Chapter 67 The Couple Confess
Aunt Wang took Wang Qiu home. Before leaving, she repeatedly told Aunt Zhou that she would keep a close eye on her son and not let him do anything bad again.
After the two of them left, Aunt Zhou pulled Zhou Ruiyuan aside and whispered, "Ruiyuan, what should we do now? If that woman finds out we're really in Cheng'an County, she'll probably send people over."
Zhou Ruiyuan looked in the direction of the Wang family and said, "I will have Wang Qiu write a letter back to that woman, saying that he did not find us, mother and children, in Cheng'an County."
Aunt Zhou asked doubtfully, "Will she believe that?"
Zhou Ruiyuan withdrew his gaze and walked into the house. "Don't worry, even if she doesn't believe me, she won't send people to kill us in a big way again."
Aunt Zhou still didn't understand, "Why?"
Zhou Ruiyuan sat down and continued, "She crippled and deafened us back then, and did so many evil things. If we really take action now, it will only expose her true colors in front of the Emperor. Otherwise, she wouldn't have only sent a lowly guard this time."
Aunt Zhou suddenly realized and asked, "What about Wang Qiu? Is he willing to listen to you?"
Zhou Ruiyuan replied, "From the moment he left the capital, that woman had no intention of sparing his life. Rather than going back to his death, he'd rather stay here and put on a show with us. Besides, he's willing to keep it a secret from Consort Wu for the sake of his family; otherwise, it wouldn't just be him who would die."
After hearing this, Aunt Zhou nodded.
Although Wang Qiu was a bodyguard by Consort Wu's side, he was also a filial son and dared not gamble with his parents' lives.
The two of them chatted inside the house.
Du Wanchun and Zhou Zhao were collecting eggs in the backyard.
Filled with doubt, she tentatively asked Zhou Zhao, "Third brother, how did you and your husband offend that Imperial Concubine? She actually sent people all this way to kill you."
Zhou Zhao paused, holding the basket, and looked up at Du Wanchun. "Sister-in-law, this matter is rather complicated. I think it should be told to you by your elder brother himself."
Hearing him say that, Du Wanchun didn't ask any further questions.
at night.
After having dinner early, Du Wanchun returned to her room and waited for Zhou Ruiyuan to come in.
Zhou Ruiyuan lifted the curtain and entered the room, finding Du Wanchun preoccupied, and roughly guessed what was wrong.
He slowly walked to Du Wanchun's side and sat down on the bed with her.
The two sat side by side, like newlyweds entering their bridal chamber, their expressions reserved and shy.
Du Wanchun sensed his fragrance and breathing, and moved to the side.
Zhou Ruiyuan quickly grasped her hand, "Wanchun, today..."
Before he could finish speaking, Du Wanchun interrupted him decisively, "Husband, since we are husband and wife, you shouldn't hide it from me."
A hint of guilt flashed in Zhou Ruiyuan's clear eyes as he tightened his grip on her hand and said, "I didn't mean to hide it from you; I was just afraid of implicating you."
Du Wanchun turned her head and looked at him with a firm gaze. "Husband, back then you were disabled and your family was poor. I was willing to step into your home, not afraid of hardship or being implicated. I only hope that we can be honest with each other, be of one mind as husband and wife, and overcome difficulties together."
Zhou Ruiyuan's expression shifted slightly, his eyes gradually dimmed, and he gripped Du Wanchun's hand even tighter.
Seeing that he didn't reply, Du Wanchun immediately pulled her hand back and said angrily, "Or are you saying that you don't consider me family at all, and you don't consider us husband and wife at all!"
Zhou Ruiyuan suddenly looked up at her, his eyes filled with urgency, and wanted to reach out and take her hand.
Du Wanchun stood up, slapped his hand away, and said coldly, "Zhou Ruiyuan, I don't have to marry you. If you don't want to marry me, you can give me a letter of divorce now. I promise I will take the letter of divorce and leave you without looking back."
As soon as she finished speaking, she walked quickly away.
"Wan Chun!"
Zhou Ruiyuan stood up, strode up behind her, hugged her tightly, buried his head in her shoulder, and said in a trembling voice, "Don't go..."
Du Wanchun felt the frantically pounding heart and the slightly trembling body behind her. Struggling, she asked him, "Zhou Ruiyuan, what do you mean by this?"
Zhou Ruiyuan tightened his arms around her, pulling her into a tight embrace. His deep voice carried a hint of urgency as he said, "Wanchun, I'll talk."
Du Wanchun then stopped struggling and let him hold her.
Zhou Ruiyuan held her, rested his chin on her shoulder, and quietly looked ahead. "I don't have the surname Zhou."
Du Wanchun paused for a moment, then turned her head slightly to look at him.
Zhou Ruiyuan lowered his eyes with a deep gaze and slowly said, "My surname is Liang, and my mother's surname is Lu, and her name is Lu Zhou, so we were given the surname Zhou."
Liang is the royal surname of Xuan Yue Kingdom, and Zhou Ruiyuan is a member of the royal family.
