Chapter 102 A Ruthless Man

Chapter 102 A Ruthless Man

"Mother, don't worry. Sister Zhang is kind and very intelligent. She will have a good life ahead of her," Du Wanchun whispered to her.

Aunt Zhou sighed and nodded, "That's right."

Zhou Feng and Zhou Zhao didn't dare to say anything and carried the vegetables that had fallen to the ground into the house.

Zhou Ruiyuan was more conscientious than the others; he had taken the hoe and other tools to the backyard as soon as Zhang Qiuhe left.

Meanwhile, Zhang Qiuhe brought her child home and quickly started a fire to prepare a meal for the child.

She took a bowl, scooped a spoonful of millet from the rice container, put it into a pot, added some water, covered the pot, and started cooking.

The rice had just started cooking when the child next to me started crying again.

Zhang Qiuhe quickly looked down and saw that the egg in his hand had fallen. She immediately picked it up, peeled a new one, and handed it to him, while she ate the egg that had just fallen on the ground.

Just then, someone knocked on the door.

During the daytime, when the widow and her child are at home, they always keep the door closed.

After all, a weak woman with no strength to even kill a chicken would be in dire straits if she encountered bandits or something similar.

Just to be on the safe side, Zhang Qiuhe looked out the window. "Who is it?!"

A man dressed in a blue robe walked up and said, "Qiuhe, it is I, Shengyuan."

Zhang Qiuhe looked closely and realized that this was none other than Liu Shengyuan, the heartless man she had just been cursing.

She turned around, grabbed a club, opened the door, and slammed it down on him, yelling, "You beast, how dare you come back!"

Liu Shengyuan quickly reached out and took the hoe from her hand, saying, "Qiuhe, don't be like this, Qiuhe, I have my own difficulties!"

After saying that, he pulled Zhang Qiuhe into the house and closed the door again.

Zhang Qiuhe pointed at him and cursed, "Difficulties? What difficulties could you possibly have? Could it be that Miss Mo knows you have a wife and is forcing you to marry her?"

Liu Shengyuan nodded and said, "Yes, that's right. I told the second young lady of the Mo family that I had a wife and children, but she wouldn't listen. She even said that if I didn't marry her, she would send people to tie you and your children up!"

In the past, Zhang Qiuhe would have believed his words, but now she doesn't believe a word of them.

If he truly cared about their marriage, he wouldn't have ignored her for three years.

When he left, he knew she was pregnant and when she was due to give birth.

However, he never came back to see her even once.

She gave birth to the child in this dilapidated house and cut the umbilical cord herself.

"Liu Shengyuan, don't even think about lying to me. Should I go and confront Miss Mo right now?" Zhang Qiuhe said, then suddenly stood up and tried to walk out.

Liu Shengyuan pulled her back again and said, "Alright, stop fooling around!"

Hearing this, Zhang Qiuhe was certain and completely disappointed in the man in front of her. She calmed down and said, "Liu Shengyuan, don't worry, I won't beg you to come back. But you can't abandon your son. I can starve to death, but I can't let him starve to death!"

As Liu Shengyuan listened, he looked up at his son, who was still not very talkative, with a hint of hatred in his eyes.

He turned to Zhang Qiuhe and smiled, "Qiuhe, don't be like this. Of course I will raise my own son. Don't worry, I won't abandon you and your son here. You can wait here for now. After I've established myself in the Mo family, I'll bring you and your son over to enjoy a better life."

As she spoke, she took out a box of pastries from her bosom and placed it on the table. "I was in a hurry when I came out and didn't bring much with me. I specially bought some famous pastries from Cheng'an County. You and the youngest son can try them."

As he spoke, he took out a piece of pastry and placed it in the little child's hand.

The little child had never seen such exquisite pastries before, and was reluctant to take a bite while holding them in his hands.

For some reason, Zhang Qiuhe suddenly felt something was wrong. She slapped the pastry out of the child's hand and angrily said, "Get out! Get out of here! We won't eat your food!"

Seeing that she was still angry, Liu Shengyuan tapped the table with pastries on it, stood up and said, "Alright, I won't bother you today. I'll come back in a few days."

After saying that, he kicked the small stool on the ground with a look of disgust, opened the door and left.

Zhang Qiuhe was so angry that she was trembling all over. She rushed to the door and didn't forget to curse a few more times.

After Liu Yuansheng left, Zhang Qiuhe picked up the plate of pastries and dumped them all in the backyard for the chickens to eat.

That chicken was a gift from the Zhou family; they kept it to lay eggs.

Zhang Qiuhe turned around angrily to go back, but before she could leave, the round old hen, after eating the pastries on the ground, foamed at the mouth and collapsed on the ground.

She was startled and, after a moment of stunned silence, quickly squatted down and touched the old hen, only to find that it was dead.

Zhang Qiuhe was shocked and couldn't help but exclaim, "Poisonous! This pastry is poisonous!"

After she finished speaking, she suddenly remembered the piece of pastry that she had knocked off the ground and rushed into the house.

Her youngest son bent down and picked up the pastries from the ground, about to put them in his mouth.
