Chapter 32 of Ghost Buddha Yang
"Preliminary examination revealed that the deceased died of cardiac arrest caused by shock."
The medical examiner put away his gloves, said this, and got in his car and left. Bu Kui was left standing there, his face full of confusion and in disarray.
A fatality occurred at the resort's premier hot springs, and Bu Kui was the first officer to arrive. He quickly inspected the scene, but the Guanyin statue had ceased shedding tears of blood. Police technicians arrived shortly afterward and, after investigating the scene, found no evidence of homicide, temporarily ruling the death a sudden death. However, Bu Kui was filled with questions.
"Yan Ran! Now two people have died because of your predictions. How do you explain this?"
Bu Kui looked serious and stared at Yan Ran.
"A book says that not eating will kill you, and then someone dies because they don't eat. Do you want to ask the author what responsibility he has?"
Yan Ran crossed his arms and looked very imposing.
Bu Kui also crossed his arms and circled around Yan Ran.
"Stop spouting these nonsense. I'm telling you straight out today. According to reports from the public, you had conflicts with the deceased Chen Shifo and Chen Fangqin. Now that they're dead, you must give me a satisfactory answer!"
Bu Kui stood still, looking as fierce as a tiger staring at a chick.
Before Yan Ran could lose his temper, Jie Qianchou stood in front of Yan Ran, pinching his waist and scolding Bu Kui.
"You can eat whatever you want, but you can't say whatever you want. I was saying that the two deceased people had a conflict with that witch. Why don't you go and cause trouble for her?"
Tongtian Wu, who was caught in the crossfire, was not angry at all. She kept fiddling with her hair with her fingers and instead cast a coquettish glance at Jie Qianchou. Jie Qianchou and Bu Kui shuddered at the same time.
"Alright, you're openly defying the law! You two, come with me!"
Bu Kui said this, and angrily pulled the two of them away. He took them to his room and slammed the door.
Bu Kui slowly turned around and looked at the two of them. His originally angry expression instantly changed into a flattering smile.
"Hey guys, I acted pretty convincingly, didn't I?"
Jie Qianchou half-lay on the sofa, twisting his duck legs.
"I'm not saying anything bad about you, Old Bu, but aren't you being too exaggerated?"
Yan Ran leaned against the wall with his head down, looking a little lonely.
"Come on, everyone, be serious. Two people have already died."
Let’s go back to last night.
Yan Ran used a special method to stop Jie Qianchou's live broadcast - turning off his phone. Yan Ran thought Jie Qianchou would resist again, but Jie Qianchou suddenly became serious.
"There's a strange guy. Let's go talk to him."
Yan Ran was puzzled: "Come on, everyone here is weird, okay?"
Without further ado, Xie Qianchou dragged Yan Ran into Bu Kui's room. Xie Qianchou, not shy about it, plopped down on Bu Kui's bed. Bu Kui, on the other hand, was brushing his teeth, spitting heavily.
"Officer Bu, you have such a big plan."
Jie Qianchou smiled as he watched Bu Kui wipe the foam from the corner of his mouth.
"What the hell are you doing, Master?"
"Haha, I just laughed. Are you planning to sell me out and let me count the money for you?"
Bu Kui looked up at the sky, pretending not to understand.
"My boss doesn't want me to stay in Chen Shifu's room. Why, as a police officer, don't you advocate for preserving the crime scene? Instead, you insist on letting me stay? Furthermore, the medical examiner has already determined the death was sudden. Why are you still trying to stay? Officer Bu, what are you thinking?"
Bu Kui coughed twice, thought about it and told the truth.
"Actually, I'd already noticed something strange about this villa before I came here. You've probably heard the urban legends about this place, and there are many versions, so I won't waste any time. It started three or four years ago, and every year around this time, someone would die at Little House Brothers Villa, and it was always sudden death. Don't you find it strange?"
Yan Ran shook her head. She did not agree with Bu Kui's point of view.
"The world is full of coincidences. In June 2001, Laura, a 10-year-old girl from Staffs, England, wrote her name and home address on a small tag, attached it to a hydrogen balloon, and released it. The balloon flew 140 miles and landed in a resident's home. Incredibly, that family also had a daughter named Laura Buxton, who was exactly 10 years old!"
Bu Kui nodded.
"You have a point. But this year, an accident happened at this mountain resort. In previous years, those who died suddenly all died in the top-notch hot springs at the top of the mountain. But yesterday, Master Chen died in his room, a sealed room."
Yan Ran and Jie Qianchou looked at each other.
"So, you just want to alert the enemy and use us as pawns?"
"Hey, why are you talking so harshly? Isn't it every citizen's duty to assist the police?"
Yan Ran and Jie Qianchou were speechless for a moment.
"Actually, if you don't come today, I will come to find you tomorrow."
"You trust us so much, aren't you afraid that we might actually be the murderer?"
Bu Kui laughed to hide his guilty conscience.
"I've looked through all the files at this villa. You've never been here before, and I have a basic understanding of you two from that incident in Paradise Town. Of course, if you don't cooperate with me, you two could still be suspects... Okay, let's not talk about that, Master. Tell me what you found tonight, right?"
