Chapter 69 A Belated Wedding Night
Zhou Ruiyuan drew the bed curtains, hiding the two figures beneath the bed canopy.
At this moment, Du Wanchun finally understood what Aunt Zhou meant and realized what it meant to be unable to bear it. Her husband was really different from the one she usually saw.
The oil lamp in the house burned until midnight, yet the simple hut didn't gradually quiet down until dawn.
The next morning, Du Wanchun slowly woke up in Zhou Ruiyuan's arms, and the familiar faint fragrance of his body wafted from behind her.
However, this fragrance carried a hint of ambiguity compared to usual.
Du Wanchun's cheeks instantly became hot again. She supported her aching back, left his embrace, and buried her face in the blanket.
Zhou Ruiyuan, with his eyes closed, reached out and pulled her back, like holding a soft kitten, tightly encircling her in his arms and gently rubbing his nose against the back of her neck. "Wife, you're awake?"
Du Wanchun peeked out with her two round eyes, nodded, and let out a soft "hmm" from her throat.
The voice was rather soft and slightly hoarse.
Zhou Ruiyuan smiled and said, "Let's sleep a little longer. Mother shouldn't come to wake us today."
Du Wanchun blushed even more when she thought about what had happened last night.
She's gained some weight these past few days at the Zhou family's house, no longer as thin as before. Her figure has become more curvaceous, her round little cheeks are chubby and fair, making one want to take a bite.
Zhou Ruiyuan bit her fair and smooth shoulder, then pecked her rosy cheek, and then actually hugged her and fell asleep again.
As she heard steady breathing behind her, Du Wanchun gradually closed her eyes.
They were so tired last night that they slept until almost noon.
Just as Zhou Ruiyuan reached for his clothes, the wooden comb and rouge he had been carrying in his pocket rolled out and landed right next to the bed.
Upon seeing this, Du Wanchun asked in surprise, "What is this?"
Zhou Ruiyuan bent down, picked up the comb and rouge from the ground, placed them in her hands, and said, "These are for you."
Looking at the carved sandalwood comb and the exquisite rouge, Du Wanchun felt a warmth in her heart. She quickly got off the bed, took the comb and rouge, and began to dress up in front of the new bronze mirror. "Thank you, husband."
Zhou Ruiyuan got dressed, got out of bed, and came up behind her. He took the comb from her hand and said softly, "Let me comb your hair."
"You know how to comb hair?" Du Wanchun asked in surprise, looking at her reflection in the mirror.
Zhou Ruiyuan gently stroked her long, ink-black hair, and gently combed it downwards with a comb. "I don't know how, but I can learn."
As soon as he landed, Du Wanchun felt a sharp pain on her scalp and couldn't help but cry out in pain.
Zhou Ruiyuan quickly let go, "Did you hurt your hair?"
Du Wanchun rubbed her scalp and shook her head, saying, "It's alright, I'll do it myself."
Zhou Ruiyuan, however, insisted on continuing to comb Du Wanchun's hair, slowing down the pace, and finally actually put her hair into a bun.
Du Wanchun looked at her crookedly styled hair and didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
Zhou Ruiyuan held the comb, looking at his masterpiece with a sullen face and some displeasure. He was really a little uncomfortable with someone who could do everything so easily.
Du Wanchun turned around to comfort him, and said with a smile, "It's okay. Learning takes time. There's still a long way to go. One or two days won't make a difference."
Zhou Ruiyuan put down the comb, took out a wooden hairpin and gently fastened it to Du Wanchun's hair. In a very firm tone, he whispered in her ear, "Yes, from now on, I will comb your hair for the rest of my life."
Du Wanchun's heart skipped a beat, and she nodded with a smile.
How long is a lifetime? Nobody knows.
However, she was very fortunate that their lives had just begun.
Noon.
When Aunt Zhou saw Du Wanchun come out of the room, her face was full of smiles. However, afraid of startling Du Wanchun, she quickly wiped the smile off and called out to them, "Wanchun, Ruiyuan, come and eat!"
After she finished speaking, she placed the freshly cooked braised crucian carp on the table. "Today, Zhao'er went to the pond and caught a few more fish. That's enough for us to eat for several days."
After washing up, Du Wanchun took a bowl and chopsticks from the kitchen and came to the table. When she saw the bright red crucian carp, her mouth almost watered.
Aunt Zhou's cooking skills have been getting better and better lately, and she couldn't help but praise, "Mom, the fish smells so good today!"
Aunt Zhou smiled somewhat embarrassedly and said, "Well, it's all thanks to the Cao family's daughter-in-law down the mountain. She taught me how to do it."
After setting out the bowls and chopsticks, Du Wanchun asked with a smile, "The Cao family's daughter-in-law? Mother, who is this young lady? I've never heard you mention her before."
