Chapter 690 Carrying her back
Du Wanchun looked up at him and said, "They're gone. It seems that Madam Wu and Brother Wei have made up as before."
Zhou Ruiyuan smiled, "That's good then."
"Wanchun..." he called softly to her.
Du Wanchun asked in confusion, "Hmm, what's wrong?"
Zhou Ruiyuan squeezed her hand and continued, "It's nothing, I just wanted to call you."
Du Wanchun smiled. "Why did you suddenly want to call me?"
Zhou Ruiyuan put his arm around her and walked slowly forward, looking ahead with a hint of joy in his deep eyes. "I don't know why, but as long as I hear your response, I feel like you're by my side."
"That puts my mind at ease."
Du Wanchun smiled and said, "Then call it again."
Zhou Ruiyuan actually called out to her, his voice as gentle as the wind, "Wanchun..."
Du Wanchun responded softly, "Yes, I'm here."
Zhou Ruiyuan took two steps forward and called out again, "Wanchun..."
Du Wanchun raised her voice slightly and continued calling, "Yes, I'm here..."
As she finished speaking, her face was full of smiles.
That smile was more beautiful than any flower on the mountain.
Zhou Ruiyuan turned his head and looked at her intently, intending to hide her in his house and not allow anyone to see her.
As the two walked, they seemed to have forgotten that there were two little figures behind them.
Mianmian and Qing'er deliberately slowed down to give their father and mother enough time.
They held hands, and although they didn't say much, there was a sweet warmth between them.
Mianmian said slowly, "I think Mother probably won't need to make me hawthorn candy anymore."
Qing'er asked in confusion, "Why?"
Mianmian shuddered. "Looking at her and Daddy, I feel like the sweetness in my mouth tastes bitter."
Qing'er laughed, "Then I'll take you to eat some fruit."
"Fruit, where is the fruit from?" Mianmian asked happily.
Qing'er pointed to a mountain not far away, "You forgot? It's this mountain that has lots of fruit growing on it."
In the past, they often secretly went to pick fruit.
Mianmian smiled and nodded repeatedly.
Qing'er led her and ran towards the other side of the mountain.
Upon seeing this, Du Wanchun called out to them, "Mianmian, Qing'er, where are you going?!"
Mianmian replied, "Mother! Father! Let's go to the mountain to pick fruit!"
Upon hearing this, Du Wanchun tried to call them back, but Zhou Ruiyuan and the others stopped her.
"Fine, let them go."
Du Wanchun didn't call out again, and said with a smile, "That's fine, it just so happens that we can wait to eat the fruit they just picked."
Zhou Ruiyuan put his arm around her shoulder. "How about we go too?"
Du Wanchun shook her head, "No, no, I'm already a little tired."
Upon hearing that she was tired, Zhou Ruiyuan quickly stepped forward, squatted down, and said, "Come on, I'll carry you home."
It takes a short walk along a gravel path from the dock to their house in Changliu Village.
Du Wanchun quickly refused, saying, "No need, no need, I can walk back."
Zhou Ruiyuan seemed not to hear her words and simply carried her on his back, saying, "This road is all gravel, it won't be good if it hurts your feet."
Du Wanchun lay on his back, not daring to move.
Although she looks thin and small, she is not light.
Zhou Ruiyuan got up and walked forward, telling her like an adult, "Don't be stubborn in the future. With me here, you can rely on me."
Du Wanchun gently rested her face against Zhou Ruiyuan's back.
Zhou Ruiyuan's back is broad and warm.
Yellow wild chrysanthemums bloom all around the cobblestone path, and the wind carries their fragrance.
Looking at the flowers, Du Wanchun suddenly said, "Last night, I dreamed of my mother."
Zhou Ruiyuan said slowly, step by step, "Does your mother miss you?"
Du Wanchun nodded gently, "Yes, she said she missed me and asked when I was coming home."
Zhou Ruiyuan slowed his pace, and the smile on his face gradually disappeared. "What did you say?"
Du Wanchun raised her head, reached out and hugged his neck, and replied, "I said I want to go home."
Zhou Ruiyuan's gaze darkened noticeably. For a moment, he felt as if he was about to lose her, but a few seconds later, he was willing to let her go.
"and you......"
Du Wanchun immediately interrupted Zhou Ruiyuan, "However, I want to go home with you."
A flicker of joy immediately returned to Zhou Ruiyuan's previously disappointed eyes. "So your mother agreed?"
Du Wanchun nodded. "That's right, she agreed."
As she finished speaking, she slowly extended her hand in front of Zhou Ruiyuan, "Take a look."
Zhou Ruiyuan looked down and saw a small fine line on her originally smooth and delicate hand.
These fine lines are not noticeable to anyone unless you look closely.
Ordinary people wouldn't care either.
But for Zhou Ruiyuan and Du Wanchun, it held special significance.
Starting last night, Du Wanchun will age normally, just like any other person.
She and Zhou Ruiyuan can grow old together.
What seemed like an ordinary, mundane event turned out to be a source of great joy for the two of them.
Zhou Ruiyuan didn't want to leave before her, and didn't want her to suffer the pain of separation.
Du Wanchun also didn't want to see Zhou Ruiyuan die of old age in front of her.
This is a good thing for both of them.
As the first rays of dawn shone on the horizon, Zhou Ruiyuan continued on his way, carrying Du Wanchun on his back.
