Chapter 36 My Daughter is Back

Chapter 36 My Daughter is Back

Upon hearing her boss's words, Song Chunxue cast a sharp glance, carrying an unprecedented pressure.

Jiang Yeming was terrified; he had never seen his mother's eyes look so terrifying.

He swallowed hard, but he was still somewhat unconvinced.

Why should the third child, at such a young age, have to start learning to manage a household?

He had always been his mother's favorite, but now that he had started his own family, his mother suddenly distanced herself from him and even maliciously targeted him.

What exactly did he do wrong?

He was the eldest son in the family, the most prestigious among them, and the one whose words carried the most weight.

But after separating from him, his mother showered such a huge benefit upon the third child.

But his mother's threatening gaze fell on him, the warning quite obvious.

Without saying a word, she took Sanwa home.

For the first time, Jiang Yeming experienced feelings of loss and panic. His mother's gaze made him realize that she was very disappointed in him.

After the family separated, Song Chunxue really fell ill. She had no strength at all and lay listlessly on the kang (a heated brick bed).

She had no interest in tending to the crops in the field or the things she wanted to harvest and sell for money.

After taking the medicine, she buried her head in her hands and fell asleep.

I slept from morning until afternoon without eating or drinking.

That evening, Sanwa returned from herding sheep, and the sound of him chopping potatoes in the kitchen woke her up.

The sky outside was dark, but you could vaguely see a hint of blue in the southern sky.

The smell of burning firewood wafted into her nose, refreshing and delightful.

Song Chunxue got off the ground, put on her clothes, and went to the kitchen, where she saw Sanwa sitting in the smoke-filled kitchen, tending the fire.

The rice was almost cooked; he had already set out the bowls and chopsticks, just waiting for the noodles to be ready.

"What are we having for dinner tonight? When did you get back?"

Sanwa turned his head and saw that Song Chunxue had gotten up and her voice was normal. He couldn't help but smile and get up to lift the pot lid.

"Today we're having white noodles. I chopped some wild vegetables and I'm going to add two eggs."

As he spoke, he looked down and found two eggs in the cupboard, then tapped them twice on the edge of the large iron pot.

Song Chunxue stood aside watching, her heart filled with mixed emotions.

She didn't want to think about her past life at all, about how she and her third son spent their time at home after dividing the land with the eldest son.

At that time, the land was allocated early, and the eldest couple had not yet moved into the thatched cave dwelling; they lived in the north room.

Sanwa lived in the house on the south side. She left early and returned late. After herding sheep, she still had to do this and that, but what she was thinking about was her eldest son.

She makes egg drop soup for her eldest son and his wife, and occasionally cooks an egg for her youngest son.

She thought Sanwa was useless and knew he couldn't leave her, so she didn't pay much attention to him...

"Clang."

Sanwa accidentally dropped an eggshell into the pot and nervously looked at Song Chunxue.

Song Chunxue walked over, took a pair of chopsticks, and scooped the eggshells out of the pot. "It's okay, just make another one."

She would never have spoken to Sanwa so patiently before; she would instinctively yell at him, "How can you be so stupid!"

Whenever she recalls the past, her guilt towards Sanwa deepens.

If she hadn't had a second chance, she wouldn't have known how bad and biased she was in Sanwa's eyes as a mother.

She couldn't even imagine how Sanwa had survived the past ten years or so.

His taciturn nature was created by her repeated loud reprimands and her repeated ignoring of him.

Thinking about this made her heart ache as if it had been chewed by a dog; she felt both pain and sadness.

“Mother, don’t be sad. My brother is so calculating now, he’ll regret it sooner or later. In a few years, when he has children, he’ll understand how sad you are.”

When Sanwa saw Song Chunxue wiping away her tears, he thought she was upset because her eldest brother was determined to divide the land and was afraid to ask for money, so he didn't dare to ask her about her illness. He comforted her.

"I'm fine, it's not because of the boss," Song Chunxue wiped away her tears with her sleeve and tried to remain calm. "Have you ever blamed me these past few years for always favoring the boss and making you do all the work? Aren't you angry?"

Sanwa was stunned, staring blankly at Song Chunxue for a moment.

Then, he quickly looked down at the pot.

His eyes instantly welled up with tears, but they were obscured by the steam from the pot.

"No, it was me who wanted to herd sheep. I wasn't good at studying, and I couldn't sit still on the bench in the school." He chuckled twice. "I'm not angry. They were originally more promising than me. It's just that I'm not capable enough."

The tears that had just stopped welled up again. Song Chunxue could no longer control her emotions and turned to run out of the yard.

Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Jiang Yeming eating at the entrance of the thatched kiln, and quickly ran towards the donkey pen.

Two donkeys were grazing in the pen, and she squatted in front of the pen, sobbing uncontrollably.

One of the donkeys, hearing the commotion, became curious and ran over to the doorway. Standing in front of the door made of several poplar tree trunks, it sniffed Song Chunxue's head.

It seemed to have never seen anyone cry before. It poked its head out from behind the fence, put its arm around Song Chunxue's shoulder, and wanted to taste what her clothes tasted like.

As Song Chunxue cried, she thought to herself that this little donkey had indeed never seen a person cry before. It was a female donkey born to an old donkey and was only a little over a year old.

The female donkey was able to give birth, so they stayed.

If it were a male donkey, it would have been sold long ago and is now in some donkey meat restaurant being enjoyed by a wealthy person.

Thinking about this, she gradually calmed down.

I don't know if she was the only one who was reborn, or if everything around her started over.

If Sanwa knew how she treated him in his past life until his death, would he regret being born into the Jiang family and becoming her son?

Just then, soft footsteps sounded on the slope above the donkey pen.

It was quite dark when Song Chunxue suddenly heard a strange noise. Her scalp tingled, and she thought she had been possessed.

"mother?"

Is that you?

Song Chunxue was astonished. She stood up from the ground, holding onto the door frame, and looked at the young woman peeking out from the slope above the donkey pen in the dim light.

“Mother, it really is you. You’re crying again.” The young Jiang Hongying’s rambling voice rang out. “My father has been dead for nine years. Why are you still crying? He may have been reincarnated.”

In the years after her husband passed away, Song Chunxue would occasionally come to the donkey pen to cry.

The children all knew about it and didn't bother her.

Jiang Hongying, holding her toddler daughter's hand, returned to her parents' home and heard crying. She assumed that Song Chunxue was also crying because of her father.

"It's so late, why are you only arriving now?" Song Chunxue wiped her nose and walked out of the alley, looking at her still young daughter. "Why didn't you take a ride back?"

Jiang Hongying returned a little earlier than in her previous life, her belly was a little smaller, and the daughter she was holding was also a little smaller.

“It costs money. My husband didn’t give me much money in total, and I need to take a ride back. Besides, I didn’t encounter any carriages or horses coming here in the village, so I just walked back.”

Jiang Hongying handed her daughter to her, saying, "Mom, I'm pregnant again. The eldest is at home, and I won't have time to take care of the second one after the baby is born. Why don't you help me take care of her? I'll bring her back when she grows up."
