Chapter 88 The Imperial Concubine Miscarried
Although Consort Wu appeared to be a delicate and frail woman, she was extremely vicious, and all the concubines in the harem suffered at her hands.
The young palace maid trembled as she listened to Consort Wu's words. She quickly knelt down and picked up the broken bowl. "Your Highness, you are pregnant with a prince. There's no need to worry."
Upon hearing her words, Consort Wu's anger lessened. She touched her belly and smiled smugly, "Yes, once my prince is born, I will be able to secure my position as Empress. What do I have to fear from Consort Ru or Consort Xian!"
The palace maid poured her another cup of tea. "Your Highness, please don't get angry. Be careful not to upset the baby."
Consort Wu waved her hand, knocking the cup out of her hand, and stood up, saying, "I won't drink. Come with me to Consort Ru's place first, and bring me my coral bracelet while you're at it."
The palace maid was stunned. "Your Highness, are you talking about that coral bracelet that can prevent pregnancy?"
Consort Wu scolded, "Bring it here now!"
The young palace maid quickly shut her mouth and walked outside.
Consort Wu slowly approached her, but perhaps because of her pregnancy, she felt dizzy and felt lightheaded after taking two steps forward.
Lately, she's been having a lot of bad luck, so she's in a very bad mood. She grabbed the table next to her and angrily pushed everything on it to the ground. "How can this baby be so troublesome!"
A series of crackling sounds came from inside the house.
After she finished cursing, she slowly straightened up and walked outside.
As he walked, he happened to step on some bird's nest that had just been spilled on the ground.
The originally smooth road became slippery because of the wet bird's nest, and she slipped and fell backward.
With a loud bang, Consort Wu let out a heart-wrenching scream, "Ah! My stomach!"
The young palace maid who had just gone out to retrieve the coral bracelet hurriedly ran over, "Your Highness, what's wrong?"
Consort Wu, her forehead dripping with cold sweat and her face pale, pointed to her stomach and hurriedly said, "My stomach hurts so much! Quickly, go and call the imperial physician! Quickly, go and call the Emperor!"
The young palace maid was startled to see Consort Wu trembling with pain and immediately got up and rushed out to call the imperial physician.
After summoning the imperial physician, she immediately went to Consort Ru's palace and found the Emperor. "Your Majesty, something terrible has happened! Consort Ru has fallen and has a stomachache!"
Inside the room, the emperor was still embracing his beautiful concubine affectionately. Hearing the noise outside the hall, he frowned and said impatiently, "Is the Imperial Concubine throwing another tantrum?!"
The young palace maid said timidly, "Your Majesty, Her Highness has really fallen. Please go and see her!"
The emperor grew increasingly impatient and snapped, "If you've fallen, go and call the imperial physician! What good is calling me? Go tell her! Don't call me again until you're dead!"
The young palace maid was taken aback and could only bite her lip and retreat.
Consort Wu was carried to bed by palace maids, and two or three doctors came to take her pulse.
Seeing the young palace maid return alone, she endured the cramping pain in her stomach and pointed at her angrily, saying, "Where is the Emperor? Why haven't I seen the Emperor?!"
The young palace maid was so frightened that she knelt down immediately and then told her exactly what the emperor had said.
Upon hearing this, Consort Wu was furious and threw down the medicine box beside her.
The imperial physicians standing nearby were startled, but their faces quickly fell in sighs.
It's truly a case of seeing the new face laughing while the old one cries. Back when the Empress was alive, didn't the Emperor also dote on Consort Wu and neglect the Empress in every way?
Because the Empress was kind and treated the imperial physicians and maids very well, the physicians remembered this and were very happy to see Consort Wu's jealous and envious expression.
Consort Wu grew angrier the more she thought about it, and her stomach ached more and more until finally a gush of hot fluid came out.
This left the imperial physicians, who had been initially delighted, completely stunned.
"Your Majesty, your water has broken; you're likely going into premature labor!"
Despite the pain, Consort Wu pulled up the bed curtains and looked up at the imperial physicians. "Nonsense! My child is only five or six months old. How could it be premature!"
A baby this size born prematurely basically has no chance of survival.
The imperial physicians immediately sensed something was wrong and gathered together to discuss the matter. In the end, they sent one of them to find the emperor.
Not long after, the emperor arrived reluctantly.
He was furious as soon as he entered the room. "You managed to fall down in your own palace! I think you never intended to have this child!"
Consort Wu howled in pain, and hearing the Emperor's scolding only made her more distressed. In a weak voice, she said, "Your Majesty, someone must be trying to harm me! Someone must be trying to harm me! Consort Ru! Yes! It's Consort Ru!"
The Emperor's face turned ashen with rage. He flicked his sleeve and said, "You're just like you were back then. I'm starting to suspect that the Empress was wronged!"
