Chapter 11 What does she want to do with this group of people?
The brother and sister's carriage arrived at the gate of Gu Mansion in a blink of an eye.
Huang Fu received a message from the palace and learned that the princess was leaving, so he arrived at the gate of the mansion early to wait.
But the person who got off the carriage was Jiang Yu.
Huang Fu had never seen Jiang Yu before. He was stunned for a moment. Then he saw Jiang Yu stretch out her hand. A small white hand rested on his arm and she walked down from the carriage. It was Princess Jiang Xue.
Huang Fu led a group of servants and stepped forward to salute: "Your Highness is welcome to return home."
Jiang Xue said calmly, "Uncle Huang, please stand up. These are the servants I am used to using in the palace. Today, I am ordered by my mother to serve you in the palace."
She turned around and pointed at the group of people following the carriage and informed Huang Fu.
"From now on, all matters within this palace will be handled by the palace maids Xiaochun and Fudong."
Xiaochun and Fudong stepped forward and bowed slightly: "Butler Huang."
Huang Fu was stunned, obviously caught off guard.
I heard before the wedding that the princess did not bring palace maids into the mansion, and the young master left all the servants in the mansion to him. Why did this happen suddenly?
Is the princess dissatisfied with the servants in the Gu Mansion, or is she dissatisfied with the young master?
"Is dinner ready?" Jiang Xue asked again.
Huang Fu was in a daze and didn't reply for a long while. Xiaochun raised her voice and asked, "Butler Huang, His Highness asked if dinner is ready?"
Huang Fu came back to his senses and said hurriedly, "The kitchen is preparing it."
"Go and prepare some delicious dishes. My brother will also have dinner at the Gu Mansion today."
Jiang Xue gave Huang Fu a few instructions, then turned to Jiang Yu and said, "Follow me in, brother."
Royal brother? This is actually the second prince? Huang Fu immediately prostrated himself on the ground.
"Greetings, Second Prince. I am an old servant with poor eyesight. Please forgive me, Second Prince."
Jiang Yu's expression remained unchanged and he did not respond. Jiang Xue then said:
"You have just arrived in Beijing. It is normal that you do not recognize your brother. Ignorance is not a crime."
She said a few words of comfort, "Hurry up and prepare dinner."
Huang Fu kowtowed and knelt on the ground, waiting for the brother and sister to walk away before he stood up, wiped the sweat from his forehead, and hurried towards the study.
Gu Lintan had just returned from the Secretariat and was currently handling official business in his study.
Hearing the knock on the door, he quickly put the half-read letter into his sleeve and said in a deep voice, "Come in."
Huang Fu pushed the door open and walked in, then immediately turned around and closed the door, saying:
"Sir, the princess has returned home."
"I know. The palace maids passed on the message when I left the palace. Is there anything serious?"
"The second prince is here too," Huang Fu said. "He has gone to the East Courtyard with the princess."
What? Gu Lintan frowned. What was he doing here? Could the brother and sister have such a deep affection that they had to go to Gu's house to reminisce about the past?
"Got it. I'll be there right away."
"Sir, there is one more thing." Huang Fu said nervously, "There are more than a dozen palace maids accompanying the princess."
"She brought a palace maid back?!" Gu Lintan shouted in a low voice.
"There are six women and six men. Two of them were the princess's former maids, named Xiaochun and Fudong." Huang Fu said, "The rest should be ordinary maids and guards in the princess's palace."
Gu Lintan’s brows furrowed even more.
The palace had issued an edict earlier, and the emperor granted him a mansion, but allowed him to buy servants on his own.
At first he was very happy, thinking that Jiang Xue didn't even dare to put on airs in order to please him.
He purchased the servants for the Gu Mansion himself, which meant that all affairs in the mansion were under his supervision.
He had heard about Jiang Xue's romantic anecdotes in his early years. Who in the court didn't know that Princess Changle had an affair with the hostage from the Gan Kingdom?
After all, her reputation was damaged, so it was not surprising that she intended to please others before marriage. Gu Lintan once thought that the princess was easy to control.
But now, for some reason, she suddenly changed her attitude.
Gu Lintan asked, "Are you sure they are just ordinary palace maids and guards?"
Huang Fu replied: "Judging from the way they behave and dress, it should be correct. I guess the princess is just not used to using common servants."
Gu Lintan thought, I hope so.
"You go down first, I'll pack up and come back."
Huang Fu walked out of the door.
Gu Lintan waited until the door was closed, then took out the letter from his sleeve, read it for a while, and then burned it over the candle.
He pondered for a while, sorted out the documents on the desk, and then walked out of the study.
Over there, Jiang Yu followed Jiang Xue to the east courtyard of the Gu family and looked around.
This house was given by my father. The decoration of the courtyard is very grand and the scenery is unique. It can be seen that Gu Lintan had planned it carefully.
Jiang Xue turned around and whispered instructions to Xiaochun and Fudong.
"You two can go around first, and have someone clean up the vacant rooms. You two can live next to my Wenqingxuan, and Wu Anlang can live in the room at the entrance to the East Courtyard. You two can decide how to live in the rest of the rooms."
