Chapter 6 Humble

After dinner, Wang washed the dishes, sat on the kang, lit the small oil lamp, and started embroidery again. A Lu and Da Bao scooped some water into the pot and turned down the fire in the stove.

Afterwards, A Lu and Da Bao also sat on the kang, took out an old book and put it under the oil lamp to learn Chinese characters, while Chen Ming taught them. Only Chen A Fu, who had nothing to do, sat farthest from the lamp, watching the others working and studying.

Originally, Chen Afu wanted to go to the yard to stretch her muscles, but Wang and Chen Dabao didn't want her to do that because they were afraid that she would fall.

The book they were reading was the Thousand Character Classic. It was obvious that Chen A-Lu was not as fluent as Chen Da-bao. Da-bao seemed to have memorized some of the text, but in order to wait for A-Lu, he still patiently followed A-Lu to recite it repeatedly. It was not that Chen A-Lu was stupid, but that Chen Da-bao was too smart. He was only four years old, and he was really a little genius.

No wonder Chen Ming doesn’t look like a typical farmer, it turns out he can read.

Seeing Wang's narrowed eyes, Chen Afu thought about exercising her body quickly to free her from doing embroidery work at night. If she continued like this, she would become blind in a few years.

Wang was very good at embroidery, but she only took on small items such as delicate handkerchiefs and purses, and the largest was a round fan. Perhaps, this kind of item was easy to embroider and made money quickly.

As for Ayuan’s lame leg, if it was caused by a fall, we should find a way to spend money to find a good doctor to treat it.

While Chen Ahfu was daydreaming, the swallows outside the window started to make noise again. There was a swallow's nest under the eaves, and there were two swallows in it. She thought of the swallow in her dream again, and thought of the space text. She suddenly felt a little happy. Could she have brought the space to farm? The little swallow couldn't get out of the space, so it was angry and complained to her.

The answer can only be found after this body is restored.

Thinking of space and spiritual objects, Chen Afu's spirits were lifted. He had to get his body in shape quickly to seek answers to the unknown.

She stood up and walked to the table on the kang, sitting next to Chen Dabao, and followed Chen Dabao and Chen Alu to read aloud. In this way, she not only found the source of the words for herself to recognize in the future, but also exercised her throat muscles, mouth and tongue. However, her broken gong-like voice mixed with the two clear and pleasant voices of the little boys seemed unusually abrupt.

Not only did the whole family not dislike her, they were extremely happy.

Around 11 p.m., everyone would rest except Wang who was rushing to finish her work.

Chen Ahfu shamelessly asked the two children to pour water for her to wash her face and feet, and then washed her face and feet and took off her clothes by herself. Chen Dabao was so moved that he kept praising her, "Mom is so capable, you don't even need Dabao and little uncle to help you."

However, the little boy still helped to wipe her feet, because as soon as she lifted her feet, her body fell on the kang and she almost kicked Dabao to the ground.

Dabao covered her with the quilt, went out to wash his face and feet, and then got on the kang and got into the quilt. Chen Afu took the opportunity to hug him in his arms, just like hugging a pillow in his previous life. However, this little pillow was too thin, not soft at all, and a little prickly.

Dabao also hugged Chen Afu with his thin arms and said, "Mom, I am not playing tricks. I will always be your son. I will be filial to you and provide for your old age."

At the dinner table, Chen Ming and Wang asked them not to tell anyone about Chen Afu's improved condition. Although they didn't tell him the reason, the sensitive little guy still worried. He hoped that his mother would recover, but he was also afraid that if his mother recovered, his great grandmother, great grandmother, and aunt Aju would drive him away and not let him be his mother's son. They, as well as some people in the village, said that he was a wild child picked up by the Chen family to be raised by a fool.

Chen Afu comforted him, "Well, Dabao is - mother's son, no one - can change that." Although his words were slow, they were still powerful.

After hearing this, the little guy was so moved that he buried his head in Chen Afu's arms.

Chen Ahfu asked again, "Grandpa - can you still read?"

Chen Dabao said, "Yes. Great grandmother often said that grandpa passed the imperial examination in his early years. If he had not had lung disease, he would have definitely become a juren..." He then said proudly, "Mom, in fact, I can recite half of the Thousand Character Classic, and all of the Three Character Classic and Hundred Family Names, but I can't recognize all the characters in them, and I can't write them."

"My son is very capable, very good." Chen Ahfu praised him. Children should be praised, not to mention that this child is so smart that it is infuriating. He added, "When mom recovers from her illness, I will buy her pens, inkstones, and inkstones so that Dabao can go to school."

Chen Dabao was so happy that he pulled his little head out of her arms, looked at her with wide eyes and asked, "Really?" The moonlight shining through the window lattice fell into his eyes, making them look even brighter and more dazzling.

He completely trusted this silly mother.

"Yes." Chen Afu agreed.

Dabao smiled for a while and said, "If mother makes money, she should cure my uncle's leg first. Great grandmother always said that it was because she kept us two idlers that she didn't have extra money to pay for my uncle's medical treatment..."

The voices became increasingly faint, and soon snoring sounds were heard.

Chen Ahfu wanted to ask how Ahyuan's leg became lame, but he had already fallen asleep. Ahfu fell asleep very late, she closed her eyes and thought about something, and also made oral exercises, opening her mouth, closing her mouth, sticking out her tongue...

After a good night's sleep, Chen Ahfu was awakened by the sound of chickens and birds the next day. The sky was getting light, and the morning sun shone in through the small window.

Chen Ahfu turned sideways, Dabao was still awake. This child was really good-looking, with fair skin, thick eyebrows, long and slightly upward eyeliner, long and curly eyelashes, a straight and upright nose, thin lips with sharp edges, and a shallow groove on his chin. This chin is called a beauty groove chin in modern times.

He is such a handsome boy that only appears once every thousand years. She had watched many movies and TV shows in her previous life, but she had never seen such a beautiful child star. From modern times to ancient times, if you count it this way, it is a thousand years.

The only drawback is that it's too thin.

He pouted from time to time and even murmured. Only then did he look like a real child. During the day, he was too mature, so mature that it made people feel sad.

Fortunately, the boy was wearing tattered clothes during the day and his face was dirty, so it didn't stand out so much.

Dabao didn’t know what he was dreaming about. He frowned and muttered, “Mom, mom, please don’t leave me…”

Chen Afu sighed slightly. Come to think of it, he knew at such a young age that he was adopted, and was the son of a fool. With such a humble status, he was still afraid of getting lost, being kicked out of the house, and becoming homeless. So, he had to please everyone, especially this silly mother, and he had to have a place in this family... Despite the care of Chen Ming and Wang, he still felt that he was surviving in the cracks and living cautiously.
