Chapter 25 Marrying the Right Wife
Ye Beixiu fed the fawn and made sure it was fine, then he fed the little female rabbit he brought home.
He looked at the backyard and planned to build a nest for the little female rabbit in the backyard after dinner.
Before Zhang Juexia started making dumplings, she had already replaced the water in the big pot with new cold water. She deliberately lowered the fire under the pot. By the time she had almost finished making the dumplings, the water in the big pot had boiled.
She lifted the lid of the steaming pot, poured the dumplings on the lid into the boiling water, and stirred them carefully in one direction with a spoon.
Ye Beixiu poked his head into the kitchen and said, "What a nice smell!"
"Go wash your hands quickly, the dumplings will be cooked soon."
"Grandma is right. I really made the right choice by marrying this daughter-in-law. I can have a hot meal every day."
"Just a meal?"
"Two meals! But, my lady, after we sell the fawn tomorrow, if you want three meals a day, that's fine."
The dumplings with bulging bellies were rolling in the boiling water. Zhang Juexia knew from experience that they were cooked.
Take them out with a colander, drain the water and put them on a plate.
Ye Beixiu didn't care about the heat, he picked up a dumpling and put it in his mouth, swallowing it in two or three bites, "My wife, it's delicious, it tastes really good."
He picked up another dumpling and put it into Zhang Juexia's mouth, "Madam, try it too."
Zhang Juexia's mouth was filled with the dumplings that suddenly appeared. The dumplings were still hot and her tongue felt burning, but that couldn't cover up their deliciousness.
She kindly reminded Ye Beixiu, "Don't rush to eat it. Wait until it cools down."
"Um."
Ye Beixiu nodded obediently.
The lid was full of dumplings, and there was not a single one left after two people finished eating.
Ye Beixiu even drank the soup from the dumplings in the pot, "Drinking this is much better than drinking plain water."
Zhang Juexia thought that the original soup should be used to dissolve the original food, but he was also worried that he would be full. "If you drink less, we can leave the soup in the pot and drink it when you are thirsty."
Ye Beixiu finally put down his bowl and said, "I really benefited from you this year. This is my third time eating dumplings."
Zhang Juexia knew the second time they had dumplings was at the old house. "When was your first time?"
"Of course it's Chinese New Year!"
Zhang Juexia felt sad after hearing what Ye Beixiu said, but then he thought of the original owner, and he thought that the two of them might have had similar experiences.
After dinner, Ye Beixiu consciously washed the dishes by the well.
He talked a lot more today. "Thank goodness my father insisted on digging a well at home when he built the house. Otherwise, it would be really inconvenient for us to live here."
Zhang Juexia then remembered that when he went to the old house that day, he didn't see any well in the yard. "How do they get water in the old house?"
"There is a well in the village. They live close to it, so they draw their own water."
Zhang Juexia took the remaining beans to the yard to dry.
When she was about to go to town, she would buy some more beans and dry them in the sun to eat in the winter.
Although Wang Guilan left a message asking them to pick vegetables from the vegetable garden in the old house, Zhang Juexia always felt that people should have a sense of boundaries.
After all, they have separated, and what others give is given, and it would be a bit inappropriate to go to their house and pick it openly.
Ye Beixiu had already carried soil from the mountain, and Zhang Juexia helped him pour water into the soil. "Husband, this rabbit hutch should be made bigger."
"Well, rabbits can reproduce, so we need a bigger pile. Let's make do with this for now. The backyard is big, so we can raise a lot of animals. We'll have to tidy it up when the time comes."
Ye Beixiu was thinking while measuring seriously.
Seeing that she was no longer needed, Zhang Juexia went to pack up the medicinal herbs she had dug.
We went up the mountain in a hurry today, so we only had a small portion of Bupleurum chinense. The rest were some common medicinal herbs such as Polygala tenuifolia, Taraxacum mongolicum, and Plantain.
By the time the two of them finished their work, it was almost dark.
Zhang Juexia's body has become accustomed to two meals a day in recent days, and he doesn't want to cook dinner anymore.
Ye Beixiu didn't complain about being hungry, so she took advantage of this opportunity to go into the house and make a few knots.
Ye Beixiu closed the door, washed himself, and then entered the house.
"Tomorrow we'll get up early and not take the ox cart. Let's go straight through the mountains to the town."
Zhang Juexia understood Ye Beixiu's concerns and didn't want to attract too much attention, but he couldn't help but ask, "Can your legs withstand it?"
"I can do it. I'll rest early. It's not a long way."
"Okay then."
Ye Beixiu lay on the bed and watched Zhang Juexia knitting.
Soon there were bursts of snoring sounds. Zhang Juexia stood up and gently moved his body, and then the sounds stopped.
Zhang Juexia didn't stop until he was too sleepy to open his eyes.
The next day, the two got up early.
I ate a quick bite and prepared to leave.
Ye Beixiu carried the deer and walked in front.
Zhang Juexia followed behind with a basket on her back, which contained herbs and the silk threads she had made.
"Husband, I have agreed with my sister-in-law that I will accompany her to buy colored thread."
"When we pass by the old house, tell my sister-in-law that we'll meet in town."
When the two passed by the old house, they happened to meet Ye Beishan who was carrying water back, and told him about it.
Ye Beishan put down his burden and shouted twice towards the yard, and Li Yiqin ran out, "Beixiu and the others are going to town on foot, why don't we go together!"
"become."
Li Yiqin called Ye Suyun and the five of them set off together.
Ye Beishan took the little deer from Ye Beixiu's shoulder and said, "Good fellow, it looks small but it's quite heavy."
With Ye Beishan's help, Ye Beixiu felt much more relaxed and his steps were faster than before.
Zhang Juexia was a little surprised. Ye Beishan and the others also went up the mountain yesterday. It was impossible that they got nothing!
Li Yiqin's personality meant she would never keep her mouth shut. "Yesterday, Dad, Third Uncle, Beishan, and the others also hunted some rabbits and pheasants. When Third Uncle learned that we were going to buy colored thread, he carried it to town on his back.
I was thinking of going with you on a bullock cart."
“The oxcart is too slow.”
"Of course."
After walking for a while, Zhang Juexia was panting heavily from exhaustion. Li Yiqin took the backpack from her shoulders and said, "You're still not used to walking on mountain roads. You'll get used to it slowly."
"Um."
"What's in your backpack? It looks full, but it's not heavy to carry."
"I went up the mountain and dug up some medicinal herbs, and I also made some thread nets."
Li Yiqin gasped, "Oh my goodness, how lucky is Bei Xiu to have such an amazing wife. Not only can she tie a needle, but she also knows about medicinal herbs."
Ye Beishan turned around and glanced at Li Yiqin. "Don't yell. You don't know these things anyway. You can learn from your sister-in-law."
“I’m not learning this.”
Ye Beishan turned to Zhang Juexia and said, "I'm sorry to bother you, sister-in-law. Your sister-in-law and Suyun are both learning knitting from you."
"We're all family, you're welcome."
