Chapter 195: Engage the Enemy

Li Wei followed Chen Fan and others and moved forward along the complex trench system.

The steel plates under my feet creaked, and shells whizzed past my head from time to time.

When passing a medical point marked with a red cross, Li Wei felt that the backpack on her back was really cumbersome, so she simply took it off and asked the medical soldier to keep it for her.

Before letting go, she thought for a moment, opened her backpack again, took out her officer certificate and the "amulet" Huang Lei gave her from the inner pocket, and stuffed them into her tactical waist bag.

As for other things, I won’t feel bad if I lose them.

She even took out a few bags of snacks and threw them to the boy.

"Eat as much as you want, you're welcome."

The young man took the snacks, feeling a little helpless, blushing, and stammering, unable to speak.

......

By the time she came out of the medical center, Chen Fan and the others had already disappeared.

Li Wei didn't care. The 1st Company's defense area was so small anyway, so she just had to move forward.

Three minutes later, she followed the longitudinal communication trench all the way to the forefront of the seventh trench.

There was an observation post protruding from the trench, with a young non-commissioned officer squatting inside, peeking out.

Li Wei remembered him, his name seemed to be Zhou Dai. He was the one who gave guidance when the first gun barrel was installed.

Seeing that there was quite a lot of space inside, Li Wei simply went in as well. While looking out along Zhou Dai's line of sight, she asked, "What are you doing here?"

Zhou Dai was startled by Li Wei's sudden appearance and quickly saluted.

"Captain, I'm responsible for detonating the explosives!"

As he spoke, he stretched out his hand and pointed to the sixth trench hidden in the darkness more than a hundred meters away.

He raised his right hand again, showing the detonator in his hand that looked like a green "big brother".

Li Wei nodded and gave him a thumbs up.

Then she looked around and found that this position was the very front and was a small salient on the front line.

So Li Wei patted Zhou Dai's shoulder in a mature manner, imitating the tone of the leaders in the war movies she had seen before.

"I'm here to protect you, little one."

Zhou Dai was patted by Li Wei's small hand, and was hit by the beauty attack at close range. His face turned red instantly, and he didn't know where to put his hands and feet.

Li Wei was completely unaware of her own charm. She found a reason to stay at the outpost and immediately took up her position and refused to leave.

Her eyes were fixed on the darkness ahead, on the open area where five or six trenches were located, and on the flames exploding from the first four trenches in the distance. Her eyes were filled with anticipation.

......

The silence in the observation post lasted for two or three minutes.

Finally, human figures began to appear in the darkness at the front of the position.

Li Wei heard the sound of the bolt being pulled, the sudden heavy breathing in the battle trench behind her, and the calm commands of the grassroots officers.

However, no one opened fire because the friend-or-foe identification system told them that these figures were their own people.

After a few more seconds, they got closer.

Li Wei saw clearly the warriors appearing in the darkness.

Some of them supported each other, while others carried their unconscious comrades on their backs, getting closer and closer to the defense line.

Gradually, Li Wei saw more clearly.

Almost everyone in this group was injured.

Some had broken arms, legs, or even only the upper half of their bodies left.

Their armors were broken one by one, revealing bloody wounds.

Their faces were covered in charred black and blood, and their eyes were empty and numb.

They were so tired that they seemed like they would fall down at the slightest breeze.

However, they did not fall. Instead, they resolutely crossed the trenches and staggered back to the rear.

Three or two, a dozen or so, and then dozens.

More and more people gathered, but there was no other sound around except footsteps and breathing.

Li Wei actually wanted to be serious and empathetic, but...

[Abyss Essence +97]

[Abyss Essence +211]

......

Each of them would leave a trail of black light after getting 100 meters close to Li Wei.

After everyone left, Li Wei looked at the system panel...

[Essence of the Abyss: →]

She took a deep breath and then slowly exhaled, allowing her fluctuating emotions to calm down.

[I have enough essence to cultivate the Lotus Sword...]

[NND, I didn't do anything, but my essence doubled.]

[I have to say, Lao Gu, you're hurting well...]

As I was sighing, suddenly...

Bang!

Li Wei heard the noise and turned around to see Zhou Dai next to her with a gloomy expression. He pounded his left hand on the alloy plate on the inner wall of the observation post, pursed his lips and said nothing.

She didn't say anything. Her feelings were understandable.

After all, even though she got so much essence, she wasn't very happy, right?

Ignoring Zhou Dai's little mood, Li Wei looked at the panel again.

But she didn't add any points blindly.

She was still a little short of the essence required to upgrade to level 4, and after listening to Zheng Ye's words, she was a little reluctant to upgrade to level 3 immediately.

If she reached the middle third level, she would have to go underground to play "high-end games", which she felt was not worth it.

After all, why bother with that if you can just bully the weak and mow down the weak?

As for the Lotus Sword, she was not in a hurry to cultivate it.

Not knowing how intense the battle would be soon, she planned to keep the "blue bottle" for now and observe the situation.

Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!

While she was thinking, countless points of light passed over Li Wei's head with a sharp scream.

That was their own interdiction fire. Countless shells landed one after another in the darkness hundreds of meters away, exploding into a sky full of flames.
