Chapter 171 Arriving at the Zhu Family's Land
Du Wanchun and Aunt Zhou took the land deed and went home.
They had barely arrived home when the Third Prince came to greet them. "How did it go? Did you sell the Zhu family's land?"
Aunt Zhou took out the two land deeds and said with a smile, "Sold, look."
The Third Prince quickly came over to take a look. Upon seeing the land deed in her hand, he was overjoyed. "This is wonderful! I'll find a bricklayer tomorrow to build the house. It's already autumn, so we must finish building the house before winter."
Aunt Zhou smiled and said, "Okay, we can find Xiao He who built my house last time. He's not only skilled, but also honest and reliable."
The Third Prince thought for a moment and nodded, saying, "I'll do whatever you say."
At this moment, Zhou Ruiyuan, who was inside the house, also heard the noise. He quickly walked over to Du Wanchun, helped her up, and said, "You must be tired today?"
Du Wanchun shook her head and said, "I'm not tired. Going for a walk makes me feel much more energetic."
Zhou Ruiyuan originally didn't plan for her to go, but Du Wanchun suggested going out for a walk, so he agreed.
Du Wanchun then added, "By the way, Aunt Zhu also gave us a piece of land. When I have some free time, we can go and take a look."
Zhou Ruiyuan nodded slightly, "Yes, but you shouldn't go with her. Just stay home with your mother."
Du Wanchun knew that Zhou Ruiyuan wouldn't let her go to the fields, so she didn't insist on going. "Alright, you and the Third Prince should be careful and not run into any snakes in the fields."
Although it is already autumn, you can still occasionally see one or two snakes in the mountains.
Zhou Ruiyuan helped her into the house and said softly, "Yes, don't worry, we'll be careful."
Du Wanchun slowly walked into the house, where she saw a pot of hot soup already laid out on the table.
It's a boiled egg in sweet water.
It smells delicious from afar.
Du Wanchun asked Zhou Ruiyuan, "Did Third Uncle make this?"
Zhou Ruiyuan took out a spoon and handed it to her, "Yes, he thinks about what to cook for you and Mom every day."
Du Wanchun took a spoonful and smiled, "Third Uncle is really thoughtful."
Zhou Ruiyuan frowned slightly and said, "I mean it, but I'm just worried that if we go back in the future, Mother and Third Uncle won't be able to do this anymore."
Du Wanchun blew on the soup in her bowl, "That's not necessarily true. Maybe Mother and Third Uncle can get married."
Zhou Ruiyuan was slightly taken aback, then his expression softened and he said, "That's right. My mother has had a hard life all these years. It would be good if someone could take care of her."
As he spoke, he took out a food box, opened the lid, took out a pastry, and handed it to her, saying, "This is what my third uncle brought back last time; there are still some left."
Du Wanchun looked up and saw that this was the portion that Aunt Zhou was holding. It seemed that she hadn't eaten any of it and had left it all for herself.
As she looked at it, she felt a surge of emotion. Aunt Zhou was right; she really did treat her like her own daughter.
She's been married into the family for so long, and no matter what good things there are, Aunt Zhou always gives them to her first, afraid that she won't eat or dress well.
I was afraid she would be wronged.
Du Wanchun picked up a pastry and took a bite. It was sweet, and she felt that nothing on the mountain was sweeter than this.
After Du Wanchun finished eating, Zhou Ruiyuan led the Third Prince to the land belonging to Aunt Zhu.
Aunt Zhu's land had long been abandoned and was overgrown with weeds.
The Third Prince, holding a hoe, said, "This land is good, but it will take time to weed it."
Zhou Ruiyuan walked closer to the haystack. "It's alright. Although there's a lot of grass here, it's not deep. We should be able to clear it all in just one afternoon."
The Third Prince gripped his hoe and walked inside. "Alright, let's begin."
Normally, when the Third Prince is in the capital, he has three or four people serving him. Now that he has to weed by himself, it is really tiring.
If he weren't afraid of revealing the identities of Aunt Zhou and her son, he would have already called his servants to clear all the weeds here.
After working for a while, the Third Prince was also covered in sweat. "It's better that Zhao'er is here. He could probably clear all the weeds by himself."
Zhou Ruiyuan wiped the sweat from his forehead and laughed, "Third brother is full of energy. I wonder how he's doing outside the Great Wall!"
The Third Prince suddenly remembered something, stood up and said, "By the way, a couple of days ago your uncle sent me a letter, it seems to say that Zhao'er has made military achievements."
Zhou Ruiyuan was overjoyed, "This is a good thing. The sooner we earn military merit, the sooner we can go back."
The prince looked around and said, "But don't tell your mother about this."
Zhou Ruiyuan asked, "What's wrong?"
The Third Prince said slowly, "Zhao'er's military achievements this time were hard-won, and she suffered a serious injury."
Zhou Ruiyuan frowned and quickly asked, "A serious injury? How is he now?"
The Third Prince comforted him, saying, "Don't worry, he's fine now. It was just lucky; he was hit by an arrow, but it just happened to miss a vital spot."
Zhou Ruiyuan breathed a sigh of relief. "Indeed, we can't let Mother know, otherwise she'll worry again."
The Third Prince nodded.
As the two were talking, a snake suddenly darted out of the bushes.
Zhou Ruiyuan exclaimed in surprise, "Watch out, there might be a snake!"
