Chapter 32 The Vegetables Grow Wildly in the Garden
Grandpa Meng felt that Grandma Zhou looked down on him, so he harbored resentment. This was the same thought as Aunt Meng, and the two of them went to the Zhou family's land together.
Zhou Zhao had just brought Zhou Feng home. The two of them had taken good care of the vegetables and rice in the field these past few days, and it looked lush and green.
Aunt Meng stood with her hands on her hips, clearly displeased. "This young widow is quite capable at farming. I heard from the Chen family that their vegetables were infested with bugs and rotting. How come they're growing so well?!"
Grandpa Meng was also surprised. He squatted down and touched the vegetable leaves. "These vegetables are really growing well. They're even stronger than the ones in our field!"
Aunt Meng snorted and said, "They're just lucky to have bought this good piece of land."
Grandpa Meng's eyes darted around, and he pulled Aunt Meng to the carriage. "The Chen family probably doesn't know about this yet. If they knew that the land they just gave away had grown so much grain, wouldn't they make a scene with the Zhou family?"
Aunt Meng nodded, her sharp little eyes narrowing, and said, "We'll go tell Old Chen and his wife right away."
“Okay, let’s go now.” Grandpa Meng nodded in agreement.
The two quickly boarded the carriage and headed towards the Chen family's residence.
When Chen Tieniu and Jiang learned of this, they were indeed stunned.
"Old Meng's family, is what you're saying true?" Jiang asked seriously.
Grandpa Meng and Aunt Meng nodded in unison.
Jiang suddenly stood up and scolded Chen Tieniu: "I told you not to return the land, but you insisted on doing so. Now look what happened, we've just handed over all the grain we grew to them."
Chen Tieniu took a puff of his pipe, his face full of displeasure, clearly harboring anger.
Once Grandpa Meng and Aunt Meng realized the message had been delivered, they immediately left.
Jiang became increasingly angry. "Why should we just give it to them like that! Chen Tieniu, I'm telling you, this isn't over! I'm going to go check on the fields!"
This time, Chen Tieniu completely sided with his wife, forgetting that they were the ones who uprooted the Zhou family's crops and forcibly occupied their land.
"I'll go with you!"
The two men rushed aggressively toward the Zhou family's land.
When they arrived at the Zhou family's land, the couple were stunned. The lush green plants were growing so vigorously. In another ten days or so, many of the vegetables would be ripe, which would be a bumper harvest!
Jiang strode into the field, pointed at the lush green vegetables, and shouted, "Chen Tieniu! Look! How well these crops are growing!"
Chen Tieniu was also stunned by the scene before him.
Jiang looked around, and seeing that no one was around, walked into the vegetable garden, picked up a vegetable, and stomped on it. "Chen Yue'e, if we're not having an easy time, you won't be either!"
Chen Tieniu strode forward and stopped her, saying, "What are you doing?!"
Jiang snorted coldly and said, "You useless thing, you deserve to be poor. People are practically climbing over you, don't you know that!"
After saying that, she shoved Chen Tieniu aside and continued pulling up vegetables from the field, muttering to herself as she did so, "Hmph! Let's see what you'll eat! I'll let you starve, you little widow!"
Seeing this, Chen Tieniu didn't go up to stop him anymore, and just stood aside watching blankly.
Jiang became more and more energetic as she pulled. She ran to the field and pulled up all the tall rice seedlings, cursing as she did so: "Let's see what you'll eat, you little bitch, starve to death."
For farmers, the crops in these fields are their lifeline.
She's trying to destroy the Zhou family.
After all that commotion, the entire field and vegetable garden were destroyed by Jiang alone.
Looking at the mess before her, she said smugly, "Chen Yue'e, you widow, let's see what you'll do then!"
Chen Tieniu finally couldn't stand it anymore. "That's enough. Let's go home quickly."
Jiang wiped her sweat and prepared to walk out of the field. "That's it! You've been urging me on!"
However, at that moment, a black snake suddenly appeared at her feet. The snake had a triangular head and looked extremely venomous.
"Ah! A snake!" Jiang was terrified and ran towards Chen Tieniu.
Chen Tieniu was startled when he saw the snake and turned to run away.
The snake followed closely behind them and bit Jiang's arm.
"Ah! A snake!" she cried out as she fell to the ground, waving her hands in pain.
The venomous snake clung tightly to her arm, as if it wanted to tear off a piece of flesh.
Chen Tieniu was too scared to go forward and fell to the ground, desperately backing away.
When he looked up again, he was stunned by what he saw.
The vegetables that had been pulled out all grew back, and they were even taller than before, with tall, large, and lush green leaves.
The rice in the fields stood tall, completely undamaged, even more lush than before.
"You wretched woman, look!" Chen Tieniu shouted in a panic towards Jiang Shi.
Jiang's hand was still being bitten by the snake, and she cried out in pain, "Quick, quick, come save me!"
Chen Tieniu stumbled to her side, helped her up, and pointed ahead, shouting, "Look!"
Despite the pain, Jiang squinted and looked ahead. Seeing the upright, proud cabbage leaves and rice stalks, she was shocked and quickly stepped back. "What happened? Everything's perfectly fine!"
Chen Tieniu shook his head.
Jiang's face turned deathly pale instantly, and she screamed, "A ghost! There's a ghost!"
After saying that, she rushed home, clutching the arm that was still being bitten by the snake.
Chen Tieniu hurriedly followed behind her, scrambling and crawling over.
