Chapter 651 They're going to Changliu Village
The boat continued to move forward, and Mianmian was as happy as when she arrived.
They soon arrived at the dock in Cheng'an County.
Mianmian pulled Aruo away from the crowd and secretly disembarked from the boat. She didn't want others to discover her identity, so she specially changed into men's clothes.
Dressed as a man, she really looked like the young master of some wealthy family.
Aruo followed behind her, "Mianmian, where are you going?"
Holding a folding fan, Mianmian smiled and said, "Naturally, we'll go to my family's old house in Changliu Village."
No one lives in that house in Changliu Village anymore, and Aunt Zhou sends someone to clean it every now and then.
This house holds many memories between Xiao Mianmian and Qing'er.
She and Aruo got into a horse-drawn carriage and headed towards Changliu Village.
The changes in Changliu Village are tremendous. Since they started growing rice and spices with the Zhou family, everyone has become wealthy.
In the past, most of the houses were made of mud, but now they have all been replaced by small brick and tile houses.
By the time they arrived at the entrance of the Zhou family's old residence, it was already evening.
Mianmian stepped down from the carriage, looked up at her own door, and smiled, "Let's sleep here tonight."
She took out her key and opened the door. As she walked in, she said, "Aruo, you don't know, we used to have a duck that laid a lot of eggs, but my grandmother took it to Cheng'an County to live out its days. It's not here anymore."
Aruo found it very strange, "More than ten years have passed, and the duck is still alive?"
Mianmian turned to look at him and smiled meaningfully, "The world is so big, there are all sorts of wonders."
After she finished speaking, she continued walking inside.
Looking at every brick and tile inside, she was filled with memories of playing in the yard in the past.
Aruo strode forward to clear a path for her, wiping the chair as he looked around.
Mianmian smiled and said, "Don't worry, it's just us here."
She looked up, her eyes darting around, "If there really is something else, it must be something unseen, maybe it's right behind you."
Aruo's shoulders visibly trembled, and his face instantly darkened. He was afraid of nothing except the ghosts and monsters that came out at night.
Mianmian chuckled and said, "Okay, I was just kidding. My family definitely doesn't have any of those things."
Aruo breathed a sigh of relief, and her complexion gradually improved.
He usually has a cold face, but Mianmian always knows how to make him laugh.
Mianmian led him to the room where she lived as a child, where she used to sleep in the cradle with Yi'er and Yu'er.
Aruo slowly walked forward and gently shook her hand.
At that moment, he seemed to see what Xiao Mianmian looked like when she was little. His cheeks flushed, and he couldn't help but smile.
Mianmian continued walking inside, saying, "My parents' things are still here."
These are all books and calligraphy and paintings left behind by Zhou Ruiyuan. When he and Du Wanchun left, they thought that one day they would return here.
So I didn't take the things.
Mianmian quickly let go of her hand, "My dad told me that I can't touch anything here."
However, Aruo acted too quickly and accidentally picked up a stack of paintings on the desk.
The paintings scattered all over the ground with a clatter.
Mianmian and Aruo were both stunned.
All that could be seen in the painting was Du Wanchun.
These were secretly drawn by Zhou Ruiyuan in the past.
There are images of Du Wanchun pregnant, and of her and Aunt Zhou making incense balls with smiles on their faces.
And the way she looked when she was doing accounting with an abacus.
Mianmian stared blankly at the painting, then slowly bent down to pick it up. "I never imagined that my father had painted so many portraits of Tan behind my mother's back."
She folded the painting and put it back in its original place, her face full of envy.
Aruo noticed her expression and immediately said, "I'll draw for you from now on."
Mianmian looked up and smiled, "You should paint for your wife from now on."
Aruo stared at her blankly, then fell silent again.
After leaving the room, the two went to the backyard.
The kitchen in the backyard was very clean, and there were even stacks of firewood inside.
Aruo put down her sword and went to clean up the kitchen.
They brought some food with them, which can be eaten after just heating it up.
Soon, the house, which had been quiet for many years, began to be filled with the warmth of life again.
Inside the palace, Wei Qinghuan happily entered the palace hoping to see Mianmian, only to be told by Du Wanchun that Mianmian was not in the palace.
He was greatly disappointed. "Aunt Wanchun, do you know where Mianmian went?"
Du Wanchun thought for a moment, "Mianmian mentioned to me some time ago that she would go to Cheng'an County after the Crown Princess is chosen. Why don't you go and look for her that day?"
Upon hearing this, Wei Qing quickly replied, "Thank you, Aunt Wanchun. I'll head to Cheng'an County right away."
He turned to leave after saying that.
Du Wanchun suddenly called out to him, "Qing'er, you and Mianmian haven't seen each other for years. She's no longer the little sister she used to be. You need to be mindful of your words and actions..."
She hesitated to speak, but her words were quite clear.
Mianmian and Qing'er did have a deep bond when they were young, but because they were young, it was just a brother-sister relationship for Mianmian. They haven't seen each other for a long time now.
She wasn't sure what Mianmian's feelings were for Qing'er.
Xiao Qing'er is now an impatient and impulsive person. She is really afraid that if he pushes her too hard, it will backfire.
Wei Qingchao bowed deeply to Du Wanchun, "Yes, Aunt Wanchun."
He left immediately after speaking.
When Zhou Ruiyuan entered, he saw him leaving in a hurry.
Completely bewildered, he asked Du Wanchun, "He just arrived and he's already leaving?"
Du Wanchun told Zhou Ruiyuan what she had just said.
Zhou Ruiyuan sat down beside her, took her hand and said, "Speaking of which, it's been a long time since we've been back to Cheng'an County. When are we going to go back and take a look?"
Du Wanchun looked at him and slowly said, "After Mianmian gets married, shall we go into seclusion?"
Zhou Ruiyuan embraced her, gently kissed her forehead, and said softly, "Alright, I'll do whatever you say."
