Chapter 220 Good Luck
The fourth brother's words drew the attention of the other three pairs of eyes to the eldest brother.
The old man was furious and glared at the fourth brother.
He quickly explained, "Mother, don't listen to Lao Si's nonsense. I just came to check on things and offer some help. Chen Feng won't dare to gossip now, so don't worry."
Song Chunxue walked out calmly, "Anyway, I won't interfere in your affairs. If you really feel that I'm being unfair to you and are unwilling to take care of the yard for me, I'll find someone else to do it."
“My money is mine. The money for Sanwa’s schooling came from selling sheep. After buying this yard, I don’t have much left. I didn’t give any money to the fourth brother and Sanwa. You don’t need to feel like you’ve lost out.”
"Fourth brother, don't think that just because I bought a yard you can lie around and wait for food. You either go to school, farm, or go out and make your way in the world. In short, you can't be idle, understand?"
The fourth brother nodded repeatedly, patting Song Chunxue's arm like a lackey.
“Mother is right, I understand. I don’t want to study anymore. We’re all from the county now, we can find a way to make a living anywhere,” the fourth son said with a smile. “As long as Mother doesn’t kick me out, that’s fine.”
Song Chunxue understood that he was talking to the eldest brother, so she put her purse in her pocket and said nothing more.
She had already stuffed the bundle containing the silver and the house deed into the broken jar in the kitchen.
The rest are still at her hometown; she's not in a hurry to touch them.
The mother and her three children went to a noodle shop on the street and ordered four bowls of soup noodles.
The eldest son felt a bit resentful. They had worked so hard today, shouldn't their mother give each of them a bowl of noodles with minced meat sauce?
But since the third child and the fourth child had no objections, he had no choice but to put up with it.
Just as the noodles were served, they heard a slightly familiar voice.
"Sister-in-law, have you moved in?"
Song Chunxue looked up, "Lord Xie?"
She quickly stood up. "What a coincidence, Lord Xie is here to eat noodles too."
Xie Zheng was followed by two armed attendants, who sat down at the same table.
"Yes, I went to the township to take care of something today and just got back." Xie Zheng noticed a small grain stalk in her hair and pointed at it. "You guys just arrived in the county too, right?"
Sanwa followed her gaze and took something from Song Chunxue's hair.
"Yes, sir, please sit down." Song Chunxue originally didn't want to trouble him, but since she had run into him, she couldn't help but speak up. "Sanwa should be able to continue his studies now. The school should have already started, right? The snow delayed us for a few days, and we didn't know who to ask for help."
Xie Zheng instantly understood, raised his arm and straightened his wide sleeves, "That's simple, just let Chunshu take the three children there."
Song Chunxue asked in surprise, "Won't this trouble the adults? Won't it leave them indebted?"
"Sister-in-law, don't worry about these things for now. Your studies are the most important thing, and we can't let them be delayed."
Seeing his mother and Lord Xie so familiar with each other, the eldest son was filled with many thoughts.
He noticed that the fabric of Lord Xie's clothes was much better than the last time he saw them.
It seems he wasn't all that honest and upright.
Song Chunxue was unaware of her boss's thoughts. She ate and chatted with Lord Xie, and soon finished her meal.
Liu Chunshu happened to run over to find Lord Xie, who instructed him to take Sanwa to the official school.
Sanwa straightened his appearance, turned to Xie Zheng, bowed deeply, and said, "Thank you, sir."
Xie Zheng waved his hand, "No need for formalities, go ahead."
Watching Sanwa and Chunshu's figures gradually disappear into the distance, Song Chunxue was at a loss for what to do.
"Does Your Excellency have other matters to attend to? Would you like to come to my house for a while?" Song Chunxue politely declined. "However, we just arrived, and the yard is quite messy. We haven't had time to tidy it up yet."
"It's alright, I might as well go and take a look."
"..." She hadn't expected Lord Xie to be so easygoing.
Just then, she noticed someone watching her from a short distance away.
"Sister Song?"
Upon closer inspection, Song Chunxue realized it was Yao Man.
"I just heard your voice, and I thought I misheard. I didn't expect it to really be you," Yao Man couldn't help but look at Xie Zheng beside her. When she saw the official boots on his feet, she exclaimed in surprise, "This is, Lord Xie?"
“Yes,” Song Chunxue looked at Xie Zheng, “This is Yao Man. Her family runs a business right next to the Xifeng Inn. I’ll have another friend here now.”
Xie Zheng didn't understand why she was explaining in such detail, but he still bowed and greeted her, "I am Xie Zheng."
Yao Man was both surprised and delighted. "Greetings, Lord Xie."
Unexpectedly, she was able to see Lord Xie Zheng up close, and Yao Man's eyes were full of smiles.
She grabbed Song Chunxue's arm, "Have you moved your things over? Are you staying here and not leaving?"
"Just moved here, want to come and see my house?" Song Chunxue smiled and led the way. "We still have to go back. We've only moved less than halfway today, and we haven't even planted the land yet."
Yao Man nodded, "You must have a lot of stuff at home. Do you need any help? I have two carriages that are not used. I'm going to sell one of them in a few days. You can sell it when you're done using it."
A horse-drawn carriage is better for carrying small items, as you don't have to worry about losing control of the rope.
"Really?" Song Chunxue laughed. "Then I won't stand on ceremony."
"Don't be so polite with me. I haven't thanked you yet. You're a real lifesaver, relieving my immediate crisis. I was just thinking of thanking you properly and discussing writing a contract. You said you wanted to partner up, so you can't go back on your word. It's rare to meet such a bold woman like you. I can't let you get away."
Song Chunxue smiled and nodded, "Don't worry, with your abilities, it would be a loss for me to run away."
The fourth brother followed Xie Zheng and couldn't help but sized him up.
The eldest son followed behind, staring at his black official boots, filled with surprise and disbelief at how his mother had made so many friends.
My mother is just a farming woman. If the meeting between Lord Xie and the Taoist priest was a coincidence, then how did she get to know this woman who does business in the county?
After the family separated, his mother underwent a dramatic change behind his back.
So many unbelievable things happened to a woman like his mother that he couldn't help but wonder if he had never truly understood her in the previous twenty years.
Suddenly, he remembered that at this time last year, Chen Feng was pregnant, and his mother was still as good to him as before.
At that time, he felt that he was the person with the highest status in the Jiang family, and that Sanwa was the most useless one in the family.
In just one year, it seemed as if the whole world had turned upside down.
He was the least favored child in the Jiang family, and the one his mother hated the most.
Why is God playing such a cruel trick on him?
As they spoke, they entered the large fortress again.
"Wow, Sister Song, you're amazing! I never expected that you would buy the biggest and best fortress in the county, the courtyard that everyone wanted to live in?"
Yao Man was astonished. "This fort has been empty for a long time. I heard that many people wanted to buy it, but they wouldn't sell. Why are you suddenly willing to sell it to me?"
Song Chunxue was puzzled. "Is that so? I've never heard of it."
"How much silver did you pay for it?"
"Thirty taels."
Yao Man paused, "What, thirty taels?"
Song Chunxue was completely bewildered by her startled appearance.
Is it too much or too little?
"Of course it's too little!"
Yao Man walked into the courtyard and pointed to the surrounding houses. "Look, such beautiful houses. The roof tiles were just replaced a few years ago. The courtyard was renovated three years ago. At that time, all fifty-two families refused to sell."
Song Chunxue said gently, "Maybe I'm just lucky."
Xie Zheng explained, "They happened to need money urgently at the time, so my sister-in-law bought it."
