Chapter 183 A New Witness Arrives
Upon seeing the newcomer, Magistrate Li quickly asked, "And who is this young lady?"
The woman looked behind her and said, "Sir, I'm here to see my sister."
“Sister?” Magistrate Li looked at the woman in front of him. She looked to be about the same age as him, but she was very thin.
The woman lowered her head, her eyes somewhat vacant. "Yes, my sister is Lady Liu, who used to run a rouge shop."
Magistrate Li was startled. "You're Liu Xiangxiang?"
The woman nodded.
More than ten years ago, Magistrate Li had met Liu Xiangxiang. Upon hearing her say this, he took a closer look and found that it was indeed true.
Magistrate Li hurriedly welcomed her in, saying, "Quickly, come in!"
Liu Xiangxiang, carrying her luggage, walked inside, her body trembling.
Magistrate Li brought her to Lady Liu.
When Lady Liu saw Magistrate Li bring in a woman, she was startled, but she quickly recognized her as her sister, Liu Xiangxiang. After a few seconds of stunned silence, she strode up to Liu Xiangxiang and asked, "Sister, is that you?"
Liu Xiangxiang rushed forward and hugged her tightly. "Little sister, it's me."
Lady Liu hugged her and cried.
The two sisters are not much different in age, but one looks like she is in her forties or fifties, while the other looks like she is in her thirties.
Lady Liu was heartbroken and cried as she said, "Sister, where have you been all these years? I've been looking for you everywhere!"
Liu Xiangxiang also started to cry. She slowly released Liu Niangzi and said with her head down, "For all these years, I have been living in a small village. Later, I heard that your rouge shop caught fire, so I came here to see."
Wiping away her tears, Lady Liu said, "Although the rouge shop is gone, my life has been saved."
Liu Xiangxiang was overjoyed and smiled, "That's good. I'm relieved to see you're alright."
Magistrate Li had his maids quickly pour her tea and then prepared some food.
Liu Xiangxiang looked as if she hadn't eaten for several days; she was pale and thin.
Lady Liu led her to the front room and invited her to eat.
Liu Xiangxiang was initially quite polite, but she was so hungry that she couldn't resist the aroma and started eating with her chopsticks.
After she had finished eating, Magistrate Li dismissed all the servants in the room.
Lady Liu understood his meaning and walked to Liu Xiangxiang's side, asking, "Sister, do you still remember the brocade pouch you left here with me?"
Liu Xiangxiang was taken aback, lowered her eyes slightly, and nodded, saying, "I remember, you've seen what's on it?"
Lady Liu nodded and said, "I've seen it, sister. Is what it says true?"
Liu Xiangxiang's eyes darted away, seemingly unwilling to speak. "Sister, that's a matter for the palace; you don't need to concern yourself with it."
Lady Liu frowned and slowly said, "Sister, I've seen everything in there. How could it not have anything to do with me? Besides, Consort Wu has already been banished to the Cold Palace. We're not afraid of her at all."
Of course, Liu Xiangxiang's eyes were still full of fear. "That's not how it is, sister. Now that you've found your Mr. Right, just live a good life with Magistrate Li and don't interfere in these matters."
Magistrate Li, who was listening nearby, sensed that something was definitely amiss.
Just as Lady Liu said, Consort Wu has now been banished to the Cold Palace, so Liu Xiangxiang shouldn't be so afraid.
Unless the person she's afraid of isn't Consort Wu at all.
Magistrate Li's face darkened. He slowly walked to Liu Xiangxiang's side, poured her a cup of tea, and asked, "Is Madam Liu hiding something from us?"
He still addressed her respectfully as Madam Liu.
Liu Xiangxiang lowered her head even further. "Lord Li, what I know is what I wrote in my letter. You have all seen it, so naturally I have nothing to hide from you."
Upon hearing this, Lady Liu quickly changed the subject, saying, "Never mind, if you don't know, you don't know."
As she spoke, she softened her voice to comfort Liu Xiangxiang, saying, "Sister, since you're here, why don't you stay for a few days? It would be perfect if we sisters could catch up."
Liu Xiangxiang was clearly tempted.
Lady Liu quickly continued, "Sister, I have no relatives left, only you."
Hearing her younger sister's words, Liu Xiangxiang softened and nodded, saying, "Alright, I'll stay here for a few more days."
Lady Liu was overjoyed, "That's wonderful!"
Magistrate Li didn't press the matter further, and the next day, he immediately went to the Zhou family.
Inside the Zhou family home, Zhou Ruiyuan was pacing back and forth in the room, holding his youngest daughter in his arms.
Du Wanchun lay half-reclined on the bed and smiled at him, "Husband, she's asleep, so put her down."
