Chapter 523 Escaping to Wanchun's House

Chapter 523 Escaping to Wanchun's House

Du Wanchun lit the lamp and replied, "This is my Zhou family's own school. Usually, there are two teachers living here, but they are probably out on business today and will be back later."

As she spoke, she lit the remaining lamps, "If you two don't mind, you can stay here for now?"

Du Wanchun didn't specifically ask about the woman's identity, nor did she inquire why they were there.

Deputy General Song didn't explicitly state that he planned to stay here for one night before taking the princess to the palace to avoid implicating the Zhou family.

Du Wanchun settled Deputy General Song in Mr. Yuan's room, letting him share the night with Hai Qingyang.

Then the princess was placed in another guest room.

The princess, disguised as a man, thought that Du Wanchun had not noticed, so she offered, "There's no need to prepare a separate guest room. I'll stay with Brother Song."

Deputy General Song hurriedly said in a panic, "How can that be? You are...!"

The princess immediately gave him a wink.

Deputy General Song swallowed his words, which were stuck in his throat.

Du Wanchun then smiled and said, "In that case, I'll trouble the two of you to share a room."

Deputy General Song widened his eyes and quickly refused, "Manager Du, I still think it would be better if we each slept in a separate room."

Before he could finish speaking, the princess grabbed him and pulled him into the room that Du Wanchun had prepared.

"Manager Du..." Deputy General Song wanted to say more.

The princess hooked her arm around his neck and pulled him back into the house. After closing the door, she whispered, "If you keep talking, Manager Du will definitely find out that I am a woman."

Deputy General Song replied in a low voice, "You don't need to be too nervous. Even if Manager Du knows you are a woman, it won't matter. She won't complain."

The princess didn't believe it and turned to go inside. "Her husband is the Minister of Justice. How could she help us keep such a big thing a secret?"

Deputy General Song said earnestly, "Of course I can. General Zhou has his reasons for asking me to come and serve Manager Du."

The princess smiled and said, "I hope so, otherwise someone will come to take us away as soon as it's light tomorrow."

Deputy General Song bent down, sat down with his back to her, and said, "Princess, you will sleep in the bed tonight, and I will guard you at the door."

The princess couldn't help but laugh at his appearance. "Alright, you stay and guard the door. I'm going to sleep now."

She lay down on the bed without ceremony, turning over so her back was to him.

The two of them sat back to back all night; one of them actually sat all night, while the other, though lying down, didn't sleep at all.

Du Wanchun brought them breakfast early in the morning.

As she set out breakfast, she said, "I heard from my husband that the Emperor is searching everywhere for the princess and has dissolved her engagement with the Third Prince. Deputy General Song, can you go back now?"

Deputy General Song was taken aback and looked up at Du Wanchun.

Du Wanchun smiled and said, "My third brother wrote me a letter earlier, saying that you were escorting the princess into the city, so I naturally guessed that the princess was the one."

The princess was also startled, and could no longer eat the bun she was holding.

Du Wanchun said slowly, "You two don't have to worry. I won't expose your whereabouts, but this can't go on. The princess has a special status, and the emperor can't do anything about her. But Vice General Song, you are different. You are from Xuan Yue Kingdom. If the emperor finds out that you were the one who abducted the princess, he might take your life."

Deputy General Song swallowed the bun he had just eaten, his hands trembling slightly.

He's still young, of course he's afraid of dying.

The princess, her face composed, put down the steamed buns. "Manager Du, it's not his fault, it's all my fault."

Du Wanchun turned her head to look at her, "The Emperor doesn't care which of the two of you is the mastermind. If he can't kill you, he will naturally find someone else to vent his anger on."

The princess turned her head to look at Deputy General Song, her eyes revealing worry and regret.

Du Wanchun continued, "Since the Emperor has changed his mind, the princess doesn't necessarily have to run away."

She deliberately softened her tone as she spoke, "Didn't the Emperor ask you to choose a husband? You are free to choose someone you like."

The princess understood her meaning; she knew that if she continued to be so willful, she would cause Vice General Song's death.

"Can we go back now?" she asked Du Wanchun.

Du Wanchun replied, "Of course you can go back. Deputy General Song can use the pretext of finding you to bring you back to the palace."

The princess suddenly realized.

She and Deputy General Song fell silent again.

Du Wanchun got up and left, leaving the two of them to discuss the matter.
