Chapter 5: Haunted Hill House (5)
Yan Shixun did not open the door for Zhang Wubing outside immediately.
The knocking on the door and Zhang Wubing's anxious cries for help continued.
He slowly got up from the bed, and as soon as he looked up, he was facing the mirror in the bathroom. In the dark room, only the screen of his mobile phone, which he had just turned on to check the time, was emitting a faint light, illuminating half of his face from bottom to top.
At this moment, reflected in the mirror, at first glance it looks like a terrifying and hideous ghost face floating in the air.
Yan Shixun, who had just woken up, was suddenly confronted with such a face, and his hand that was about to lift the quilt paused.
But he was not scared. Instead, he raised his eyebrows, touched his chin and nodded in praise: "Not bad, very handsome."
When Yan Shixun walked slowly to the door without any hurry, Zhang Wubing outside the door had already started pounding on the door anxiously. The "bang! bang!" sounds seemed to hit the heart of a living person.
"Are you sick?" Yan Shixun asked lazily.
"Yes, Brother Yan, it's me. I'm sick." The person outside the door finally heard the answer and quickly responded: "Brother Yan, please come out and take a look. What should I do?"
Yan Shixun sneered softly: "No hurry. Before that, I'm sick..."
"Do you remember that before you came here, you said you would call me daddy?" He said seriously, "Call me now, and I will leave if you do."
The people outside the door probably didn't expect Yan Shixun to make such a request at such an emergency moment when lives were at stake. They were choked for a moment and didn't know how to answer.
When he spoke again, the person outside the door was obviously a little angry: "Brother Yan, stop joking, you..."
"Do I look like I'm kidding? Didn't we say in college that if anyone jokes, his descendants for eighteen generations will be blinded."
Yan Shixun retorted righteously and in a distressed tone: "It really breaks your heart to see you so sick."
The person outside the door: “…”
Zhang Wubing and Yan Shixun were roommates in college. Due to Zhang Wubing's physical condition, he would often come across unclean things.
Once, Zhang Wubing was screaming so loudly in the dormitory that he disturbed Yan Shixun's sleep, so he impatiently helped Zhang Wubing.
From then on, Zhang Wubing hugged Yan Shixun's thigh diligently. Not to mention calling him dad, he would even call him ancestor without hesitation. As long as he could save his life, he could brag about everything.
Zhang Wubing sees this travel variety show as the first step towards realizing his dream.
The inexplicable disappearance of a guest is a huge blow to a live broadcast program that is just starting out, and Zhang Wubing will not let his hard work be ruined like this.
If the person outside the door was really Zhang Wubing, I'm afraid that as soon as Yan Shixun uttered the word "Dad", Zhang Wubing would shout "Dad" hundreds of times in one breath, which would make Yan Shixun feel comfortable.
But the people outside the door obviously couldn't accept this joke which is very common to modern young people.
When Yan Shixun called himself "Dad", he could clearly hear the person outside the door making a "huhu" sound as if it was squeezed out of the throat, which sounded very angry.
Taking advantage of this time, Yan Shixun quickly called Zhang Wubing.
No cell phone rang outside the door.
When the call was just picked up, Yan Shixun hung up the phone and sent a message to Zhang Wubing: [Did you come to see me?]
Zhang Wubing, who had just been woken up by a phone call from Yan Shixun, was obviously not in the right state. He was confused for a long time before replying: [It's late at night, why am I looking for Brother Yan when I'm not sleeping? Besides, Brother Yan, didn't you tell me to sleep well at night and not open the door? ]
Yan Shixun knew from Zhang Wubing's reaction that Zhang Wubing had no idea that a guest was missing, and it was probably made up by the thing outside the door to trick him into opening the door.
But to be on the safe side, Yan Shixun still asked Zhang Wubing: [There is no camera facing the inside of the villa on the video platform. Please give me the live camera footage of the villa interior.]
Zhang Wubing was a little puzzled when he received the message. He had specially adjusted the camera angle before leaving the living room and left two people to guard it, so how could it be missing?
But when he switched the tablet to the backstage of the program team, he was shocked to find that the live broadcast camera was pitch black, and even the light from the living room was not reflected in the camera.
The dark screen reflected a face without any disease, which frightened him so much that he broke out in a cold sweat and woke him up from his half-asleep state.
[Brother Yan, there is nothing in the live broadcast camera. I sent a message to the two staff members who stayed there but they didn’t respond. What should I do?]
Zhang Wubing thought about what Yan Shixun had said and the fact that he had just called him to wake him up but instead sent a message to communicate. Although he was a little anxious, he barely suppressed his eagerness to call the two staff members to confirm the situation.
He was in the room, with the door locked, but the two staff members were not there.
Not knowing what was outside and whether the ringing of the cell phone would cause any harm, he did not act rashly. Instead, he listened to Brother Yan and followed him as he had done for many years, and he would definitely be able to survive.
Yan Shixun stood behind his door, holding his breath and listening attentively to the sounds outside.
