Chapter 39 First Meeting with Master

The little boy had run countless miles.

He fell repeatedly in the snow and rolled down the hillside, but he couldn't catch up with the man in the cloak.

As night fell, the little boy collapsed on the snow and began to cry, his cries becoming hoarse and desperate.

But there was no response.

In the snowy darkness of night, the little boy's face was red from the cold, filled with fear and helplessness.

But after he finished crying, he got up and comforted himself.

"Perhaps, Daddy really did go to buy toys."

"If I keep disobeying him, he might hit me again when he gets back..."

"I'm going to the temple now to wait for him to come back. If Father comes back and can't find me, he'll beat me again..."

Little Gu Jian struggled to his feet, and then, by the moonlight, he staggered back the way he came.

His little face was red from the cold, and his figure in the dark looked lonely and helpless.

Seeing all this, Ye Qingcheng covered her mouth, but she still couldn't help but cry out.

It was clear that the man in the cloak did not treat Gu Jian well and often physically punished him.

But he was still so well-behaved and sensible, so sensible that Ye Qingcheng felt heartache.

"How could there be such a heartless father in the world who would abandon his own child?"

Ye Qingcheng murmured to herself, her heart aching as she watched little Gu Jian stagger through the snow.

She watched him return to the dilapidated temple.

"Daddy will definitely come back and bring fun toys."

Back in the dilapidated temple, the little boy tried to comfort himself, encouraging himself while seemingly deceiving himself.

For the next few days, the little boy stayed in the dilapidated temple, watching the wind and snow, waiting for the man in the cloak to return.

By the third day, the dry rations were all gone.

But he is still waiting.

Still waiting.

It was as if by waiting like this, I could wait for my father.

If we keep waiting, we'll eventually meet him.

But a week later, the man in the cloak still hadn't returned.

The little boy's gaze gradually shifted from hope to despair.

On a snowy day, because there was nothing to eat, the little boy could only drink water from the melted snow.

He had no strength and lay helplessly on the ground every day.

He lay on the ground crying, and fell asleep when he was tired of crying.

In the middle of the night, he drifted off to sleep, only to be repeatedly startled awake.

He seemed to have had some nightmares, and continued to cry after waking up.

One moment she's crying out, "Daddy, don't hit me!" and the next she's crying out, "Daddy, don't abandon me!"

Half a month has passed in the blink of an eye.

Because there was nothing to eat, the little boy had become skin and bones.

He had already realized that he had been completely and ruthlessly abandoned by his father.

He didn't even have the strength to stand up; he just lay in the dilapidated temple, staring blankly out the door.

He is still waiting.

But what awaits may no longer be Father.

It was the cold wind.

Waiting for the cold wind to take him away.

I hope that in my next life I won't be a child abandoned by my closest relatives.

The cold wind howled, and the three-year-old child waited alone for death to come.

Time passed, and I don't know how much time went by.

A woman with an ethereal air walked slowly into the dilapidated temple and gradually came into the boy's view.

Seeing all this, Ye Qingcheng burst into tears again.

Because that is herself.

It's finally here!

"It's been so long since I arrived? I thought Jian'er had only been hungry for three days. But it's been this long."

Ye Qingcheng muttered to herself, then looked back at the Heaven-Mending Divine Mirror.

Because of the varying flow rates within the Heaven-Mending Mirror, one can also fast-forward the scene using their own thoughts.

The little Gu Jian in the divine mirror spent half a month in the dilapidated temple.

Ye Qingcheng only had less than the time it takes for an incense stick to burn.

But Ye Qingcheng could still sense Gu Jian's despair and helplessness at that time.

A moment later, Ye Qingcheng heard herself in the Heaven-Mending Mirror talking to Xiao Gu Jian.

"What's your name?"

“I am Gu… Jian.”

"You have excellent aptitude, a rare martial arts prodigy. I would like to take you as my disciple. Would you be willing?"

"Will we be able to get a full meal?"

Ye Qingcheng said, "That's fine."

"Alright, big sister..."

"Call me Master."

"Yes, Master..."

A moment later, Ye Qingcheng in the mirror lit a fire and fed Xiao Gu Jian a drop of spiritual dew.

The little Gu Jian, whose body was so weak from hunger, had gained a glimmer of life.

Ye Qingcheng took out some dry food for him to eat.

Watching him devour the steamed bun, Ye Qingcheng asked again, "Why are you here all alone and so hungry? Where are your parents?"

The little boy burst into tears, which dripped onto the steamed bun. He then said, "Father...I got separated from you."

Ye Qingcheng looked at him in the mirror but said nothing more.

He has been cultivating for nearly a thousand years.

She had witnessed too much human suffering.

She realized it was a tiny child, abandoned by his closest relatives.

"Come with me, I will not abandon you."

"Thank you, Master. Please accept my bow."

After regaining some strength, young Gu Jian kowtowed to Ye Qingcheng.

Seeing this scene, Ye Qingcheng was deeply moved.

She knew that Gu Jian would treat her so well afterward because of this day.

Ye Qingcheng hadn't paid any attention to it before.

But at this moment, through the Moon Goddess Mirror that mends the sky.

She could clearly see a range of emotions in the sensible eyes of young Gu Jian.

She took him in as her disciple casually, but in his heart it was like a second life.

Ye Qingcheng was puzzled.

Why is my reflection in the mirror not as gentle as I imagined?

It seems that taking Gu Jian as his disciple was not to help him.
