Chapter 457 How could she not hate?
Su Yun's parents were servants of the Yu family. Su Yun's uncle's family was part of the dowry of the original wife of the King of Lingnan. At the height of Pei Tinglan's power struggle with the original wife, Su Yun's uncle's family was killed by Pei Tinglan.
This shows how deep Su Yun's hatred for Pei Tinglan runs. Moreover, her orders were for Pei Tinglan to personally pay respects at the grave of the old Duke of Chu. Now that Pei Tinglan says she will write a letter and asks Su Yun to burn it at the old Duke of Chu's grave, Su Yun is naturally unable to complete the task.
She knelt down beside Pei Tinglan's legs and gently massaged them, saying, "It is certainly possible for me to burn what you want to say to the old Duke of Chu. It is just a pity that you did not visit him in person after making such a rare trip to the capital. I wonder when the Prince will be able to come to the capital again."
Pei Tinglan's aged hands clenched tightly together. Su Yun glanced at her furtively and gently pounded her legs with her own hands. But she could feel that Pei Tinglan's body was becoming increasingly tense, clearly angry.
Su Yun silently massaged her legs for a while, then said softly, "Yesterday, when I went out to gather information, I ran into Lady Anyuan. She went into a jewelry shop with a lady from the Tang family. Alas! It seems that the relationship between the two families is as close as rumored. No wonder Lady Anyuan spoke to you so kindly at the banquet."
Upon hearing this, Pei Tinglan's anger flared. She shoved Su Yun to the ground, her eyes blazing with fury as she stared at her. Su Yun quickly knelt before her and kowtowed, "Your Highness, this servant knows she was wrong."
Pei Tinglan stared intently at her, her eyes burning with fury, and asked in a hoarse voice, "Are there any rumors about me outside?"
Su Yun knelt on the ground, trembling, and shook her head vigorously. But Pei Tinglan refused to believe her and said sternly, "Speak!"
Su Yun raised her head and glanced at her carefully, then immediately lowered her head and replied truthfully, "No one outside is spreading your words, but the deep affection between the old Duke of Chu and his wife has been brought up again."
"Smack!"
A water glass was smashed to the ground, and a shard of porcelain hit Su Yun's face, instantly drawing blood. But Su Yun kept her head down, too afraid to move.
Pei Tinglan's face was pale, twisted with ruthlessness and resentment. It took a while for her complexion to return to normal. Looking at Su Yun kneeling on the ground with drooping eyelids, she said, "Do you have a way to get me out of the manor?"
Su Yun was secretly delighted, but dared not show it on her face. She said tremblingly, "Although the Prince's mansion in the capital doesn't have many servants and it's easy for you to leave, the Prince forbids you from leaving. If you're discovered... if you're discovered..."
Su Yun trembled and dared not speak the rest. Pei Tinglan snorted coldly, "You don't need to be afraid. I am his mother. What can he do even if he finds out? Hurry up and prepare."
Su Yun hesitated for a moment, but seeing Pei Tinglan's sharp gaze, she immediately agreed and quickly got up to leave. Pei Tinglan sat there, narrowing her eyes. Now that she had come to the capital and Jiang Jinglan was dead, she wanted to tell him in person that she was now the Princess Consort of Lingnan.
She had held this grudge in her heart for decades. Now that she was back in the capital, even if she couldn't vent her anger in public, she wanted Jiang Jinglan to know that even without marrying him, she could still achieve a position that everyone envied. The Lingnan Prince's Mansion was even more prestigious than the Duchess of Chu.
...
Su Yun quickly spread the word, and Jiang Yu received the message an hour later. Looking at the letter in her hand, a mocking, cold smile curved her lips. Bringing Pei Tinglan to the capital was the biggest mistake the Prince of Lingnan had ever made.
She put down the letter, summoned the housekeeper, and gave him a series of instructions, eagerly awaiting the show to begin tomorrow.
...
The early autumn morning was already a bit chilly. The servant guarding the back gate of the Lingnan Prince's Mansion had been drinking the night before, and because of the cool weather, he was fast asleep in his blankets.
Su Yun helped Pei Tinglan tiptoe to the back door, took out the duplicated key, quietly opened the door, and then pulled Pei Tinglan out. A carriage was already waiting outside.
"Your Highness, please get in the carriage." Su Yun helped Pei Tinglan into the carriage and then got in herself. She then gave an order to the coachman, and the carriage started moving.
Seeing that she had left the mansion so easily, Pei Tinglan looked at Su Yun and said, "You do have some ability."
Su Yun smiled shyly, "Last night, I had someone invite Zhao Er, the gatekeeper, to drink. He got completely drunk and definitely won't be able to get up today."
Pei Tinglan nodded, then closed her eyes to rest. Su Yun gently lifted the carriage curtain, saw someone outside, nodded slightly to that person, and then lowered the curtain again. Pei Tinglan sensed her movement but didn't pay it any mind.
The carriage quickly arrived at the city gate. Few people were leaving the city in the early morning, and the carriage smoothly exited, heading towards Cangwu Mountain. The journey didn't take long, less than half an hour.
"Whoa..." With a shout from the coachman, the carriage stopped. Su Yun lifted the curtain to look out again, then whispered to Pei Tinglan, "Your Highness, we've arrived."
Upon hearing this, Pei Tinglan clasped her aged hands together, her lips tightening into a straight line. Su Yun didn't urge her, waiting for her. They had already arrived; turning back was impossible.
"Let's go." Pei Tinglan's voice, tinged with the weariness of time, rang out, and Su Yun quickly helped her out of the car.
Pei Tinglan, supporting Su Yun's hand, slowly steadied herself. Her thin fingers still clutched the hem of her clothes. She looked around and saw that the Cangwu Mountain in early autumn was lush and green, covered with tall pines and cypresses. Under the morning light, the pine needles shone with a clear and bright light.
A breeze swept by, making the whole mountain rustle and rustle, exuding a fresh and vibrant atmosphere. The mountain slopes gently, as if supporting the land, and at its foot, a stream glistens with golden light in the morning glow.
Even though she didn't know much about feng shui, Pei Tinglan couldn't help but exclaim, "This is truly a feng shui treasure land."
"Your Highness, let's go." Su Yun called softly. Pei Tinglan withdrew her gaze and was helped by Su Yun to walk up the mountain.
"The cemetery is halfway up the mountain; we don't need to go too far," Su Yun said softly.
Pei Tinglan nodded with mixed feelings. If she hadn't fallen into the water, she would have been buried here after her death. But everything changed after that fall. She had to leave the capital and go to Lingnan, a thousand miles away. She had to serve as a concubine in the backyard of the Lingnan Prince's mansion, bowing and paying respects to others, and fighting with people until she no longer recognized herself.
While it wasn't entirely Jiang Jinglan's fault, if he had insisted more back then, she wouldn't have suffered for so many years. Therefore, how could she not hate Jiang Jinglan and the Duke of Chu's mansion!
