Chapter 507 A Strange Miscarriage

Chapter 507 A Strange Miscarriage

After leaving the emperor, the seventh prince left the palace overnight and went to Zhou Ruiyuan's new residence.

Just as Du Wanchun had finished putting Xiao Mianmian and Xiao Feifei to sleep, a servant's voice came from the courtyard, "Madam, a guest has arrived."

She slowly got up, called Dong'er to take care of the two children, and then went to Zhou Ruiyuan's study.

The Seventh Prince sat in Zhou Ruiyuan's study, head bowed, still somewhat excited.

His hands trembled slightly, and cold sweat poured out uncontrollably.

Zhou Ruiyuan poured him a cup of tea, saying, "Have a sip of tea to calm your nerves."

Seeing his appearance, Du Wanchun walked over, closed the door, and asked in confusion, "What's wrong, Seventh Prince?"

Zhou Ruiyuan replied, "He's been like this ever since he came in; perhaps he was frightened."

After drinking the tea, the Seventh Prince felt much better. He wiped the sweat from his face and said, "Consort Li suffered a miscarriage today."

Zhou Ruiyuan and Du Wanchun exchanged a glance, both showing surprise.

"Miscarriage? When did that happen?"

Their family had just moved to the capital when Consort Li suffered a miscarriage. What a coincidence!

The seventh prince picked up the teapot to pour himself a cup of water, but his hand was shaking so badly that the teapot rattled.

Du Wanchun quickly took the teapot and poured him a cup of tea. "Seventh Prince, please don't rush, speak slowly."

The Seventh Prince gulped down the tea in his cup. "Not long after my elder brother left, Consort Li accidentally fell into the water and miscarried on her way to the Imperial Garden."

"The Emperor suspects that I was the one who did it." He said, his eyes reddening slightly, and his eyes gradually becoming moist.

"He thinks that I killed Consort Li's unborn child in order to compete for the position of Crown Prince."

The Seventh Prince looked up at Zhou Ruiyuan, tears slowly sliding down his face and dripping onto his trembling hand. "Big brother, you, second brother, and third brother don't acknowledge him, and fifth brother is gone too. Now only I still call him Father, but he actually suspects me and has murderous intent towards me."

Zhou Ruiyuan and Du Wanchun remained silent.

The Seventh Prince's tears flowed even more fiercely. "These past few years, while you were away, he was often seriously ill, and I was the one who took care of him. Whether it was matters of the court or matters of the harem, I did my best to arrange everything properly for him. But he wanted to kill me because of the child in Consort Li's belly."

Zhou Ruiyuan slowly took out a handkerchief and gently wiped away the tears on his face. "Isn't he always like this?"

“Back then, when Consort Wu miscarried, he also suspected me.”

His tone was as cold as ice and snow, yet as calm as the wind, devoid of any emotion. He had long since given up on his father, the emperor who held the highest position in the land.

The seventh prince took the handkerchief from him, rubbing his eyes frantically, feeling somewhat resentful of his own weakness. "If only I had left this godforsaken place like my fifth brother, I wouldn't care about being a prince or a crown prince."

Zhou Ruiyuan turned his head slightly to look out the window and asked, "You've come to see me at this time, there must be more than just this one thing, right?"

The Seventh Prince nodded, "That's right. Today, I had a sudden inspiration and took on the case of Consort Li's miscarriage. I also got the Emperor to agree to let me re-examine the case of Consort Wu's miscarriage back then, so as to clear the Empress Dowager's name."

Zhou Ruiyuan's eyes widened in shock, and he quickly turned to him and asked, "Are you saying that the Emperor has agreed to reinstate the case of Empress Dowager Charlie being wrongly accused?"

The Seventh Prince put down the handkerchief in his hand, stood up and said, "That's right. Besides, I have already asked my father to let you investigate with me."

This was the first thing Zhou Ruiyuan had to do upon returning to Beijing.

He suddenly realized that Consort Li's miscarriage came at just the right time, giving them this opportunity.

He quickly looked at Du Wanchun.

Du Wanchun remained calm, though there was surprise in her eyes, she was much more composed than him.

Zhou Ruiyuan returned to normal, and a smile gradually appeared on his face as he said, "Good, very good, Seventh Brother, don't cry anymore. Don't worry, with me here, you won't die."

The Seventh Prince's complexion improved considerably.

His emotional outburst just now wasn't solely due to fear; more importantly, it stemmed from the fact that the emperor had broken his heart.

It's good that he's heartbroken; the Seventh Prince will no longer have any hope for his father.

He nodded. "Understood, brother."

Du Wanchun smiled gently and said, "Seventh Prince, are you hungry? I'll ask the kitchen to prepare a couple of dishes for you so you can talk slowly."

The Seventh Prince was indeed hungry; he hadn't eaten dinner after what had happened today.

"Thank you, sister-in-law." He bowed and thanked Du Wanchun.

Du Wanchun didn't interrupt their conversation any further, turned around and went out to the kitchen.

Although he was supposed to be going to the kitchen, he was actually there to keep an eye on all the servants and maids in the mansion. They were new to the place and had to be careful in everything they did.

After having the kitchen staff prepare the dishes, Du Wanchun personally delivered them to Zhou Ruiyuan and the others.

The three of them were together, and the Seventh Prince talked about many details of Consort Li's miscarriage.

"Was anything different in the Imperial Garden that day?" Zhou Ruiyuan asked.

The Seventh Prince shook his head. "There's nothing different. The palace servants check every day. I went to the bridge before leaving the palace today and didn't find anything unusual."

Zhou Ruiyuan continued, "Is there anyone suspicious around Consort Li?"
