Chapter 157 Enjoying a Feast with Mother-in-Law
"Come on, Wanchun, let me take you to eat something delicious. I've heard that the braised lion's head meatballs at this restaurant are really good." Aunt Zhou pulled Du Wanchun into the restaurant.
The restaurant has three floors, and it's full of customers.
Du Wanchun was dazzled by what she saw.
Aunt Zhou pulled her directly into a private room. "Wanchun, we rarely get to come out today, so please eat whatever you like."
Du Wanchun sat down and looked out the window, watching the people coming and going downstairs, feeling somewhat peculiar.
Just then, the waiter arrived. "Gentlemen, what would you like to eat?"
After thinking for a moment, Aunt Zhou said, "Bring up all the signature dishes of your restaurant."
The waiter sized them up and, seeing their simple attire, whispered, "Esteemed guests, our restaurant's signature dishes are not cheap."
Aunt Zhou frowned, "Go ahead and do it, we can afford the money."
After saying that, he took out a few copper coins from his pocket as a tip.
The waiter took it and said with a smile, "Okay, sir, please wait a moment, the dish will be served shortly."
After saying that, he bent over, turned around, and left the private room.
Aunt Zhou smiled and said, "It's true that money makes things easier."
Du Wanchun poured her a glass of water. "Mother, this meal today will probably cost a lot of money."
Aunt Zhou took the kettle from her hand and poured her a cup of water as well. "As long as you want to eat, it's worth the money."
Du Wanchun picked up the cup, took a sip of water, and smiled, her eyes crinkling, "Thank you, Mother."
Seeing the smile on her face, Aunt Zhou was also happy.
Before long, the waiter brought out the dishes: first rice cakes, then osmanthus almond milk, and then the main dishes, braised lion's head meatballs and scallion oil chicken.
Du Wanchun had been strolling around with Aunt Zhou all morning and was indeed a little hungry, so she picked up a braised lion's head with her chopsticks and started eating.
Aunt Zhou was even happier watching her eat so heartily than she was eating herself. She picked up a piece of her favorite chicken leg with her chopsticks and said, "Eat slowly, no rush. Tell me what else you want to eat later."
Du Wanchun also put a chicken leg on her plate.
The way Aunt Zhou looked at her was even gentler than when she looked at her own three sons.
She looked down at the food in her bowl, her face full of a happy smile, and countless times she felt grateful that she had such a good daughter-in-law.
Just as Du Wanchun was finishing her meal, a commotion suddenly broke out in the private room next door.
"What are you doing here? Get out of here! Get out!"
Then came a woman's cries: "You heartless bastard! You took my money and lived a life of luxury while leaving me stranded on the street!"
Aunt Zhou recognized the voice and said to Du Wanchun, "Wanchun, you eat first, I'll go take a look."
Du Wanchun nodded slightly, "Yes, Mother, you can go now."
Aunt Zhou got up and walked towards the door of the private room next door, where she saw a middle-aged woman lying on the ground with her face covered in bruises.
Even though the woman's face was covered in injuries, she still recognized her at a glance.
"Granny Zhuang!"
Aunt Zhou called out to her.
The woman looked up at her when she heard the sound, her eyes widening in astonishment.
Aunt Zhou rushed to her side, helped her up, and asked, "Granny Zhuang, what are you doing here?"
The woman's eyes were filled with shock, and she froze on the spot.
Aunt Zhou looked around and saw that the door to the private room in front of her was closed, so she quickly pulled her into her own private room.
Upon seeing the two women enter, Du Wanchun quickly stood up and asked, "Mother, who is this?"
Aunt Zhou pulled the woman to sit down and said, "This is Granny Zhuang, who delivered my baby before."
Granny Zhuang used to be a member of the Lu family. She followed Madam Lu for many years. Later, Madam Lu was afraid that her daughter would be persecuted if she entered the palace, so she specially arranged for Granny Zhuang to learn the skills of midwifery and enter the palace with Granny Zhou.
He helped take care of Aunt Zhou's three children and was considered Aunt Zhou's confidant for many years.