Xiaochun and Fudong nodded in agreement and walked away with their group.
Jiang Xue brought Jiang Yu into the hall and called the maid from the Gu residence to serve tea and snacks.
"Second brother, please wait for a moment. I'm afraid the prince consort will be here soon."
Jiang Yu nodded, picked up the teacup and blew it slowly.
As soon as Gu Lintan entered the East Courtyard, he saw a group of servants from the palace. Xiaochun stepped forward and saluted, saying:
"Greetings, Prince Consort. These are the maids and guards serving in Changle Palace. The Empress has compassion for the princess and has specially ordered us to come to the Gu Mansion to serve His Highness and Prince Consort."
Gu Lintan smiled and said, "You are too polite, young lady. Where are the princess and the second prince?"
"The two princes are in Wenqing Pavilion, and ordered us to go down and pack our luggage and find our place to stay first."
Gu Lintan still had a warm smile on his face and said, "Okay, I'll go and meet him. If you encounter any problems, just go find Huang Fu, the housekeeper."
After saying that, he strode towards Wen Qingxuan.
Xiaochun turned around and looked at Fudong, and they exchanged glances. This prince consort had a lot of smiles on his face, but he looked really unpleasant.
As Gu Lintan stepped into the hall, he felt Jiang Yu's sharp eyes looking at him.
He nodded to Jiang Xue: "Your Highness is back."
He immediately bowed and bowed.
"Lin Tan greets His Royal Highness the Second Prince."
Jiang Yu was not in a hurry to let him get up.
He picked up the teacup, narrowed his eyes, and looked at it carefully.
He is indeed handsome and has an extraordinary figure.
I heard that the essay this person wrote in the palace examination was so amazing that my father, the emperor, was very fond of it.
He not only has the looks of Pan An, but also great talent. He won the first place in the imperial examination and married the princess, and became the emperor's lover.
Isn't this kind of person the most popular new noble and favorite in the court?
"Don't be so polite, my dear husband. You and I are a family now."
Jiang Yu spoke lightly and then put down the teacup.
Seeing that both of them were sitting in the main seats, Gu Lintan stood up and stood aside, also quietly looking at Jiang Yu.
"What position does the Prince Consort hold in the court now?"
"I am the editor of the Hanlin Academy, writing for Your Majesty and am in charge of compiling the Veritable Records."
"I heard from my father that you also have a position in the Shangshutai?"
"Your Majesty has granted me the grace to become a disciple of the Minister of the Chancellery, Lord Lu. After my wedding, I will go to the Chancellery in my spare time to listen and learn."
His father actually asked him to study under his grandfather. Jiang Xue had a headache. He knew that his father had a good impression of him, but he didn't expect that he would favor him to this extent.
It seems that I can't delay my action any longer.
"What are you learning in the Shangshutai now?" Jiang Yu asked again.
"I have just started to go to the Ministry of Rites today to assist the Minister of Rites, Mr. Zhang, in handling some simple matters."
Gu Lin answered fluently on the surface, but he was sweating in his heart.
The brother and sister sat high up in the hall, but they did not take into account the face of the prince consort. They kept asking questions and did not even let him sit down.
Jiang Yu is a prince, and he cannot ignore the difference between the monarch and his subjects. However, Jiang Xue seems to want to intimidate him.
You know, he is her husband now!
Gu Lintan felt a little angry, but he didn't dare to say it.
What he was most worried about at the moment was not anything else, but whether what happened last night had aroused Jiang Xue's suspicion, causing her to behave so abnormally.
But he had no other choice but to respond carefully and try to appear calm.
Just as Jiang Yu was about to continue asking questions, Jiang Xue spoke instead.
"Royal brother, this is Prince Consort Gu's residence, not the military, why do you have to act like you are interrogating a general?"
Jiang Xue's charming smile especially emphasized the word "prince consort".
Jiang Yu took advantage of the situation and said, "Since my father values my son-in-law, you must be a man of extraordinary talent. If you can become a pillar of the Ji Dynasty and be my father's right-hand man, I will be relieved."
Gu Lintan said calmly, "I studied hard to repay my country. I am where I am today because of your majesty's appreciation and favor."
He looked at Jiang Xue with gratitude and said, "In the future, I will fulfill my duties and be a good subject to His Majesty and a good husband to the princess."
Jiang Xue sneered in her heart. This man deceived the emperor and even pointed a knife at her on their wedding night. If God hadn't given her a chance to start over, she would have become a wandering ghost by now!
Jiang Yu said casually: "Why is your Majesty standing all the time? Sit down quickly."
Gu Lintan nodded in agreement. As soon as he sat down, Huang Fu walked into the hall.
"Greetings, Your Highnesses."
Jiang Xue waved her hand to let him get up. He stood up and walked to Gu Lintan and whispered, "Sir, the famous doctor from Jiaodong is here to visit."
After saying that, he glanced at Jiang Xue and said, "It is said that the medicine for Her Royal Highness the Princess has been delivered."
