Chapter One is Interesting
The warm spring sun shines through the carved window lattice into the study, which is filled with the fragrance of ink.
Before a large sandalwood desk stood a woman in a long, flowing crimson dress. She held a calligraphy brush, gazing with satisfaction at the four powerful characters written on the paper:
Scumbag, go to hell!
The beaded curtain swayed, and the maid Xia He entered. "Miss, the young master and that woman have sent me again to urge you. They also said..."
Xia He hesitated, as if she wanted to say something, but Jiang Yu picked up the words she had just written, crumpled them up, and threw them into the wastebasket, saying in a calm voice, "What else is there to say?"
Xia He carefully observed her expression and said, "They even said... if you don't go to see them soon, they're going to break in."
Jiang Yu's lips curled into a mocking smile. She straightened her sleeves and strode out. "Looks like they can't wait a moment longer!"
A gentle spring breeze was blowing outside. Jiang Yu glanced at the pink peach tree in the corner of the yard and said to the old woman standing at the door, "Cut down that peach tree."
This peach tree was planted by her and Qi Yuanhong when they got engaged. Over the course of six years, she watched it grow from a small branch to a large tree, just as she had supported Qi Yuanhong step by step from a student to a scholar, then to a successful candidate in the provincial examination, and finally to the top scholar in the imperial examination.
Unexpectedly, after Qi Yuanhong became the top scholar in the imperial examination, he wanted to marry a woman from a wealthy family, forcing his wife, who had shared his hardships, to leave him.
Oh!
Jiang Yu walked at a leisurely pace. When she reached the entrance of the hall, she saw Qi Yuanhong talking to the woman with his head down. Their hair was intertwined, and their relationship was extremely ambiguous.
Jiang Yu walked straight to the head seat and sat down, separating the two. Qi Yuanhong looked slightly embarrassed, but the woman's expression remained unchanged.
"Among scholars, farmers, artisans, and merchants, merchants are the lowest of the low. Honglang is now a top scholar, and you, a mere merchant's daughter, will only hinder his career. If you know what's good for you, you should ask to leave." The woman's lips parted with an air of unbridled arrogance.
Jiang Yu looked at her; she was dressed in red, adorned with pearls and jade, with a delicate nose and red lips, exuding wealth and glamour.
This is a noblewoman from a high-ranking family.
"You think so too?" Jiang Yu asked Qi Yuanhong.
Qi Yuanhong met her gaze, then immediately looked away. He said, "Yu Niang, although Yuezhen's words were a bit blunt, they are reasonable. Just agree."
Jiang Yu looked at him and remained silent for a moment before asking, "How do you want me to ask to step down?"
"Let's get a divorce." Qi Yuanhong took out a piece of paper and handed it to Jiang Yu.
Jiang Yu didn't look at it, and asked again, "What if I don't agree?"
"Yu Niang, let's part ways amicably." Qi Yuanhong's voice carried a threat.
"A clean break?" Jiang Yu looked down at the divorce papers in her hand and said, "When you were ten years old, you came to my family's shop with your clothes patched all over, begging my parents to give you a job, saying that you couldn't survive."
Later, when you wanted to study, you knelt before my parents, begging them to send you to school, swearing that you would be grateful to them for the rest of your life and would take care of them in their old age. Later still, you passed the imperial examination and became a scholar, and again knelt before my parents, swearing that you would never leave me and asking to marry me.
For thirteen years, my parents treated you like their own child. How much money from the Jiang family did you spend on writing materials, tuition, and friendships? Have you ever calculated it?
Qi Yuanhong blushed with embarrassment at these words, while Su Yuezhen looked angry. She hadn't expected that there was such a deep bond between Qi Yuanhong and Jiang Yu.
"If you don't want a divorce agreement, how about I give you a letter of separation?" Su Yuezhen said, tilting her chin up as she looked at Jiang Yu.
"Are you sure?" Jiang Yu looked back at him indifferently.
"Honglang, write a letter of divorce." Su Yuezhen's words were unquestionable. Qi Yuanhong looked at Jiang Yu with a "difficult" expression, "Yu Niang, do we really have to make such a fuss?"
Jiang Yu remained silent, but an old woman standing behind Su Yuezhen spoke up. She looked at Jiang Yu and said, "Madam Jiang, you live in the marketplace and may not have heard of the Qingshan Marquis's Mansion in the capital. The current Imperial Concubine comes from the Qingshan Marquis's Mansion, and the Imperial Concubine is my young lady's aunt."
"Madam Jiang, know your place. Neither the Earl of Qingshan's mansion nor the Imperial Concubine are people you can afford to offend."
With the combined pressure of the Qingshan Marquis's mansion and the Imperial Concubine looming over him, Jiang Yu remained silent. Qi Yuanhong's expression eased considerably, while Su Yuezhen became even more arrogant.
“I didn’t mean to use my power to bully people,” Su Yuezhen said, glancing at Jiang Yu out of the corner of her eye, “but you don’t know what’s good for you. A street vendor like you thinks you can continue to cling to Honglang? Then don’t blame me for being impolite.”
She looked at Qi Yuanhong and said again, "Honglang, write her a letter of divorce."
Qi Yuanhong looked at Jiang Yu with some reluctance. After thinking for a moment, he said, "Yu Niang, take the divorce papers and we'll go to the yamen to file them."
"No, you must write her a letter of divorce." Su Yuezhen looked at Qi Yuanhong with displeasure. "What if Honglang still has feelings for her?"
“No,” Qi Yuanhong said immediately, then his eyes showed determination. “Fine, I’ll write the letter of divorce right away.”
Jiang Yu found it utterly ridiculous. Did these two think they could just write a letter of divorce whenever they wanted?
At this moment, a middle-aged man in gray walked in from outside. He went to Jiang Yu's side, his back slightly bent, and said, "Miss, we've found out."
He presented a stack of papers with both hands. Jiang Yu took them, opened them, and then her eyes held a meaningful look. She asked the middle-aged man, "Where is he?"
"I've brought the little guy back," the middle-aged man said.
Jiang Yu nodded in satisfaction, "Bring him in."
"Yes," the middle-aged man in gray replied and left.
Looking at the man's retreating figure, Su Yuezhen asked the old woman behind her in a low voice, "I think I've seen this man before in the capital."
The old woman seemed to be thinking, "This old servant also feels that she looks somewhat familiar."
The two men began to look at Jiang Yu with some wariness.
The old woman said, "Madam Jiang, what use is it if you know one or two people in the capital? The Imperial Concubine is our young lady's own aunt."
Jiang Yu picked up her teacup, took a small sip, and then said, "I know."
"If you know, then behave yourself." Su Yuezhen's nostrils were practically pointing to the sky.
Jiang Yu gave a noncommittal "hmm," at which point the man in gray led in a slender young man.
The man was tall and slender, with exquisite features, a high nose bridge, and naturally red lips. He possessed an elegant demeanor with a captivating charm.
What a beautiful face!
When Su Yuezhen saw this man, her almond-shaped eyes widened in shock, and she couldn't utter a single word, her rosy lips parted. Qi Yuanhong, on the other hand, looked completely bewildered.
"Greetings, Miss." Song Yushu bowed to Jiang Yu without looking to the side, seemingly oblivious to Su Yuezhen's shock.
Jiang Yu waved his hand and said, "Young Master Song, please sit down."
Song Yushu walked over and sat down, right opposite Su Yuezhen.
"Jade Book..."
"Miss." The old woman behind Su Yuezhen pressed down on her shoulder, her voice carrying a warning. Su Yuezhen seemed to resign herself to her fate and lowered her head, but Jiang Yu saw tears welling up in her eyes.
