Chapter 666 Is the one haunting you a female ghost? (1/2)

The house wasn't far from the open space where they stored their supplies; in fact, its location was considered quite good by the standards of the village.

The house in front of us looks old and has been around for many years.

But upon closer inspection, it became clear that the room was actually quite large.

It's not hard to see that, several decades ago, this family's conditions weren't actually that bad.

However, as for why the old man in the house remained unmarried his whole life, that was his private matter, and Meng Yuxin had no intention of asking him.

After carrying her things to the door, she put them down and then knocked on the door.

Actually, the door was ajar; it wasn't completely closed.

However, out of politeness, Meng Yuxin knocked twice on the door and called out to the elderly person inside.

Several seconds later, an old voice came from behind the door.

"Young lady, are you here to deliver something to me?"

Upon hearing this, Meng Yuxin knew that the old man must have seen what was happening outside through the crack in the door, so she nodded truthfully.

"Yes, sir, we are from a charity organization. We've come to deliver some daily necessities to you in the hopes that they can help you."

Upon hearing this, the elderly person inside the house immediately spoke with emotion.

"You're all such good people! I thank you all here..."

Meng Yuxin quickly and modestly said that she was fine.

After exchanging a few words, the door in front of us finally opened slowly.

With the help of the large lamp they had set up outside, Meng Yuxin finally saw the entire interior of the house.

At first glance, all you can see is the old man's full head of white hair and his face covered with wrinkles; he looks to be at least seventy years old.

Although he is old, you can still see that he has regular features, and he was probably quite handsome when he was young, just as the villager said.

Meng Yuxin looked at the old man's clothes again and found that it was already the dead of winter, and he was only wearing a cotton coat that wasn't particularly thick.

The temperature in the mountains is much lower than in the city, and at night it is close to zero degrees Celsius.

If older people don't wear thick clothes, how can they withstand the cold winter?

So Meng Yuxin quickly rummaged through the supplies and found a thick down jacket.

These down jackets were specially selected by them this time; they are durable, warm, and perfect for wearing while working in the village.

After taking out the down jacket, Meng Yuxin immediately handed it to the old man in front of her and told him to put it on.

The old man thanked her again, then took the money with trembling hands.

Seeing this, Meng Yuxin couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness. She was about to reach out to help him when she saw the old man's expression change drastically, so she quickly took a few steps back.

It was as if her hands were some kind of monstrous beast.

Meng Yuxin was completely bewildered by this turn of events.

She just noticed that the old man's hands were shaking so badly, and since the clothes were long and thick, it might be inconvenient for him to put them on by himself. She just thought she could help him put on the sleeves. She had absolutely no other intentions.

The old man seemed to realize that his dodging action had caused Meng Yuxin to misunderstand, and his expression changed as he explained with a wry smile.

"Kind person, I'm not looking down on you, I'm just afraid of hurting you."

"I'm haunted by ghosts. Anyone who comes into contact with me will be haunted. I'm afraid of implicating you..."

The old man spoke with great sincerity, and his eyes clearly showed fear as he said it.

Meng Yuxin frowned as she listened.

Putting aside whether there are ghosts nearby, even if there are, these ghosts are far too domineering and vicious.

The old man in front of us already looks pitiful enough, why do we have to bully him in this way?

Just as Meng Yuxin was wondering, the old man inside the house spoke again.

"Kind person, you can leave these things at the door, I'll move them in myself tomorrow."

Meng Yuxin brought quite a lot of things.

Besides the down jacket she had already given to the elderly, there were still some daily necessities, such as rice, flour, and cooking oil, which she hadn't taken yet.

When the time comes, the whole set will be ready, and even a young woman like her will need to make two trips to move it in.

If you ask this thin, bony old man to move all these things, you might break his back.

So Meng Yuxin certainly couldn't let him move it himself, and said that since there was only a threshold between them, she would help him move it in.

But the old man seemed to still remember the so-called "curse" and kept refusing.

Meng Yuxin didn't take it seriously.

If the ghost is really as the old man said, and contact with him will cause harm, then she has already talked to the old man so much, and this debt has probably already been settled. Helping the old man move his things inside won't make a difference.

Ignoring the old man's advice, Meng Yuxin carried the things on the ground into his house.

The interior is no different from most rural houses, except that there is very little furniture, making it seem particularly empty and lifeless, and it looks very desolate.

Meng Yuxin moved the things twice, finally getting them into the old man's house and arranging them in their proper places.

While she was arranging the things, the old man paced anxiously around her, muttering something like, "Please, if the ghosts want to cause trouble, let them cause trouble for him, and don't go after Meng Yuxin."

Meng Yuxin really wanted to tell the other person not to be so nervous, since she was perfectly fine now.

However, seeing how tense the old woman was, Meng Yuxin worried that if she continued to stay there, the old woman might faint from fright.

She didn't dare stay any longer. After putting her things away, she quickly said goodbye to the old man and told him to call them if he needed anything.

After saying that, she left the old man's house.

After leaving, Meng Yuxin returned to the group and began distributing supplies to the remaining villagers, then visiting and showing concern for them.

They were busy until nine or ten o'clock at night, when it was time for the villagers to rest, and Meng Yuxin and the other volunteers finally stopped.

The group quickly boiled water to make instant noodles, and after a quick meal, they prepared to go into their tents to rest.

Meng Yuxin's identity was indeed extraordinary, and she was not used to sleeping with others, so she was alone in her tent.

After a busy day of driving, climbing mountains, and distributing supplies for so long in the evening, she was exhausted.

So she fell asleep not long after entering the tent.

The other volunteers were similar; after lying down, the surrounding chatter disappeared and was replaced by a chorus of snores.

Generally speaking, when Meng Yuxin is too tired during the day, she sleeps very well at night.

That night, for some reason, although she fell asleep quickly, she started having a dream not long after falling asleep, and it was a strange dream.

In her dream, she was still sleeping in the tent, but as she slept, a figure suddenly appeared in the tent.

The figure's face was obscured, as if shrouded in mist, but its shape and hairstyle revealed it to be female.

After the man appeared in the tent, he stood there, looking down at Meng Yuxin, and then said to her indifferently.

"Don't meddle in other people's business. If you dare to help him, I won't let you get away with it!"
