Chapter 563: The River at the Village Entrance (2/2)

As soon as they got off the car, Lin Xi and her friends met the school teachers who had arrived here in advance, including Professor Huang, who Lin Xi was quite familiar with.

After getting off the bus, the teacher in charge did not let everyone disperse immediately. Instead, he first restored discipline and reminded everyone of various rules before leading everyone to the homes of the villagers who had rented houses in advance.

During this trip, Lin Xi and the others discovered that although this place was indeed very remote, the local villagers were not as poor as they had imagined, and they even lived a very comfortable and prosperous life.

What was a little different from what Xu Jing and her friends had imagined was that although some villagers still lived in traditional attic buildings, most of the villagers had actually built buildings.

At first glance, it doesn't look much different from other villages.

Xu Jing and the others prayed quietly, hoping they could find a home with the villagers who lived in traditional attics.

Lin Xi didn't have any special thoughts about this. For her, it didn't matter where she lived.

While waiting for the teacher to take them to the corresponding villagers' homes, Lin Xi was also looking at the situation nearby.

The natural scenery here is really nice, with mountains, water and greenery all around.

But the only thing that made her frown was the river at the entrance of the village.

It looks like an ordinary river. The water is clear and you can see small stones at the bottom of the river if you look down.

Logically speaking, a river with clear water right at the entrance of the village should have traces of villagers washing clothes and other things.

Having such a river makes it very convenient to wash things from time to time.

But the reality was that the embankments on both sides of the river were overgrown with weeds, and there was no road leading to the river, nor any footsteps.

In other words, the villagers never went to the river or used the water from the river.

This is obviously strange.

Lin Xi couldn't help but think of the conversation between the proprietress and her niece.

Sacrifice.

However, at present, there are no other problems with this river except that the villagers have not approached or used it.

While Lin Xi was observing the river, the team leader had already taken several girls from their dormitory to the doorsteps of the corresponding villagers.

"...Lin Xi, you guys will stay here temporarily. This is Aunt Cui, the roommate. She will take you to your room. If you have any questions, remember to contact the teacher."

After the teacher sent them to Aunt Cui, he continued to lead other students to find houses. After making sure that Lin Xi and the others understood, he left quickly.

Aunt Cui is a woman in her forties with a chubby face and a very kind smile.

Lin Xi quickly glanced at Aunt Cui's face and knew that Aunt Cui was a kind and amiable person, so he didn't pay any more attention to her.

I guess the school must have investigated the situation in the village, as well as the characters and temperaments of the villagers, before arranging accommodation for them.

So along the way, Lin Xi found that the villagers where the classmates in front of him stayed were basically honest people.

Aunt Cui is a very nice and welcoming person. Xu Jing and the others quickly adapted to the place and were no longer so reserved.

However, the only regret is that Aunt Cui's house is a two-story building, not the traditional attic they expected.

But on the bright side, Aunt Cui's house has many rooms and she is the only one at home, so Lin Xi and the others don't have to live in a crowded place.

With the help of Aunt Cui, Lin Xi and the others quickly entered the room and put down their belongings. Then, under Aunt Cui's guidance, they found out where the bathroom and kitchen were.

After they recognized the room, Aunt Cui greeted them with a smile.

"You guys take a rest first, I'll go wash some melons for you!"

After saying that, he went straight out to the fields without caring how Xu Jing and the others refused.

Seeing this, Xu Jing couldn't help but sigh.

"Aunt Cui is so enthusiastic."

Lin Xi nodded in agreement.

Thinking about Aunt Cui’s enthusiasm, several girls discussed it and decided to give Aunt Cui a gift.

A few people scraped together some food from their pockets and put it together to make a big bag.

When Aunt Cui came back with some late-ripening melons from her own field, she saw the gifts Lin Xi and the others had given her.

I was so surprised and delighted.

In the end, both sides pushed and blocked each other, but still accepted each other's kindness.

This kind of occasion is what Lin Xi is least good at, so she can only stand at the back silently.

It was not until Xu Jing and Aunt Cui accepted each other's things with a smile and finally stopped "playing Tai Chi" that she silently breathed a sigh of relief.

Because Lin Xi and the others were very polite and well-mannered, Aunt Cui liked them even more.

After cutting the melon and serving it, he sat aside and chatted with them.

Xu Jing and the others were curious, so they were even more surprised that Aunt Cui took the initiative to sit down and chat with them.

After briefly chatting about each other's situation, Xu Jing and the others finally couldn't help but ask about Aunt Cui.

"Aunt Cui, when we were having dinner at the restaurant in town just now, the proprietress told me that your village seems to be holding a sacrifice ceremony in a few days. What exactly is this sacrifice for? Can we learn more about it?"

When Aunt Cui heard the word "sacrifice", her expression changed immediately after she was smiling.

Aunt Cui's expression became embarrassed, as if she had touched upon some unspeakable topic.

However, because Xu Jing and the others were very kind in their inquiries, and she knew that they were young and might be curious about many things, Aunt Cui didn't get angry.

She just said it to them seriously.

"There is a sacrifice, but it's an activity in our village. It's not convenient for outsiders to know about it, and it's not something fun, so you guys should just ignore it."

Hearing that Aunt Cui didn't want to elaborate, Xu Jing and the others were curious but tactful enough not to ask any more questions.

After resting for a while, it was getting late, so Aunt Cui went to make dinner. After eating, everyone washed up and went to bed.

Although it was an unfamiliar place, everyone slept quite well because the journey was tiring and not relaxing.

Early the next morning, after having breakfast at Aunt Cui's house again, Lin Xi and the others went to the place where they met Professor Huang and the others yesterday.

On the way there, we passed the river again.

Lin Xi subconsciously glanced into the river, then paused slightly.

In just one night, the river underwent earth-shaking changes.

The river water is still clear, but a faint gray mist is floating in the river!
