Chapter 4: The Marquis is Wise

When Shen Ruoyan arrived, Lu Ankang was lying in the old lady's arms, crying sadly.

Lu Changchuan stood by with a dark face, being held down by the servants. His fists were clenched tightly, and even his brows were wrinkled into a line.

Lu Yan just stood there quietly, with his head lowered.

"What happened?" Shen Ruoyan walked in, glanced at them, and looked at the old lady: "I heard from the servants that there was a conflict on the young master's side. What happened?"

Hearing this, Lu Yan raised his head. His eyes were red, like a rabbit about to cry.

When Lu Ankang saw Shen Ruoyan, he stepped forward with grievance, "Mother, I just wanted to see the prince's bamboo flute, and he pushed me. Lu Changchuan hit me, and he helped Lu Changchuan bite me! I bit me until I bled!"

There was a tooth mark on Rourou's arm, and it was obvious that the mark was caused by a very hard bite.

"He's lying!" Lu Changchuan roared. "He was the one who tried to steal the prince's bamboo flute. The prince didn't want to give it to him, so he hit him. I couldn't stand it, so I took action!"

The two of them each had their own opinions, but Madam Lu had clearly already made up her mind, "Making a scene in the Marquis' Mansion, what a shame!"

Lu Changchuan's raised head was pushed down by the servant. He gritted his teeth, very dissatisfied.

Lu Yan wanted to help him speak, but when he opened his mouth, no sound came out. He could only anxiously gesture with his hands, but because there was no sound, no one around him noticed.

He lowered his eyes dejectedly, wishing he wasn't mute.

Mrs. Lu happened to see it, and a flash of disgust passed through her eyes.

"Alright, even though it was just a play between children, but since Brother Kang was bitten like this, we must give an explanation. Otherwise, if the news gets out, people will think that our mansion is bullying others by taking advantage of our power."

The smile on Shen Ruoyan's lips froze. His heart was really tilted to the top of his head. The three children were fighting, but they only mentioned Kang Ge's injury, without mentioning the cause and consequence.

He was afraid that others would say that the Marquis' Mansion was bullying others because of its power, but his real intention was to support this bastard!

"Grandma, what do you want to explain?" Shen Ruoyan still had a smile on her face, but the smile did not reach her eyes.

Old Madam Lu looked at her suspiciously, feeling that her granddaughter-in-law's temperament seemed to have changed a lot since she fell into the water.

But after all, he was someone who almost died, so some changes are normal.

"Since the three children don't get along, Kang Ge will live with me from now on. This will prevent him from attracting the attention of the prince and getting bullied again."

She hugged Kang Ge in her arms with a distressed look, but she was timid when she spoke to Lu Yan, "Prince, as the prince of the Marquis's Mansion, you should be more generous. Kang Ge just came to the Marquis' Mansion, and these are just some small things. What's wrong with you lending them to him to have a look?"

Lu Yan's pupils gradually dilated. He didn't understand why his great-grandmother, who had loved him the most, would show him such a disgusted expression.

He silently opened his mouth, wanting to defend himself, but in the end, he could only bite his lip in grievance and nodded.

Lu Changchuan glared in anger. It was Lu Ankang who had snatched the things, so why did he ask the prince to be magnanimous?!

Is this old woman getting senile and confused?

"Grandmother, you are wrong. Even though it is just a child's play, we should still distinguish right from wrong. Otherwise, others will think that we in the Marquisate cannot distinguish right from wrong."

Shen Ruoyan's eyes flashed, and he said sternly: "Why are you still suppressing Master Changchuan? Who is the master and who is the master? Do you still want me to teach you?!"

The two servants looked around, unable to make up their minds. But it was Madam Lu who glanced at them and finally let Lu Changchuan go.

Shen Ruoyan did not let go, "Brother Kang and Changchuan will both be the sons of the Marquis' Mansion in the future, so be careful!"

Old Madam Lu was somewhat displeased. How could Lu Changchuan, a posthumous child from the same clan, be compared with her brother Kang?

But when she thought of Kang Ge's life experience, she paused and said nothing.

"It's just a fight between a few kids, what's the big deal?" Old Madam Lu was unhappy.

"That's hard to say." Shen Ruoyan squatted down slightly and asked Kang Ge, who was curled up in the old lady's arms, with a smile, "Kang Ge, you said you just wanted to see the prince's flute, so after seeing it, did you return it to him?"

That bamboo flute was a birth gift given by Lu Jing to Lu Yan. It was the only one he had in all these years, so he treasured it like his life.

Lu Ankang's eyes flashed, "I, I gave it back to him."

"Oh? Really?" Shen Ruoyan slowly stood up. When she met Kang Ge's cautious gaze, her tone suddenly changed and she shouted angrily, "How dare you! You've learned to lie at such a young age. Who taught you?!"

On the way here, she learned what had happened from the servants.

Shen Ruoyan raised her voice: “The servants all said that you stole the prince’s bamboo flute, not only did you not return it to him, you also threatened to throw it into the pond!”

If it weren't for this, with Lu Yan's temperament, he wouldn't be easily angered.

Lu Ankang was shocked. He had never met an adult who was so cruel to him. Tears streamed down his face. "Great-grandmother, I'm scared. Brother Kang is scared..."

"Why are you yelling at a child?" Madam Lu patted Brother Kang's back distressedly, extremely dissatisfied. "Even if Brother Kang snatched it, so what? It takes two to tango. The prince must have done something to make him act like this!"

Lu Yan's small body suddenly became stiff. He still remembered that his great-grandmother would hold him gently in her arms, coax him to sleep and fan him.

But since he became mute, his great-grandmother became a different person - someone who would never be kind to him again.

His eyes were hot, but he kept them open to prevent the tears from falling.

"The Marquis is back!"

Just when the atmosphere reached a stalemate, Lu Jing walked in from outside.
