Chapter 539 The Lu Family's Scandal

Chapter 539 The Lu Family's Scandal

The attendant suddenly realized, "Sir, are you planning to use a honey trap?"

Lord Lu smiled and said, "There is no man in the world who does not love beautiful women. I do not believe that this method will not work."

The attendant replied, "Yes, sir."

Upon receiving the order, the attendant turned and left Lord Lu's study with utmost respect.

Lord Lu has just turned sixty, but looking at his black hair and youthful face, anyone who didn't know him would think he was in his prime.

He turned to sit down, but somehow the chair tilted and he fell heavily to the ground with a thud, his buttocks practically split in two.

He was in so much pain that he cried out.

Hearing the noise, the servant outside quickly asked, "Master, what's wrong?"

Lord Lu clutched his backside and said sternly, "Go, fetch a doctor for me."

The servant immediately left to fetch the doctor.

By the time the doctor arrived, Lord Lu had already laboriously climbed onto the bed.

"Sir, how did you manage to fall at home all of a sudden?" the doctor asked him.

Lord Lu pointed to the chair and said, "I wasn't careful when I sat down, so I accidentally fell. Doctor, please take a look at my tailbone and see if there's anything wrong."

The doctor examined him and then prescribed some plasters. "Your bones were almost fractured. You need to rest for a few days."

Lord Lu was in so much pain that his teeth chattered and cold sweat poured down his forehead. "How long will it take to get better?"

The doctor said slowly, "Sir, your health is not as good as it used to be when you were young and strong. You need to rest for three months."

"Three months?" Lord Lu was shocked.

"That's right, sir, it will definitely take three months," the doctor instructed him.

Lord Lu's face was gloomy. He sent someone to take the doctor back, and then immediately summoned his personal servant, "Go and get me some drinks. I need to replenish my energy."

The servant immediately bowed and replied, "Yes, sir."

About half an hour later, the servant brought over a bowl of warm red soup.

The red soup had a slightly fishy smell.

The servant held his breath, suppressing his discomfort, and served the red soup to Lord Lu.

Lord Lu held the cup in his hand, took a sip with a satisfied look on his face, and said, "This doctor is really useless. He said I'm too old. With my black hair, I look like I'm in my twenties. I have my own secret to immortality."

After he finished speaking, he drank everything in the bowl in one gulp, blood trickling from the corner of his mouth.

The servant lowered his head and dared not speak.

Lord Lu put down the bowl. "Let's go. Bring me another bowl tomorrow. I'm injured right now and need to drink more, otherwise it will really take three months to recover."

"Yes, sir." The servant bowed and took the bowl, then obediently withdrew.

Late at night, Miss Lu, who had returned to her parents' home to stay, was searching for something in the yard with a hoe.

Her husband appears to be an honest and incorruptible official, but secretly he has a hobby of buying calligraphy and paintings.

The monthly allowance they receive is simply not enough to cover their expenses.

So she specifically returned to an abandoned courtyard in the backyard of the Lu family to dig for silver.

Before she got married, she saw her father burying things here, and she guessed that it was probably his embezzled money that he had hidden away.

This time when she returned home, she pretended to accompany her mother, but in reality, she came to the courtyard to dig up what she believed to be "stolen money".

To avoid being discovered, Miss Lu dug here alone with a small hoe.

Her personal maid stood guard at the courtyard gate to help relay messages.

She dug for two days without making any progress, and today is the third day.

After digging for half an hour, Miss Lu noticed someone was coming and immediately hid with her hoe.

It turned out to be her father's servant.

The servant took the paper money and burned it under a large locust tree. After he finished burning it, he kowtowed to the locust tree.

He was still muttering to himself.

"Girls, don't blame me. I was just following orders. If you want to blame someone, blame the master. He's the one who told me to do this. Don't come looking for me tonight. I'll burn as much silver as you want."

Miss Lu was too far away to hear what he was saying clearly, and assumed that he was mourning his relatives.

As a cold wind blew, the half-burned paper money suddenly went out.

The servant was startled, his face filled with panic. "Who? Who's here?"

He stood up in a daze and looked around.

Miss Lu shrank back, and when she looked up again, she found that the servant had already run away.

Only wisps of white smoke remained in the dark and quiet courtyard, enveloping it like a fog.

Miss Lu suddenly felt a chill run down her spine.

She gritted her teeth, ready to leave, but then thought that since she was already here, she might as well dig a little more.

She looked up and saw that no one was around, then picked up her hoe and continued digging towards the ground.

Unexpectedly, this digging actually yielded something.
