Chapter 69

Chapter 69

The rain blurred Pei Yin's vision. She stood there blankly, watching the woman who got out of the car and walked towards Cunxi with an umbrella. From a distance, they stood side by side under the umbrella and talked about something. She felt bitter in her heart. She wanted to go forward, but retreated.

"Thank you for sending me back" Jiang Rao smiled while holding an umbrella

"It's just on the way." Gu Cunxi brushed off the rain on her left shoulder. Her clothes were wet and stuck to her body. She frowned because of the cold.

Jiang Rao took out a pack of tissues from his bag and handed it over: "Thank you, otherwise I might have been stuck there for a long time."

"Thank you." Gu Cunxi took the tissue and wiped his slightly wet hair.

"And here" Jiang Rao raised his hand and stretched it towards Gu Cunxi's forehead.

In a split second of instinct, she took a half step back.

“…”

Jiang Rao's hand stopped in mid-air, and was dodged by Gu Cunxi without a trace. She was slightly startled and retracted her hand.

Pei Yin stood there in the distance, witnessing everything. For a moment, her heart was filled with sorrow. She didn't want to watch any longer, so she turned her back and walked into the community with her umbrella.

"Which building do you live in?" Jiang Rao turned his head to look at the person next to him and asked with a smile.

Number Eight

"I live in number nine, the building in front of you."

"Yeah," Gu Cunxi nodded, and moved the shopping bag in his hand to his right hand and placed it between the two of them.

Inadvertently, her sight suddenly fell on a figure that flashed by in front of her. It looked very much like Pei Yin, but before she could see clearly, the figure turned into the corner in front.

She subconsciously paused.

"What's wrong?" Jiang Rao noticed something strange about Gu Cunxi and asked

"fine"

"I'm right here, take the umbrella."

Gu Cunxi stood outside the umbrella, with raindrops falling on her. She was about to leave when Jiang Rao called her back.

"Umbrella, how am I supposed to return it to you?"

“No need to pay it back.”

After saying that, Gu Cunxi ran to the door anxiously.

She must have seen the back figure correctly, it looked a lot like her...

Jiang Rao stood there, watching Gu Cunxi's back as he left. She wanted to say something, but the figure had already run away. She looked at the umbrella in her hand, tightened her grip slightly, and a faint smile hung on the corner of her mouth.

Open the door

Pei Yin was not found in the living room.

"Pei Pei..."

"Are you back?" Pei Yin slowly walked over from the bedroom, took the shopping bag from her hand, and walked towards the kitchen.

"Well, the rain suddenly got heavier. Fortunately, I brought an umbrella." Gu Cunxi said as he brushed off his half-wet coat.

Pei Yin came out of the kitchen, took the coat from Cunxi's hand, frowned slightly and said: "Why are you so wet... Don't you have an umbrella... Go change your clothes quickly, or you'll catch a cold! I'll make you some ginger soup."

"It's too windy outside, and I can't hold my umbrella. It's okay, I'll go change my clothes."

"Hmm..." Pei Yin replied calmly while standing in the kitchen cutting ginger slices. All she could think about was the woman who had just held an umbrella for Cunxi and wiped the rain off her face...

"hiss…"

There was a slight stinging pain on my hand, and a little blood oozed out of a small cut.

"Pei Pei...what's wrong?" Gu Cunxi rushed out of the bedroom and ran to Pei Yin's side.

Just now, she was changing out of her wet shirt in the bedroom when she accidentally noticed a beige sweater hanging on the hanger next to her. It had traces of water on it. Then she remembered the figure that had just flashed by downstairs. It was this sweater! While she was in a daze, she heard a noise coming from the kitchen. She was startled and ran out quickly.

"No...it's okay, I accidentally cut my hand." Pei Yin put his left hand behind his back.

"Let me see..." She took Pei Yin's hand and looked at it carefully. There was a knife wound on the side of the ten fingers, which was a little red, and the blood stain had not been wiped clean.

"Come sit here!" Gu Cunxi pulled her out of the kitchen, pressed her shoulders and sat her on the sofa, then went to the bedroom and took out the medicine box.

"Let the poison dissipate first. It might be a little painful, just bear with it, Pei Pei."

"Um…"

The living room was filled with the smell of alcohol, which was a bit pungent. Gu Cunxi took a cotton swab and carefully wiped it on Pei Yin's wound. The moment she touched it, she shrank her hand slightly in pain.

Following Pei Yin's reaction, my heart gradually began to ache...

"What were you thinking about when you were cutting vegetables?" Gu Cunxi asked, with a hint of blame and heartache in his tone.

"I'm not thinking about anything..." Pei Yin shook his head and sighed slightly without leaving any trace.

The band-aid just covered the wounds on the sides of her ten fingers, and there was a cartoon bunny pattern on it, which made Pei Yin smile.

A 30-year-old still buys such a cute cartoon band-aid...

"Okay..." Gu Cunxi said as he put away the medicine box

"Thanks"

“…”

For a moment, the atmosphere in the living room froze. Gu Cunxi paused holding the medicine box. For some reason, the two words seemed to pull the two of them far apart.

Pei Yin was a little annoyed. She hadn't intended to say thank you. She didn't know why she blurted it out. Maybe she was angry with Cunxi because of what happened downstairs. Or maybe she was angry at herself for running away in a hurry.

"Just now... did you go out?" Gu Cunxi stood up and asked

Pei Yin was slightly startled, not knowing whether to tell her what she had just seen.

