Chapter 17 Do you think I'm afraid of what others will say?
Jiang Yu likes to think at night because it's quiet and the darkness seems to help her think more clearly.
She lay on the table, resting her chin on her hand, remaining silent for a long time before calling out towards the door, "Granny Liao."
Outside, Granny Liao responded and walked in quietly. Jiang Yu asked her to sit down, and Granny Liao moved a small stool and sat down beside her.
"I've just arrived at the manor and I'm not familiar with anything. I'm so grateful to Granny for helping me today," Jiang Yu said with a smile.
Granny Liao quickly said, "Miss, you're too kind to this old servant. It's all what this old servant should do."
Jiang Yu smiled at her and asked, "Has Steward Li told Granny about my matter?"
Granny Liao shook her head, and Jiang Yu continued, "Granny, there's something I must tell you. There are still many things for you and Steward Li to do."
She didn't speak very seriously, but Granny Liao realized that what Jiang Yu was about to say would be very important, so she straightened up and said seriously, "Miss, please speak."
Jiang Yu thought to herself, "As expected of someone close to the Duke of Chu, he is very good at reading people."
"Granny, I was married, but I got divorced later." Jiang Yu's voice was very calm, as if she wasn't the one who got divorced.
Granny Liao opened her mouth in shock, then realized she had lost her composure and quickly composed herself.
Jiang Yu was very satisfied with her performance. Next, she told her about her entanglement with Qi Yuanhong and Su Yuezhen, and then said, "Granny, this matter cannot be hidden, and I don't want to hide it. I want to expose it on my own initiative, and make a big fuss about it."
Having served the Duke of Chu for many years, Granny Liao had seen a lot of the world, but hearing Jiang Yu handle her divorce so calmly, she was both shocked and impressed. Few women could do that.
Then Jiang Yu said again, "Granny, I want you to tell all the households in the mansion about my divorce tomorrow. Don't hide any details. Tell them whatever they want to know."
"Yes, this old servant will definitely handle things well," said Granny Liao earnestly.
Jiang Yu nodded and added, "I also want everyone in the capital to know about this."
"This..." Granny Liao looked puzzled.
Jiang Yu didn't explain to her, and continued to make arrangements, "I will write a notice, and tomorrow I will have Butler Li find someone to make it, and then post it in the downtown area and distribute it to pedestrians on the street."
"This...this...this..." Granny Liao's hands trembled with shock.
In this male-dominated society, even if a woman is divorced but not officially abandoned, she still can't hold her head high and will be pointed at and gossiped about. If this matter is made public like this, how will this young lady live in the future!
Seeing her trembling hands, Jiang Yu said helplessly, "Granny, do you think I'm afraid of what others will say?"
Looking at her calm and confident face, Liao Mama's somewhat panicked heart calmed down a lot, and she shook her head.
"Moreover," Jiang Yu added, "it was Qi Yuanhong who betrayed us, and it was Su Yuezhen who wanted my life. I did nothing wrong. They are the ones who should be blamed, not me. Why should I be afraid of what others say?"
After thinking about what she said for a while, Granny Liao said, "Miss, you are right. They are the ones who have done all the bad things, and they are the ones who should be condemned and afraid."
Jiang Yu smiled, "Granny, you all need to have this mindset regarding my divorce."
Granny Liao nodded repeatedly, "The young lady is right."
"Alright, it's late, get some rest." Jiang Yu stood up, and Granny Liao followed behind her, saying, "This old servant will serve you a bath."
Jiang Yu waved her hand, "No need, let Xia He do it, you must be tired today."
Granny Liao acknowledged and withdrew. Xia He followed Jiang Yu into the bathroom. Everything was ready, and Xia He helped Jiang Yu undress and enter the bathtub. Enveloped in the warmth, Jiang Yu sighed comfortably. Xia He rubbed her back, opening her mouth as if to say something, but then remained silent.
"Just say what you want to say," Jiang Yu said.
Xia He pursed her lips and said, "This servant feels that you, Miss, are not as comfortable and happy in the Duke's mansion as you are in our town."
Jiang Yu stretched out her body, letting herself completely relax, and said with her eyes closed, "Yes, when we were in town, there weren't so many people and so many things to do, and the business was already on track, so I basically didn't have to manage it. But, the young lady from the Qingshan Marquis's mansion wants my life, so we can't continue to be so comfortable."
Xia He pouted and said, "It's all that heartless man's fault. If it weren't for him, Miss wouldn't be suffering so much."
Jiang Yu kept her eyes closed and didn't speak. Xia He sensed that she was feeling down and whispered, "This servant shouldn't have mentioned him."
“It’s alright, he’s not important anymore,” Jiang Yu murmured.
The fact that she was able to marry Qi Yuanhong shows that she had feelings for him, and quite deep ones at that. Was she heartbroken when Qi Yuanhong suddenly changed his mind?
There was a little bit of that, but Jiang Yu's main emotions were anger and resentment at the betrayal. She was someone who could let go easily; from the moment she learned that Qi Yuanhong had betrayed her, Jiang Yu had not felt a shred of soft-heartedness or lingering affection.
She's also a vengeful person, so Qi Yuanhong will never have an easy time in this lifetime.
After taking a bath for a while, Jiang Yu went back to the study to write a notice, and then went back to her bedroom to rest.
After a sleepless night, Jiang Yu got up at the crack of dawn the next day. She warmed up first and then started practicing her boxing. This was a habit she had maintained for many years, and even when she lived a comfortable life in previous years, she never stopped.
Xia He had been by her side for many years and had learned some things, practicing alongside her. When Granny Liao and the other servants saw her, they were initially shocked, but later they thought that this young lady looked so energetic and spirited.
After Jiang Yu finished practicing her boxing, she went to wash up. A little while later, the old woman from the kitchen came to deliver the food, accompanied by Ning Shuang, the personal maid of the Crown Prince's wife, Lu Yifang.
"Greetings, Miss." Ning Shuang bowed to Jiang Yu and then said, "Madam said she would like to take you to the Ningyuan Marquis's residence today to meet the Marquis and his wife, as well as the master and mistress of the Marquis's residence."
Jiang Yu sat down at the dining table and said, "Tell my mother that I will go to see her after I finish eating."
"Yes." Ning Shuang bowed and withdrew.
Jiang Yu asked Xia He to go to the study to get the notice and give it to Granny Liao. Then she said, "Have Steward Li find someone to print it and post it in the downtown area and distribute it to pedestrians."
Granny Liao looked down at the notice, then gave Jiang Yu a thumbs up, saying, "Young Miss, you have excellent writing skills."
Jiang Yu smiled. In her previous life, she studied law in college, but she loved literature and studied it extensively. After arriving here, she read even more books; it could be said that she had learned everything Qi Yuanhong had learned.
Granny Liao took the notice away. After Jiang Yu finished her meal and changed her clothes, she took Xia He to Lu Yifang's courtyard.
