Chapter 331 Saving a Person on the Road

Chapter 331 Saving a Person on the Road

The two waved goodbye reluctantly, and Du Wanchun boarded the carriage to continue her journey.

After leaving Qingzhou Prefecture, they rode at full speed, stopping only at a post station for one night, and arrived in the territory of the Northern Di three days later.

Their customs are almost identical to those of the Xuan Yue Kingdom.

Seeing that everyone was tired, Du Wanchun stopped to rest in a small county town outside the capital of the Northern Di Kingdom.

This time they were looking for an inn.

Du Wanchun and Han Yan'er slept in the same room.

Wei Xun and the other guards slept in one room, while the remaining servants guarded the carriage in the backyard.

Throughout the journey, Han Yan'er was preoccupied with worry about Zhou Feng and couldn't eat anything.

Du Wanchun specially went to the kitchen to cook meat porridge for her.

"Second sister-in-law, come and have some porridge."

Han Yan'er took it and said with her head down, "Thank you, sister-in-law, but I really can't eat anymore."

Du Wanchun took out some pastries from her bosom and placed them on the table, saying, "Second sister-in-law, I know you're worried about your second brother, but your health is also important. Don't let your health deteriorate after we take him back."

Han Yan'er stared silently at the bowl in her hand.

After pondering for a moment, perhaps not wanting to disappoint Du Wanchun's curiosity, she picked up a spoon and began to eat.

It would have been better if she hadn't tried it. After taking a bite, Han Yan'er found that the porridge tasted pretty good.

My mouth used to taste bitter, but now it tastes sweet, and I even have a bit of an appetite.

She picked up the spoon and couldn't help but eat spoonful by spoonful, asking as she ate, "Sister-in-law, what did you put in this porridge? It's so delicious!"

Du Wanchun replied with a smile, "It's nothing, just some wild vegetables I brought from home."

Han Yan'er had never lived in the Zhou family's old house before, and didn't know what the wild vegetables Du Wanchun was talking about were, but she thought they tasted delicious.

She, who hadn't eaten for a day or two, ate three or four bowls of porridge right away.

After eating, I felt much better.

Du Wanchun didn't disturb her any longer. She got up, put the bowl away, and left the room.

When she returned from the inn's kitchen, she saw people making a fuss in the next room.

She probably overheard something while walking down the street.

Inside the house was a woman in her twenties, who appeared to be married, dressed in the clothes of an ordinary peasant woman.

All that could be heard was her crying inside the house: "Oh, that heartless man! He said he would take me to Yangcheng after he got promoted, but now he has the heart to sell me off."

"Don't cry, it's good that you're with me. I'll definitely treat you well."

The speaker was a pot-bellied middle-aged man who was making a lewd move on the woman.

Du Wanchun did not linger at the door and turned to go into her own room.

At this moment, the woman suddenly shouted, "You dare! If you dare touch me here, I'll go to Yangcheng and sue you, and that prince too!"

Upon hearing the words "Your Highness," Du Wanchun's ears immediately perked up.

The man saw that the woman was disobedient and wanted to resort to violence.

Du Wanchun frowned slightly and looked up at the next room.

The woman ran out of the room, and the man chased after her, shouting, "You think you can run away? I'll beat you to death today!"

The woman looked around and saw that the door to Du Wanchun's room was half open, so she rushed in.

Han Yan'er, who was sleeping, saw the newcomer and quickly drew her longsword, asking, "Who are you?"

Upon seeing Han Yan'er and Du Wanchun, the woman immediately knelt before them and cried, "Ladies, please save me! My husband sold us to this wicked slave so he could marry the prince's adopted daughter."

Han Yan'er was completely confused and hadn't yet figured out what was going on.

The man chased after her, yelling, "You bitch! Come back here right now! Don't talk nonsense!"

He was about to step into the house when a waiter happened to walk by.

The waiter's view was blocked by the dishes in his hands, and he accidentally bumped into the man.

The man slipped and fell towards the railing behind him.

With a loud crash, the railing broke, and he fell to the first floor.

"Oh no! Someone has fallen from the building!"

The guests below started to jeer and surrounded the man.

The man fell to the ground with a large pool of blood flowing from the back of his head.

Du Wanchun and Han Yan'er went out together to see what was happening. They saw the shopkeeper send someone to take the man to the doctor.

The two women exchanged a glance, then turned and went inside, closing the door behind them.

"Madam, is the prince you just mentioned the current emperor's younger brother, Prince Rong?"

The woman nodded quickly and said, "Yes, miss, it is her."

Du Wanchun and Han Yan'er exchanged another glance; it seemed they had saved the right person this time.

This Prince Rong was the one who sent people to detain Zhou Feng.

The two women gave the woman some food and then slowly inquired about her background.