It was silent outside the door.
It was as if the thing that had just pretended to be Zhang Wubing and knocked on the door had realized that its disguise had failed after being fooled by Yan Shixun, and it just left.
Yan Shixun walked quickly to the window and looked out.
It was exactly 1 o'clock in the middle of the night. The deep darkness enveloped the entire Guishan Mountain. There was not even a light around the villa. One could not see outside clearly, and one could not tell where one was.
It was as if it was completely abandoned in the darkness. The cold, inorganic eyes all around opened, staring lifelessly at the window, ready to devour anyone.
[Since you only paid for the villa when booking it, you should still only pay for it now. Remember to add the money for my daily work.]
Yan Shixun's slender fingers quickly fell on the screen: [Don't leave the room before dawn. Even if I die at your door, don't open it.]
After sending the last message, Yan Shixun turned and walked towards the door. As he walked, he grabbed the small bag on the bed and threw it over his shoulder with one hand.
Then, he opened the door.
"Squeak---"
As the door opened, a ray of cold light shone in through the increasingly widening gap and fell on Yan Shixun's handsome and unrestrained face.
The young man hooked the shoulder strap of the backpack with one hand and raised the other hand. He inserted his five fingers into his black hair which was a little messy due to sleep and slowly pushed the loose hair back.
Yan Shixun's eyes, filled with excitement, were clearly and completely revealed.
He raised his light red lips into a smile and hummed a tuneless tune.
"Good little rabbit..."
"Open the door..."
"Open up quickly, let me see what you are..."
…
Zhang Yan is a designer who works overtime all year round.
In order to stimulate inspiration, she often reverses day and night, starting work in the afternoon, and is used to using a tablet to watch something as a background while working.
That day, as usual, she opened the video platform before work and selected a video suitable as a background.
A new show squeezed in the corner caught her attention.
This is a live travel program in which a tour guide takes eight guests from Binhai City to travel around some non-popular attractions in the country. The purpose is to bring the audience a pleasant and relaxing experience and let them feel the slow-paced life.
As soon as Zhang Yan turned on the program, the lush trees of Guishan Mountain came into view.
The mountain forest surrounded by white mist was quiet and leisurely, as if it was a place forgotten by time outside the human world, and it immediately captured Zhang Yan's heart.
She clicked on the big screen to play and turned off the sound, put the tablet aside, and then lowered her head to work with satisfaction.
It was already midnight when Zhang Yan finished her work. She let out a breath, rubbed her shoulders and looked up.
Then, he was faced with a hideous face covered in blood on the tablet.
“Ahhhhhh!!!”
Zhang Yan let out a shrill scream.
The colleagues around were also frightened by the sudden shout and immediately ran over to ask.
Zhang Yan was so frightened that her face turned pale. She raised her hand tremblingly and pointed at the live broadcast screen on the tablet: "Ghost, ghost..."
When my colleagues looked up, they almost suffered cardiopulmonary arrest.
"Fuck!"
"What the fuck is this?"
The same question has also spread on a small scale on social networking sites and forums.
At first it was just a discussion among fans.
Some true fans watched the live broadcast until midnight, and said that if their brother/sister slept on the show, they would also sleep with their mobile phones in their arms, which is equivalent to sleeping together.
Then, they all saw a hideous and terrifying face that did not look like a living person appearing in the live broadcast.
The terrified fans posted updates on social networks and sent messages to their respective fan groups to talk about the incident.
But the person who finally ignited this topic was a big V who specializes in analyzing variety shows.
@爱看节目同饭的鹅哥: I was so wrong. A few hours ago, I shouldn't have posted a message to criticize and ridicule the show "Heart-beating Around the World 99 Days". Now my retribution has come... But it came too fast! I saw a ghost in the middle of the night! Fuck, how can I sleep at night?
The emotional post of the big V and the nine consecutive live screenshots made many night owls who were still awake click on the pictures curiously.
Then I was so scared by the bloody and pale face that I almost threw my phone away.
"What the hell is this?"
"Ghost! Ghost!! Mom, I want to go home and I don't want to play anymore."
"There's no ghost here, is this a prank?"
"Is this program sick? Putting on such a scary show in the middle of the night? Report it."
"It's so realistic, is it actually a prank?"
"You can find out if it's true by watching it. Didn't Brother Goose already post the name of the show?"
"You guys are so naive, in my opinion, this is definitely fake. Put a sticker on the camera, and then ask Goose Brother to promote it, wouldn't the show be popular this way? This is reverse publicity."
But no matter what people who saw this post said, they were indeed scared by the face in the screenshot that didn't look like a living person at all.
Driven by curiosity or anger, these people flocked to the live broadcast room of the show.
However, many people's fierce insults were stuck in their throats, and their anger at the program's pranks and fooling people was completely silenced.
Everyone who rushed into the live broadcast felt their scalps go numb with fear the moment they opened the screen.
They spoke in unison, but only the most primitive fear remained.
"Fuck!"
“Ghost!!!”
