Chapter 201 Greed
Momo glanced at Bian Xi's back before following Su He into the house.
Upon arriving in the living room, the girl immediately collapsed onto the sofa. Su He smiled, her eyes full of doting affection. "Take a rest. You must be exhausted from the journey. I'll go get you something to eat and drink to replenish your energy."
"Mom, no need to trouble yourself, I'm not hungry or thirsty right now." Momo sat up a little straighter and spoke to her.
"I just want to lie down."
"It's okay, it'll be done soon."
Suhe still insisted on going to the kitchen.
Momo didn't say anything more, after all, she could understand her mother's feelings.
Seeing that she had suddenly returned, I felt like I wanted to offer her something, as if being needed would give her some comfort.
With that thought in mind, Momo buried herself back into the sofa.
She stared intently at the house, which remained unchanged. It was so familiar, and she hadn't been gone for long, yet she felt as if she hadn't been back for ages.
Looking at this place, I was actually filled with a strong sense of nostalgia.
After looking around, the girl turned her gaze to the kitchen, an open-plan kitchen from which her slender yet powerful figure could be seen directly from the living room.
Momo stared at her mother's busy back for a while, and a warm feeling kept welling up in her heart.
My mother is such a smart person, she must have noticed something was wrong, but for some reason, she still didn't ask any more questions.
She returned without any luggage, not even the suitcase she had taken to Thailand, which her father had given her.
Mom knows for sure that no matter what, she would never abandon it.
The fact that she didn't bring it back with her today definitely means that her return trip from Thailand wasn't entirely normal.
Something must have happened.
And then there's Bian Xi.
She went to Thailand with Fu Yungui, but when she returned, Bian Xi was by her side.
How did Bian Xi, who had disappeared from this alley for so long, suddenly return, and appear with me the moment he came back?
In the eyes of those adults, their relationship had already broken down, so how could they possibly be here together?
Everything about it is illogical.
But Mom really didn't ask a single question.
It seems that just seeing her return safely is enough.
Thinking of this, Momo couldn't help but feel a lump in her throat.
"Mom..." Momo hugged her knees on the sofa and called out gently to the person on the other side.
"Hmm?" Su He still smiled and turned to look at her.
Momo's eyes were slightly red, but she still smiled gently at her and said, "I've missed you and Dad during this time."
Su He's smile remained gentle. "If your father knew you were back, he would be overjoyed."
“He mentioned you to me a few days ago and told me to come back soon.”
"However, he has a very important project in talks recently, and he probably won't be back for a few more days."
“We’ll call him tonight and ask him to come back as early as possible.”
Momo shook her head at her, "It's okay, Mom. Let's let Dad focus on his work first."
"If he knew I was back, he would definitely rush back."
"After all, in my father's heart, I am definitely the most important daughter."
The living room was bright and airy. The girl leaned against a white rug, looking languid, and even her tone of voice had returned to its previous playful and coquettish manner.
At home, she can always be her most authentic self; she doesn't need any pretense or tension.
Su He smiled and said, "Yes, then we'll fight again in a couple of days."
"Let me enjoy some time alone with you first."
After saying that, she turned back to her work.
Momo smiled and said, "Okay."
Then he just stayed there without moving, just watching her.
Every move she made was nothing more than the simplest of everyday family matters, but Momo watched it very attentively.
She was incredibly attached to this feeling; being by her mother's side, even just spacing out, was a kind of happiness.
Soon, Su He came out of the kitchen again, placed the things she was carrying on the dining table, and then waved to the person on the sofa, "Momo, come and have a simple meal first. Mom will cook something delicious for dinner later."
"Mm." Momo composed herself, smiled at her, and then quickly got up and walked towards the living room.
After sitting down, Su He pushed the food that had been laid out towards her and handed her chopsticks.
"Thank you, Mom." Momo obediently took it. Although she didn't have much of an appetite, she didn't find it unpleasant to eat.
It kept its mouth stuffed full, looking just like a little squirrel.
She had barely eaten anything these past few days because of her exhaustion and extreme emotional breakdown; she hadn't felt any hunger at all.
So I didn't even think about eating.
Now, the warm soup flows from my throat into my stomach, creating an indescribable feeling.
Only now did she seem to feel that she was truly alive.
"Slow down." Su He sat beside her the whole time, watching her with a smile on her face.
Momo nodded at her, her mouth already stuffed full, looking extremely cute.
Suhe stared at her face, a face almost devoid of color, and she couldn't imagine what she had gone through in Thailand.
But she didn't intend to ask, since she had been trying her best to pretend that nothing had happened in order to put her mind at ease.
As long as Momo is unwilling to talk about it, she can pretend she doesn't know.
She didn't want to see her troubled expression.
The meal lasted about twenty minutes. Momo kept her head down and ate in silence the whole time, while Su He just sat there watching.
No one said another word.
Momo, who had been keeping her head down, couldn't eat anymore. She looked up at her mother and suddenly smiled, "Mom, I'm full."
Su He was amused by her expression. "I didn't ask you to finish it all. You're such a silly girl."
Momo smiled and said, "I thought it tasted good, so I indulged."
Su He sighed and reached out to ruffle her hair. "Go upstairs and wash up and rest. I clean your room every day, it's very clean."
"I'll come find you after I've tidied up here."
Momo stood up. "Let me help you."
Su He refused decisively, "No need, you can go upstairs and get yourself ready first, Mom will be here soon."
Seeing her insistence, Momo didn't say anything more and had no choice but to obediently agree, "Okay."
He then left the living room and walked towards the staircase next to it.
