Chapter 23 The Ghostly Doctor Has Been Found

"Heaven and earth bear witness! With a relationship like yours, where we've been through thick and thin together, would I ever do anything to betray you? You're kidding! Let me tell you, even if someone held a gun to my head and forced me to betray you, I wouldn't agree!" Xiao Yifeng quickly declared his resolve!

"When did I ever say that doing something wrong is the same as betraying me?" Li Zhanting questioned in a deep voice.

Even though it was over the phone, Xiao Yifeng could already feel the immense pressure from the other person. He chuckled, "Oh dear! I... I was just... scared by you! Lao Li, the most important thing in being friends is mutual trust..."

Listening to his rambling, Tang-like nagging, Li Zhanting decisively hung up the phone.

The next day

After preparing breakfast for Gu Jingxing, Gu Momo drove to the Central Hospital in the capital.

Last night, she stayed up all night to read the test results sent by the hospital. The surgery was indeed very difficult, but not entirely impossible.

Using her professional knowledge, she devised a surgical plan and had Li Mo send it to the hospital director to prepare.

However, before that, she still wanted to go to the ward and, as Gu Momo, see Uncle Fu.

Uncle Fu works in the neurosurgery department, and Gu Momo took the elevator to the 16th floor of the inpatient department.

Just as she found Uncle Fu's ward number according to the room number, a woman suddenly appeared in the room.

The woman was wearing a fuchsia skirt. She wasn't fat, but because of her age, she had some extra flesh around her waist. Judging from her back, she looked to be around forty.

Just as Gu Momo was guessing who it was, the person turned around, talking on the phone as they walked towards her.

That was an enemy she would never forget in her life—Dong Qingrun.

She is Gu Shanshan's biological mother, and also the childhood sweetheart whom Gu Zhenting married immediately after divorcing his own mother.

If she hadn't interfered in her mother's marriage with Gu Zhenting, perhaps things wouldn't have turned out this way.

Seeing her approach, Gu Momo quickly hid in the corner.

Unaware of her presence, Dong Qingrun walked past her while listening to the phone call.

"Oh, don't worry, that old guy is on his deathbed. He's not even thinking straight anymore. The hospital already issued a critical condition notice, so it'll be over in the next couple of days. Once the hospital's quiet tonight, I'll secretly take out the transfer contract I've prepared and have that old bastard sign it! Humph! That bitch, she's been dead for so many years, and she's still thinking about leaving that little bit of money to her daughter? She's dreaming!"

In the corner, Gu Momo clenched her teeth, her pink fingernails turning white from gripping them so tightly.

The "bitch" Dong Qingrun mentioned was her biological mother.

If it weren't for the fact that Uncle Fu's surgery was about to begin, and she had to rush over to see him before heading to the operating room to prepare, she would never have swallowed her anger.

But Gu Momo will remember this debt!

Soon, Gu Momo met Uncle Fu in the ward.

In the ward, Uncle Fu lay quietly on the hospital bed. His silver-white hair had grown to his temples, his skin was sallow, his eyes were sunken, and there were some age spots around his prominent cheekbones.

In Gu Momo's memory, Uncle Fu was always in a radiant state, and even at the age of sixty, he still maintained good habits.

With his slicked-back silver hair, upright posture, and black suit, he managed every detail of the large villa, down to the smallest hair, with remarkable efficiency, giving him an air of vigorous old age.

Five years have passed, and with the added torment of illness, he is now thin and haggard, his whole body shrunken.

The glory days are gone forever.

Looking at Uncle Fu like this, Gu Momo's heart inexplicably clenched.

She tiptoed to the bedside, took his sallow, withered hand, and held it in her palm.

Because of years of doing rough work, Uncle Fu's hands are covered in calluses, and each of his fingers can no longer be straightened. They feel as rough as tree bark.

"Uncle Fu, I'm sorry I'm late, and I've made you suffer so much."

Uncle Fu, who was in a coma, seemed to feel her touch. His fingertips twitched twice, and he gently grasped her fingers.

Gu Momo looked up in surprise and saw that Uncle Fu's eyes were tightly closed, as if tears were flowing out.

"Uncle Fu, is there something you want to say to me?" Gu Momo stood up, about to bend down to listen, when suddenly, a sharp, accusing voice rang out from the doorway, "Gu Momo! What are you doing here? What do you intend to do to Uncle Fu?"

Upon hearing this, Gu Momo turned her head and saw Dong Qingrun carrying a woman's handbag, hurrying in.

"Do I need to explain where I am to you?" Gu Momo lazily raised her eyelids, her deep eyes slightly upturned at the corners. When she habitually squinted, it gave people a strange sense of oppression.
