interrupted: "Sister, the people in your town are so fierce."

Wang Jinhua grinned and said, "We have this drunkard here. He drinks and acts crazy every meal. Don't bother with him."

As they were talking, the Taoist priest was surrounded by several people who wanted to ask for talismans. Wang Jinhua also came over when she saw them.

The Taoist priest in the middle of the group still had a calm expression. "Dear customers, the amulet is 50 yuan each. If you have any other needs, you can add me on WeChat. Please pay attention to my circle of friends. You can refer to the content above."

Yan Ran was dismissive and added WeChat because she didn't believe other people's phones could have a signal.

The Taoist flipped his left hand, and a small stack of business cards appeared from his empty palm. When everyone saw this, there was another round of discussion.

The Taoist priest handed out his business card to everyone and said, "Everyone, this is my business card. It has both WeChat and phone numbers on it, and the phone is open 24 hours a day. I can assist with weddings and funerals, fortune-telling, feng shui, and all kinds of difficult and complicated illnesses."

When Wang Jinhua heard the word "weakness", her eyes lit up even brighter, and she grabbed the Taoist priest and pulled him towards her.

Yan Ran felt her eyelids twitching. She walked over to Wang Jinhua and said to the Taoist priest, "This... Taoist priest, you look very familiar."

The Taoist priest seemed not to hear and continued handing out business cards.

Yan Ran took another half step forward and whispered, "Walnut?"

The Taoist priest suddenly stopped moving and quickly counted on his left hand, as if he was calculating something.

Everyone paused. Was this Taoist priest going to perform another ritual?

The Taoist looked around and said, "It's past the best time today. It's not suitable to stay here any longer. Please move on."

Everyone was stunned and didn't understand what was going on.

The Taoist added, "It would be bad luck to stay here at this time."

As soon as he finished speaking, a breeze blew by, and the hillside was empty.

The Taoist priest looked at Yan Ran and said loudly, "I see purple air coming from the east behind you, my dear. May I have a moment to speak?"

Yan Ran glanced at Wang Jinhua who was hiding far away behind a big tree, said he would be back soon, and followed the Taoist priest into the woods behind.

There was no one around, so Yan Ran glared at the Taoist priest: "Still pretending?"

The Taoist priest's originally calm expression suddenly revealed a sly smile: "Iron Chicken!"

Yan Ran gritted his teeth: "I haven't seen you for several years. I didn't expect you to be such a liar!"

The Taoist priest quickly waved his hands: "Don't talk nonsense!"

Yan Ran grabbed the Taoist's sleeve and pulled out several pieces of talisman paper from the inner layer.

"That's it? It turns into talisman paper, right? It turns into business cards, right?"

As he spoke, Yan Ran took out a stack of business cards from the lining of his other sleeve.

The Taoist priest snatched the business card back.

"See through it but don't say it out loud!"

Yan Ran hummed, rubbing the talisman paper in her hand with her fingers. In a moment, the talisman paper in her hand began to burn.

"Put some phosphorus powder on the paper, then rub it to generate heat and it will set the paper on fire. It's the same old trick, right? Can you come up with something new?"

The Taoist priest snatched the remaining talisman paper from Yan Ran's hand.

"Don't play around, this is all cost!"

Yan Ran patted the paper ash in his hand and said, "You're such a good fellow, Jie Qian! No wonder you didn't show up at the class reunion. It turns out you did something wrong and are afraid to see people."

The Taoist took a half step back and said, "Iron Chicken, please don't talk nonsense. I am upright and honest. I am helping them to exorcise the evil spirits! Besides, my name is Jie Qianchou now."

Yan Ran covered his mouth exaggeratedly: "Oh my God, you really went on a safari? Didn't you say you were admitted to the Public Security University?"

Xie Qianchou was stunned for a moment, then said, "It's none of your business."

"Tsk!" Yan Ran took a half step forward. "Who cares about you? I just don't like you lying. So what?"

Jie Qianchou blinked, then suddenly said with a serious expression, "You also know that I was admitted to the Public Security University, so why do you think I'm here now?"

Yan Ran also blinked: "Yes, why?"

Jie Qianchou gave a sharp look.

"You even changed your name on purpose..." Yan Ran slammed his fist on his palm: "You are on a mission, so you are..."

Jie Qianchou hurriedly covered Yan Ran's mouth: "Keep your voice down!"

Yan Ran blinked again, pushed Jie Qianchou's hand away, and said, "There won't be a murderer here, right? Or a gang? Or a cult?"

Jie Qianchou shook his head slightly, looking at the sky at a 45-degree angle with a serious expression.

Yan Ran felt his heart beating faster, blaming himself for being so careless in following a strong woman to a place where there was no cell phone signal. What if there was a criminal organization that sold human organs?

"master?"

Yan Ran looked back in the direction of the sound, and Wang Jinhua's fat face quietly appeared behind her.

Wang Jinhua completely ignored Yan Ran and stared straight at Jie Qianchou.

"Master, can you also treat minor illnesses? How much does it cost per consultation?" Yan Ran was terrified. He wondered if he would come all this way and not even make 500 yuan. Looking at Jie Qianchou again, he had already returned to his previous masterful demeanor, his expression as calm as water.

"I can see." Jie Qianchou glanced at Yan Ran, "But it's definitely not as good as this patron's. There's purple energy rising from this person's back. He must be either a capable person or a good doctor."

Wang Jinhua tried hard to digest what Jie Qianchou meant, and Yan Ran couldn't wait to ask.

"Am I safe here? That is, which one, you know!"

Jie Qianchou smiled faintly: "Just do good things and don't worry about the future." After that, he turned away.

Yan Ran bit his lip and cursed in his heart, you mean you want me not to expose you?
