Without Qi Zhong, a trusted servant, Emperor Cheng'an was no longer as well-informed as before.
By the time he learned what Qi Zhong had said when he was arrested in Dali City, Qi Zhong's words had already spread like wildfire throughout the streets and alleys.
Upon hearing the news, Emperor Cheng'an was so angry that he almost fainted. He pressed his temples hard and roared, "Summon the Minister of the Court of Judicial Review to offer his remonstrance."
Unfortunately, the Minister of Justice had not yet arrived, but the King of Qin arrived first.
Emperor Cheng'an stared at the Prince of Qin, who entered and exited his palace as if it were his own, and cried out in terror, "Guards! There's an assassin! Someone come to my rescue!"
Xue Shen stood not far away, arms crossed, coldly watching him plead for help in a panic, his face full of mockery: "I've already sent everyone outside away, why waste your energy, Your Majesty?"
Emperor Cheng'an glared at him warily: "What do you want to do? Apocryphalism and treason are capital offenses."
Xue Shen chuckled: "I'm only giving you a chance to die a quick death because of my elder brother."
Emperor Cheng'an scoffed at this, saying, "The outcome is still uncertain; don't be too arrogant."
Xue Shen chuckled, looking at him as if he were an ant that could be crushed with a flick of the wrist. I promise to give you a quick death."
Emperor Cheng'an glanced at the edict of self-reproach, and when he saw its contents, his face flushed red and he flew into a rage: "Don't even think about it!"
Xue Shen stared at him coldly, a hint of sinister intent appearing at the corner of his mouth: "This is your own choice."
