Chapter 195 The Emperor's Protection

Chapter 195 The Emperor's Protection

With the arrival of Nanfeng Ling, the incense at Zhou's shop sold out again.

Du Wanchun happened to be in the shop that day. She smiled and asked Nan Fengling, who had come to buy incense, "Miss, will you be able to use up all this incense?"

Nan Fengling sat down with a smile and said slowly, "These are not for my own use; they were purchased by someone else on my behalf."

Hearing her say that, Du Wanchun tentatively asked her again, "Where are you from, young lady? If you need anything in the future, we can send it directly to you."

Nan Fengling thought it sounded good, "That seems nice, can you really deliver it to us?"

Du Wanchun nodded.

Nan Fengling pulled her along and said with a smile, "That's wonderful."

Looking at her innocent smile, Du Wanchun found herself very compatible with this girl who was only two years younger than her. "Miss, you can leave your name and address. Whenever you need incense, just ask someone to let us know, and we will send it to you."

Nan Fengling smiled and nodded. "My name is Nan Fengling. You can deliver the items to the Crown Prince's residence in Chengzhou."

Upon hearing her introduce herself, Du Wanchun quickly asked, "Miss, are you from the State of Cheng Zhou?"

Nan Fengling, being rather naive, glanced around and whispered while blinking, "Yes, sister, please don't let anyone else know."

Although Xuan Yue Kingdom and Cheng Zhou Kingdom are on good terms, it would not be good if someone were to find out that this dignified princess was living in this small village.

Du Wanchun replied softly, "Okay."

Seeing how easygoing Du Wanchun was, Nan Fengling got along with her better and better. He originally planned to buy incense and go back, but who knew that he would stay here for more than ten days.

Fortunately, Cheng'an County was located near Chengzhou State, making it convenient for her to travel there and back.

Inside the capital, the Third Prince, accompanied by assassins and a letter, found the Emperor overnight.

The emperor was stunned to see the Third Prince suddenly return. "Third brother, why have you come back so suddenly?"

The Third Prince quickly said, "I accidentally ran into them on my way back from Qingzhou Prefecture."

The assassins all lowered their heads.

Even the emperor noticed something amiss.

The Third Prince continued, "I thought they looked like palace guards, so I arrested them all. I thought they were just guards who had escaped from the palace, but I didn't expect them to be assassins."

"Assassins?" The emperor paused, looking at the group with a grave expression.

The Third Prince then handed him the letter in his hand, saying, "Brother, look, these are the things we found in their possession."

Upon seeing this, the emperor's expression darkened slightly.

He asked in a cold voice, "Third brother, are you saying they went to hunt down the Empress?"

The Third Prince nodded. "That's right."

The emperor sneered, "Third brother, don't forget, the empress is already dead."

The Third Prince said solemnly, "Brother, of course I know that the Empress is dead. Please read this letter carefully. This letter was written by that villain when the Empress was exiled!"

Upon hearing this, the emperor quickly looked down and continued reading, discovering that the letter was indeed written four years ago.

The letter the Third Prince gave him was the one the cowardly assassin had hidden; as for the new one, he kept it in his possession and didn't want to take it out now.

After carefully reading the letter, the emperor was not very angry. Instead, his gaze toward the Third Prince turned cold.

The Third Prince then added, "Your Majesty, I recently heard that Her Majesty the Empress may still be alive. These assassins must have heard that Her Majesty the Empress might be in Qingzhou Prefecture, so they went there."

He quickly knelt down and said, "Your Majesty, since the Empress is innocent, she cannot die in vain. Consort Duan's act of sending assassins to kill the Empress and the prince is a heinous crime. Please investigate, Your Majesty."

The Third Prince knew that Consort Duan had a close relationship with the Emperor, but just how close? He was mainly testing the waters this time.

Additionally, it could serve as a warning to Consort Duan, preventing her from sending assassins to Cheng'an County in the short term.

The emperor slowly placed the letter on the table and said coldly, "Third brother, you must be tired from traveling these past few days. Go back and rest. Leave this matter to me."

Upon hearing this, the Third Prince roughly guessed that the Emperor intended to protect Consort Duan.

He did not insist that the emperor should convict Consort Duan immediately, and slowly rose to his feet, saying, "Yes, Your Majesty."

After the Third Prince left, the Emperor angrily took the letter and went to Consort Duan's palace.

When Consort Duan saw him arrive, she stepped forward with a smile and said, "Your Majesty, what brings you here?"
