Chapter 344 Life is unpredictable; the original wife remarries.

After traveling for three or four days, Lord Li fled with the gold to a village. It was an abandoned house near his old family home, which was not easily found by ordinary people.

He moved all the gold into the house, intending to use it to buy land and, incidentally, two more girls to marry.

He was all smiles every day, but one morning he woke up to find himself stunned by what he saw: the boxes of gold had all turned into boxes of stones.

"What's going on? Where's my gold?" he exclaimed in astonishment.

Where did my gold go?

Lord Li frantically searched the house, only to find that there wasn't a single piece of gold, just stones.

There weren't any large rocks there yet.

He collapsed to the ground as if he had lost his soul. "How is this possible? When I moved here, it was all gold. I checked it all. How could it have turned into stone?"

When Lord Li left his residence, he took no one with him and nothing with him.

After moving the gold here, he practically slept with it in his arms, making it impossible for anyone to steal it.

But how did all this perfectly good gold turn into stone?

Lord Li smacked his head twice, gradually realizing that the Zhou family must have been behind it.

He was furious and wanted to go back to the Zhou family, but then he realized that they should have already left Beidi.

Left with no other choice, Lord Li had to return to Yangcheng.

However, Yangcheng had undergone tremendous changes. The scandals of Prince Rong had spread throughout the streets and alleys, and everyone said that he was ruthless and unworthy to be the next king.

Taking advantage of the situation, the old king demoted Prince Rong to a commoner and exiled him to the frontier.

As for Lord Li, the old king is sending men to arrest him.

Left with no other choice, Lord Li had to flee again. As he was leaving, he happened to brush past a bridal sedan chair, inside which sat the bride.

He watched from afar, when a gust of wind happened to lift the curtain of the bride's sedan chair and her veil, revealing the bride's face.

Lord Li was shocked to find that the bride was none other than his abandoned wife, Lady Cai.

It turned out that after Cai followed Master Fan that day, she met Master Qin, a wealthy merchant from Yangcheng.

Master Qin lost his wife early in life and had no children. He had been busy with his family business. That day, he accidentally met Madam Cai at Master Fan's residence.

He fell in love with her at first sight and asked Master Fan to arrange the marriage.

Sure enough, less than a month later, he married her.

Lord Li watched as his first wife, whom he had despised, married someone else, and felt a mix of emotions, only to realize that life is unpredictable.

When Du Wanchun and Han Yan'er returned to Cheng'an County, they received a thank-you gift from Cai Shi: a pair of fine luminous pearls.

It could be worth a fortune.

"This is a luminous pearl! I never expected that lady to be so generous." Han Yan'er looked at it with a smile on her face. She hadn't expected that the woman would have such a turn of events.

Du Wanchun took out a letter from inside and said with a smile, "Although Madam Cai was born into a farming family, she is decisive, bold and meticulous. Master Qin is lucky to have married her."

Han Yan'er put down the luminous pearl in her hand and asked Du Wanchun, "Sister-in-law, what else did she say in her letter?"

Du Wanchun smiled and said, "Madam Cai said she knows that our Zhou family is in the rice business, and Lord Qin is willing to give us two shops to open in Yangcheng."

"This is great news!" Han Yan'er said with a smile.

Du Wanchun nodded. "It is indeed a good thing."

Their shops grew bigger and bigger, and the more shops they opened, the more money they made came in.

Madam Wu came out of the house and brought each of them a cup of tea.

Du Wanchun stood up and took the money, saying, "Sister Wu, Brother Wei said he'll take you home once he's done with this."
