Chapter 247 Someone Poisoned Him

Chapter 247 Someone Poisoned Him

Sister-in-law Chu, carrying the pastries she had just bought, smiled and said to Zhang Qiuhe, "Madam Zhang, the mint-scented dew I bought from you last time was really good. I just happened to be passing by your shop today and thought I should thank you, so I brought some pastries with me. I hope you won't mind."

Zhang Qiuhe didn't have a deep relationship with the eldest sister-in-law of the Chu family. She was always kind to people, and when she saw that Zhang Qiuhe was bringing her pastries, she didn't refuse them. She just smiled and accepted them, saying, "Thank you."

Seeing that she had taken the pastry, the eldest sister-in-law of the Chu family added, "If you find this pastry dry, you can have some tea with it."

Zhang Qiuhe replied with a smile, "Okay, take care."

The eldest sister-in-law of the Chu family did not linger and turned to leave with a smile.

She walked out of the shop and happened to brush past Du Wanchun.

After walking a few steps, Sister-in-law Chu turned around and said, "Old Zhou's family, I brought you some pastries. They taste good, have a taste."

Du Wanchun's gaze darkened slightly. Seeing her so eager to please, she felt a little strange, but she still smiled and replied, "Thank you, Auntie."

A hint of smugness flashed in Chu's eldest sister-in-law's eyes as she smiled and turned to leave.

Du Wanchun glanced back, then walked into the shop.

When Zhang Qiuhe saw Du Wanchun arrive, she pushed the pastries on the table to the side. "I don't know what's wrong with this eldest sister-in-law of the Chu family. She suddenly brought us pastries. There's no such thing as a free lunch."

Du Wanchun unwrapped the oil paper covering the pastries, then took one out and smelled it in her hand.

It tastes sweet, but it's a bit strange.

At this moment, the Fifth Prince suddenly knocked the pastry out of Du Wanchun's hand, "Sister-in-law, don't eat it!"

Du Wanchun looked up at him, puzzled, and asked, "What's wrong?"

The Fifth Prince picked up a whole bag of pastries, smelled them, and frowned. "These pastries are poisoned."

"Poisonous?" Zhang Qiuhe exclaimed in surprise. "How could these perfectly good pastries be poisonous?"

The Fifth Prince said solemnly, "I eat a lot of pastries, and I can smell them just by looking at them. The aroma of this pastry is unusual. If I'm not mistaken, it must have been mixed with arsenic."

"Arsenic?!" Zhang Qiuhe exclaimed in surprise once again.

The Fifth Prince continued, "This arsenic isn't a special poison, but it's extremely potent. One bite could be fatal to you!"

Zhang Qiuhe was stunned. "Sister-in-law Chu wants to kill me?!"

The Fifth Prince nodded. "She gave you the pastries, so she must have been the one who put the medicine in. Just now, before she left, she even gave some to my sister-in-law. I guess she even wanted to kill her."

Zhang Qiuhe quickly looked at Du Wanchun, "If it were me, I could guess it was because of Wang Qiu, but why would she even target you, Wanchun?"

Du Wanchun was not surprised and said with a smile, "She must be holding a grudge because she found out that I refused to propose marriage to her daughter."

Zhang Qiuhe sighed, "She's so heartless. She's even capable of killing someone for the sake of her marriage."

The Fifth Prince put away the poisoned pastries. "That woman isn't poisonous, she's stupid. How could she poison someone in broad daylight? Even if you did eat them, do you think her daughter will escape unscathed and marry into a good family? No way!"

The Fifth Prince is right; the eldest sister-in-law of the Chu family is a woman with only evil intentions and no brains.

Du Wanchun took the pastries that the Fifth Prince had wrapped and said slowly, "Let's go, let's go to the yamen."
