Chapter 59 Kidnapping at the Door
The next day.
Du Wanchun got up early and followed Aunt Zhou to steam the freshly picked mint leaves and honeysuckle together to make fragrant dew.
The heat for making fragrant dew should not be too high; it should be steamed slowly.
Zhou Ruiyuan chopped all the firewood in the yard before dawn and started a fire for them.
After steaming three or four batches, the crystal-clear fragrant dew dripped little by little into the ceramic jar next to it.
Aunt Zhou took it in her hand and smelled it, her face immediately lighting up with joy. "Wanchun, come and see, how does it smell?"
Du Wanchun wiped her hands, walked to her side, took the perfume and smelled it. "It has a light floral fragrance with a cool and refreshing feeling. After smelling it, I feel refreshed and invigorated. It's very nice."
Aunt Zhou smiled and nodded after hearing her praise. "That's good. This fragrant dew would be quite good if we sold it. Wanchun, come on, let's steam some more."
"Okay, Mother," Du Wanchun replied with a smile, putting the fragrant dew back in its place.
Zhou Ruiyuan got up and added another pile of firewood.
By the afternoon, a large bottle of fragrant dew was ready.
Aunt Zhou held it in her hand and looked at it again and again when she first arrived in the front yard.
Aunt Wang arrived. "Sister Zhou, aren't you building a house? I've called Brother He over for you."
The eldest brother of the He family is named He Quanyi. His family has been bricklayers for generations and their skills are excellent.
He followed behind Aunt Wang with a smile and said, "Sister Zhou."
Aunt Zhou quickly welcomed them into the house.
Seeing this, Du Wanchun followed behind and poured two cups of tea for the two of them.
He Quanyi took the tea, looked at the house, and started talking to Aunt Zhou and Du Wanchun about building the house.
The three quickly finalized the plan to build the house and agreed to demolish it on the third day of next month.
After He Quanyi left, Aunt Wang smiled and said, "Sister Zhou, building a new house will take at least two or three months. Why don't you bring the children to stay with us?"
After thinking it over, Aunt Zhou finally declined, saying, "It's alright. The weather is warm lately, so we can just set up a shed in the yard to live in."
Seeing that she was unwilling, Aunt Wang didn't try to persuade her any further. After chatting for a few minutes, she went home.
Du Wanchun got up and went to the door to see her off, saying, "Auntie, take care."
Aunt Wang liked Du Wanchun very much, and even after walking halfway, she turned back and smiled at her.
After Du Wanchun watched her walk away, she closed the door and prepared to go inside.
Just then, three or four tall, burly men suddenly rushed in from outside the door.
"This is the Zhou family's residence?!"
They asked Du Wanchun menacingly.
Du Wanchun took two steps back and said sternly, "Who are you?!"
The burly man leading the group sized her up and said coldly, "Are you Du Wanchun?!"
Du Wanchun frowned, becoming wary, and did not reply.
Hearing that she remained silent, the burly man guessed that she was the person he was looking for, and said sternly, "You are Du Wanchun, aren't you?"
"What do you want to do?" Du Wanchun asked as she backed away.
Hearing the commotion, Aunt Zhou rushed over and shielded Du Wanchun behind her. "Stop! Who are you?! What are you doing in our house?"
The burly man stared at them and said coldly, "Someone is paying us to invite Miss Du over."
"Who is it?" Du Wanchun asked them.
The burly man squinted, a lewd smile on his face. "You'll find out when you get there."
As he spoke, he hurriedly called out to the two burly men behind him, "What are you all standing there for? Hurry up and do it!"
Upon hearing this, the other two burly men took out large knives and walked towards Du Wanchun.
Just then, an arrow suddenly shot out of the house and hit one of the strong men in the arm.
"Ah!" The burly man cried out in pain, clutching his bloodied arm as he collapsed to the ground, struggling.
The burly man with the thick beard and the burly man beside him were astonished. They took two steps back and shouted angrily, "Who is it?"
Du Wanchun and Aunt Zhou were also startled and turned around to look behind them.
Zhou Ruiyuan slowly walked out of the house with a bow in his hand and an arrow about to be released.
In the dim shadows, his face was grim, and his sharp eyes were filled with anger as he fixed the arrowhead on the head of the burly man with the thick beard.
The burly man with the thick beard was startled and took several steps back, followed by the burly man beside him. "Who are you?!"
As Zhou Ruiyuan walked away, he coldly replied, "I am her husband. If you want to take her away, you'll have to ask me first."
The burly man with the thick beard clearly showed fear on his face. He gritted his teeth, picked up his broadsword, and charged directly at Zhou Ruiyuan.
Zhou Ruiyuan's eyes turned cold, and without saying a word, he released the arrow from the head of the burly man with the thick beard.
With a whoosh, the arrow shot directly into the chest of the burly man with the thick beard.
The burly man with a thick beard clutched his chest, cried out in pain, and collapsed to the ground.
Another burly man, seeing that Zhou Ruiyuan had no arrows left, stepped forward with his knife and blocked his way. "You've got some skills, kid, but let's see if your bare hands are faster, or my knife."
Having said that, he quickly swung the knife in his hand at Zhou Ruiyuan.