Jie Qianchou sighed in his heart. This guy was planning to treat him as free labor, but there was nothing he could do.
"You still remember the scene in the morning, right? By evening, the Buddha statue that Master Chen placed by his bed had been disfigured."
"What the hell?"
Bu Kui didn't quite understand. Jie Qianchou didn't explain, but took out the so-called "Ghost King Nail" and showed it to Bu Kui.
"I found this under Master Chen's bed. Yan Ran said she remembered it being hung around Zhang Chunhe's neck."
Bu Kui sat on the edge of the bed, frowning in thought. Yan Ran continued to add.
"Jie Qianchou discovered tonight that the Buddha statue that Monk Liaochen was worshipping had also been disfigured."
Bu Kui stood up and paced around the room.
"Looking at it this way, Master Chen's death certainly wasn't as simple as a sudden one."
Bu Kui stopped walking and looked at the two of them. Yan Ran thought he had thought of something crucial.
"What do you think we should do next?"
Yan Ran almost vomited blood. You really are looking for free cattle and horses!
"Just fry them like you fry fish."
Bu Kui looked at Yan Ran: "What do you mean?"
"If the deaths here over the years are all homicides, then I suspect the killer must be meticulous, paranoid, and possess a certain histrionic personality. Generally speaking, such people cover their tracks very well. We shouldn't follow their path, looking for clues. Instead, we should work against it and let them reveal themselves."
Yan Ran's psychological deductions about the murderer were recognized by Bu Kui, and the others subsequently discussed how Yan Ran would instigate a fight this morning. During this time, Bu Kui took advantage of the situation by entering the rooms of the individuals, searching for clues. However, Bu Kui was unaware that another person had died in such a short period of time. Bu Kui had no choice but to create the illusion of a rift between himself and Jie Qianchou, hoping to lull the real murderer into a state of disarray.
"Another person just died, and now you're still gloating over your acting skills?"
Back to the present, Yan Ran looked at the two people in front of him, seeming a little hesitant.
Xie Qianchou touched his nose and said, "Old Bu, tell me about your progress."
"Well, the surveillance equipment in this villa isn't perfect, so I didn't find anyone who had entered Master Chen's room since this morning. I quickly checked the other people's rooms. Le Chen's room was very clean. He seemed to have no other luggage except the Buddhist shrine he was carrying. Tong Tian Wu's room was just the opposite. It was a mess, full of cosmetics and clothes, but I didn't find anything strange. Kikyo's room was a little strange. There was a pet bird she brought with her, and some insects that looked like they were feeding the bird."
"What's so strange about that?"
"Have you ever seen a giant centipede being fed to a bird?"
Jie Qianchou frowned slightly, as if he had discovered some clue, but did not continue to interrupt Bu Kui.
"I couldn't get into Zhang Chunhe's room, so I didn't investigate. Wang Li's room was neat and tidy. He seemed to be a camping enthusiast, carrying a tent and related equipment. And then there's your room. Why are there so many baseball caps in your room?"
Yan Ran and Jie Qianchou looked at each other, and Yan Ran's expression changed from hesitation to shock.
"You, why are you searching our room? You said you trusted us!"
"Uh... well, it's like this! I was searching and didn't realize it was your room. Yeah! That's it."
Bu Kui thought for a moment and added, "There's another suspicious point. After Chen Shifu died, we didn't find his cell phone at the scene."
Jie Qianchou scratched his head. He vaguely remembered that Chen Shifu had a small mobile phone at that time. When they were having dinner, Chen Shifu even placed the mobile phone in the corner of the table.
"Where is Wang Li?" Yan Ran said.
"He said he was going to find a campsite."
"He came to the hot spring resort to look for a campsite?"
Yan Ran looked at Jie Qianchou and continued.
"And I always feel a little out of place when he comes here."
Jie Qianchou stood up, walked to the bed and looked at the scenery outside.
"I think I should know some little secrets."
Yan Ran lightly kicked Li Qianchou from behind.
"Will you die if you don't pretend? Tell me!"
Jie Qianchou turned around angrily: "Remember the first day when Tongtian Wu and Chen Shifo clashed and a centipede suddenly emerged from Chen Shifo's body?"
When Tongtian Wu made a move, a huge centipede emerged from Chen Shifo's body, which shocked the people present.
"Do you remember who Chen Shifu was standing with? It was Kikyo."
Yan Ran said, "You mean, the centipede on Master Chen's body was from Platycodon grandiflorum, not from the Witch of Heaven?"
"Not entirely. I think Kikyo is a descendant of traditional Japanese magic tricks, skilled in umbrella and insect magic. The birds and insects she keeps in her room, and possibly some butterflies, are all props for her magic tricks. The fact that the centipede appeared on Chen Shifu's body at that time can only mean that she and Tongtian Wu are in cahoots."
Bu Kui took a half step forward and asked, "Did they conspire to murder Chen Shifu? It's possible. A centipede can get in through a crack in a door!"
Jie Qianchou's face was filled with black lines.
"Although I still don't know who killed Chen Shifu, I already know how he killed people!"
Yan Ran and Bu Kui both looked at Jie Qianchou.
