8 Heartstrings (Revised)
◎ She also wanted him to think of her and beg her.◎
The four of them left Yuming Temple together and walked down the long steps. Ye Guifan tactfully left early.
Jiang Yan stood across from Cui Huaifeng, silently observing him. His eyes were calm, cold and still, like a heartless deity in heaven. He treated all beings with equal respect, gentle yet distant. He remained unmoved by the world's love, longing, resentment, and hatred.
She loved his aloofness and was content with it. But she didn't want to be just one of the vast crowd; she wanted to be in his heart. She also wanted him to miss her, beg her, even fear her.
Besides, he wasn't an immortal, after all. He was human. As long as he was human, he had emotions. She didn't believe he wouldn't be moved by her.
Cui Huaifeng was about to say goodbye in advance, but Jiang Yan spoke first.
"Mr. Cui, I have something to give you."
After Jiang Yan finished speaking, he took out a jade flute from his arms. It was white with a hint of green and had a lustrous texture.
Cui Huaifeng slowly raised his head and looked at Jiang Yan in disbelief, then lowered his head and stared at the familiar jade flute intently. Even Zheng Pu, who was waiting on the side, was surprised.
Jiang Yan held the flute and was thinking of the right words, but he didn't catch the shock and joy in Cui Huaifeng's eyes.
"I heard that you have been looking for this flute, so I asked someone to find out, and I found it recently. But I don't know if this is really the one that Mr. Cui wanted." Jiang Yan handed the jade flute to Cui Huaifeng.
Cui Huaifeng gripped the jade flute, a mixture of emotions welling up in his heart. He caressed the flute lovingly, his previously calm expression finally changing. Deep in his eyes was a complex mixture of nostalgia and sadness. Jiang Yan observed his reaction, finding it quite curious.
"I think since Master Cui is so attentive to this, this jade flute must be of special significance to you."
"Yes." Cui Huaifeng nodded, hesitating to speak.
Normally, he would never say much, but he had been searching for this item for a long time without any news. Jiang Yan must have put a lot of effort into it. Cui Huaifeng hesitated for a moment, then explained, "This is a relic of my father."
"Ah..." Jiang Yan felt a little uncomfortable, but at the same time he was faintly happy because he was willing to explain to him the origin of the thing he cared about.
Cui Huaifeng rarely took the initiative to express his gratitude, "Thank you, Sixth Prince."
"It's a small matter, as long as I can help you." Jiang Yan chuckled, his smile scorching.
Cui Huaifeng felt a pang of discomfort in his chest. He pursed his lips and clenched his fingers, "Your Highness... I am not worthy of this."
When Jiang Yan heard this, she didn't feel angry, but rather strange. She asked cautiously, "Master Cui, do you think I'm meddling in your affairs?"
"That's not the case, your Majesty..." Cui Huaifeng didn't dare to meet her concerned gaze, so he could only turn his head slightly and lower his eyes.
Jiang Yan felt a little embarrassed, wondering if he had said something wrong that put pressure on Cui Huaifeng.
Cui Huaifeng couldn't really express his true feelings, so he only said a polite word, "I will remember your kindness today."
Jiang Yan smiled awkwardly, "It's just a piece of cake."
"May I ask how much silver Your Highness the Sixth Prince spent on this item?" Cui Huaifeng asked her.
"It doesn't have to be like this between you and me."
Cui Huaifeng asked again firmly: "How much?"
"It's really not much, just a small amount of money." Cui Huaifeng's seriousness made Jiang Yan a little nervous.
Cui Huaifeng didn't ask any more questions. He simply untied the pouch from his waist and handed it to Jiang Yan. "I didn't take much with me today. I'll have Zheng Pu prepare some more silver and send it to your house tomorrow."
Jiang Yan was in a dilemma, neither accepting nor not accepting. After a moment of hesitation, she was afraid of really making Cui Huaifeng unhappy, so she had no choice but to accept it. After carefully checking the money in her purse, she said helplessly, "It's halfway."
Cui Huaifeng was relieved, "Okay."
Jiang Yan originally wanted to show off, but she still didn't know Cui Huaifeng well enough. Although she wanted to stay with Cui Huaifeng for a while longer, seeing him like this, she had to say goodbye and return home.
Cui Huaifeng watched Jiang Yan leave without saying a word.