In Pei Yin's brief silence, Gu Cunxi knew the answer. She paused and asked

"Don't you have anything to ask me? Pei Pei"

"Yes..." Pei Yin looked up at her with gentle eyes

He was about to turn around and go back to the bedroom to put down the medicine box. When he heard Pei Yin's words, Gu Cunxi smiled with his back to him and turned around to sit down next to Pei Yin.

"You ask, I answer!"

Pei Yin paused and said, "It was raining heavily just now... I was worried about you being alone."

"So I wanted to go downstairs and wait for you."

"As a result, at the gate of the community..."

"You saw me with a woman at the gate of the community?"

"Hmm..." Pei Yin lowered his eyes and nodded.

Gu Cunxi smiled, raised his hand and pinched Pei Yin's cheek, sighed and said: "That woman also lives in this community, we have met twice before"

"I found the information she dropped in the underground garage and returned it to her."

"Later, we had a fight at the company dinner, and I got drunk and drove everywhere looking for you. I was desperate and tried every place I could think of, including Mingjiang Garden."

"But you weren't there. I ran out of the neighborhood and was about to go home to check on you, but I felt really bad in my stomach and started vomiting on the side of the road. That person happened to be passing by and handed me a bottle of water."

Pei Yin sat aside, listening quietly to Gu Cunxi's explanation to herself, folding her hands and gradually tightening them.

"The reason I brought her back with me was because we met at the supermarket entrance. I saw her trapped in the heavy rain, and then I heard her say that she also lived here, so we came back together."

"that's all!"

"I understand." Pei Yin nodded and said nothing more.

“…”

"So...are you angry with me because of what happened just now?" Gu Cunxi asked

She reached out and touched the wounds on Pei Yin's ten fingers, and continued thoughtfully: I just cut my finger...was it an accident, or were you thinking about something?

"It was...accidental."

Her intuition told her that this was not the case, but Pei Yin did not want to say it, and she did not want to ask further. It was just that Xiao Pei Yin made her feel a little guilty and helpless.

"Pei Pei..." Gu Cunxi put his arm around her shoulders and spoke softly.

"Why are you turning away?"

“Why don’t you just come forward?”

"Am I... not your girlfriend?"

The boiling water in the kitchen made a sharp sound from the kettle, breaking the brief silence in the living room.

"I'll turn it off." Gu Cunxi stood up and left

Pei Yin sat in the living room in a daze, biting her lips tightly. In fact, she was not angry with Gu Cunxi, but her heart was sour and sad. She should have stepped forward, and she was not the one who should hide away. However, her inferiority complex made her lack the courage. That woman just stood there like that. From a distance, she seemed more worthy of Gu Cunxi than herself...

"Here~ have some ginger tea, you got caught in the rain just now."

Coming out of the kitchen, she held two cups of ginger tea in her hands and handed one to Pei Yin.

"I'm not angry," Pei Yin said as he took the ginger tea.

"It's just... me"

Seeing Pei Yin hesitate to speak, Gu Cunxi raised his eyebrows in confusion.

"Cunxi, I'm not as good as others. I'm very ordinary. I..."

"What do you want to say?"

She interrupted Pei Yin's words, her eyes gradually darkened.

For a moment, the two of them were silent. She stood by the window, lost in thought, feeling a little annoyed. She didn't like Pei Yin's remarks, as if he was looking down on her. She also wondered if she hadn't done well enough to make her so anxious...

"Cunxi..."

Pei Yin's voice came to her ears. She just called her softly and said nothing else.

"You are you," Gu Cunxi said, his voice seemed to come from far away.

"What?" Pei Yin was stunned.

Gu Cunxi turned around and looked at her, saying word by word

"You don't need to be better than anyone else!"

“You don’t even have to do anything.”

"As long as you stand by my side, you will surpass everything!"

Gu Cunxi smiled and walked to Pei Yin's side, leaned over and kissed her forehead.

"Don't say things like that again!"

"I bought some spareribs and will make soup for you tonight."

After that, she turned and walked into the kitchen, leaving Pei Yin sitting on the sofa.

There was a sound of water in the kitchen. Pei Yin turned her head and looked over. Gu Cunxi's back was reflected in her eyes, looking lonely.

She suddenly realized that what she had said just now not only looked down on herself, but also looked down on Cunxi...

The softest part of my heart hurts...

She walked up quickly and put her hands tightly around her waist

"What's wrong?" Gu Cunxi paused and turned his head to speak gently.

She didn't say anything, but put her cheek on Cunxi's back and shook her head slightly.

Gu Cunxi smiled and stood there quietly, letting Pei Yin hold her for a long time.

"I'll help you."

The voice came from behind and fell into Gu Cunxi's ears. She reached out and held Pei Yinhuan's hand on her waist, turned around, and chuckled: You are a wounded person now, go to the living room and wait for me, you will be fine in a while.

"It's just a small cut, it's no big deal!" Pei Yin pursed his lips.

“I feel so bad!”

After that, Gu Cunxi picked up the washed fruit and handed it to Pei Yin, then pushed her out and closed the kitchen door.

“…”

The fruits were all her favorites. Pei Yin looked down at the fruit plate in her hand. She had cut them into small pieces and peeled them. She used various fruits to make a small heart in the middle of the plate. Every bit of it was Gu Cunxi's love. Although she hadn't eaten it yet, she could already feel the sweetness.
